SOBATORI

SOBATORI is located about a 5-minute walk from Oizumi Station, inside Green Mall Yamamuro. At night, it operates as a yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) restaurant by reservation only, serving course meals.

The modern interior, designed with earth, natural wood, and stone, is filled with jazz and offers a refined, calm space where you can enjoy your meal.

You can enjoy charcoal grilled yakitori made with fresh jidori (premium local chicken) and meigara-dori (branded chicken) sourced from around Japan, carefully grilled over Tosa binchotan (high-grade charcoal from Tosa). The courses include not only chicken dishes but also seasonal vegetable skewers.

They also have a wide selection of natural wines, and pairing them with the food comes highly recommended.

The photo shows the “chochin kushi.” This is a prized skewer that threads together kinkan (immature egg yolk) and himo (oviduct), a rare cut with many fans.

It is said to be a luxurious skewer, praised for the rich taste of the yolk and its smooth, creamy texture.

むっちごはん

It looks simple, but when I actually tried it, it was more satisfying than I expected, and I could tell it was carefully made. The seasoning is mild overall and does not get in the way of the ingredients, so I could enjoy it comfortably to the last bite. It also goes naturally well with rice, and I finished it smoothly without getting tired of the flavor along the way.

The bite of the jidori (free-range chicken) is irresistible. You can enjoy a well-balanced selection of the best qualities of today’s chickens, such as Tankai Jidori, Date-dori, and Daisendori. I had never known a place in Toyama where you could eat the final chochin skewer (chicken ovary and yolk skewer). Pairing yakitori with nature sparkling and white wine makes it taste amazing.

Kurobe

Kurobe is a yakitori restaurant located inside the Manten Hotel, about a 1-minute walk from Sakurabashi Station. The interior has Sunken kotatsu seating at every table, with indirect lighting and decor creating a calm atmosphere.

It has six Private rooms in various sizes, where guests can relax and enjoy their meal at ease.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is cut into large pieces, which makes it especially satisfying to eat. It is said to be nicely browned on the outside and juicy on the inside.

One of the most popular items is the “negima (chicken and scallion skewer).” The juicy chicken and Creamy scallions go perfectly together, and the classic way to enjoy it is with tare (sweet soy sauce glaze).

The "oden (Japanese hot pot dishes)" made in a red miso style with aged Hatcho miso (dark soybean miso from Aichi) is also one of the specialties. It is said to have a rich, addictive taste packed with the good flavor of the ingredients.

The daikon radish and beef tendon, slowly simmered until very tender, are well known as a satisfying dish.

Another recommendation is the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). I recommend the Daisendori thigh and negima (chicken and scallion skewer). The pieces are cooked on the larger side, and I liked how plump the chicken was.

The atmosphere was nice, and the dining room was spacious and clean. Everything we ate was delicious. I especially recommend the cream cheese misozuke (cream cheese marinated in miso), nikomi (stew), and tsukune (seasoned chicken meatball). The tsukune had nankotsu (cartilage) and onions inside, giving it a crunchy texture, and I think it was the best tsukune I’ve ever had. The sashimi was also thick-cut and beautiful, just what you would expect from Toyama fish!

Yakitori Torifuji Toyama Ten

Yakitori Torifuji Toyama Ten is a yakitori restaurant located about a 4-minute walk from Shintomicho Station, right next to Kenchomae Koen (Prefectural Office Front Park).

The interior has an elegant atmosphere, with counter seats where you can watch the cooking, as well as Private room and box seats where you can relax, making it an easy place to use for many different occasions.

The yakitori uses Special Domestic jidori (free-range chicken), and its signature style is “ibushi-yaki (smoke-grilled over charcoal).” The cutting and skewering change depending on the part, showing care not just in texture but in presentation as well.

The “tsukune (chicken meatball skewer)” in the photo is said to pair a soft and airy interior with crisp breadcrumbs, making it popular for the contrast in textures.

They also have a full lineup of à la carte dishes made with chicken. The "Kodawari Tamago Oyako-don (carefully selected egg chicken and egg rice bowl)" is a popular menu item with many fans, and it is perfect To finish.

The rich egg coats the plump chicken, making it a satisfying taste full of Manzoku.

For yakitori, we ordered momo (thigh) and tsukune (chicken meatball). The yakitori, made with Domestic chicken, had plump, springy meat that was satisfying to eat and really good! The tsukune had a breadcrumb-like coating on top, which gave it a slightly unusual texture! It was fluffy and large, and this was satisfying to eat too.

They use brand chicken from Kagoshima. These are excellent yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), carefully grilled one by one over charcoal. Part of what makes charcoal grilling so tasty is the smoky flavor it adds, like the food is gently smoked. The doneness is "irresistible." The seseri (neck meat) is hearty and grilled juicy, and when you bite into it, it tastes unbelievably good. Happiness‼️Their carefully made tamago (egg) oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl) is recommended To finish.

Sakaba Shin

Sakaba Shin is a casual izakaya (Japanese pub) located about a 10-minute walk from Toyama Station, along Prefectural Route 208.

In addition to counter seats, it also offers table seating with a sense of privacy. It is said to be an easy place to drop by when you want to relax and enjoy a lively meal without feeling formal.

The standard favorite is the “sumibiyaki tori (charcoal grilled yakitori).” They hand skewer fresh chicken delivered daily and grill it directly over charcoal.

If you are not sure what to order, the assortment is a great choice. It is also nice that you can choose between salt and tare sauce to suit your taste.

You can also enjoy local specialties from Aizuwakamatsu in Fukushima Prefecture, the hometown of the owner. One of the most popular dishes is basashi (horse sashimi), shipped directly from Aizuwakamatsu.

Its appeal is the faint sweetness that comes from its freshness and the rich flavor that spreads with every bite. Those in the know enjoy it with the house special savory spicy miso sauce.

スガフキン

Their specialties seem to be basashi (horse sashimi) and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and both were very good. The other dishes were also solid and tasty. There are not many restaurants in the area, so in a way, it feels like a hidden gem.

Among the Aizu specialties, I heard they serve basashi (horse sashimi), which is not very common in Toyama, so I ordered the basashi. I also ordered standard izakaya dishes like yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), Kara-age, tempura, and grilled fish. Every dish was good. I do not usually eat basashi, but it was fresh, and the lean red meat had a light taste that made it very easy to eat.
