Photograph:erk.s859
Sapporo Kaisendon Senmonten Sushidonburi is a seafood Rice bowl specialty restaurant on the 1st floor of karaksa hotel Sapporo in the Tanukikoji Shopping Street.
The interior, made with natural materials, creates a cozy atmosphere.
In addition to table seating, there is also counter seating, so it is easy to stop by even on your own.

The toppings for the seafood Rice bowl are cut by skilled chefs every day and carefully arranged. They pay close attention not only to the flavor of the ingredients, but also to freshness and presentation.
Another big draw is the generous amount of seafood, piled on so fully that you can barely see the rice.
Photograph:ケガニ
They offer not only menus featuring a single topping such as "uni (sea urchin) Rice bowl" and "ikura (salmon roe) Rice bowl," but also seafood Rice bowls with an assortment of various toppings.
The photo shows the "Hokkaido Premium Rice bowl." It is an eye catching dish topped with botan ebi (spot prawn), ikura, chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and more.

・Ikura (salmon roe) Rice bowl
You can choose from small, medium, or large, and today I went with the medium ikura Rice bowl. Following uni, ikura has also shot up in price, but they piled it on so generously that it was hard to scoop it onto a spoon without spilling any. Even Hokkaido locals would approve, and it was a big Manzoku.

Located on the first floor of Clio Maruyama Koen Ichibankan, Kappo Tama Sasa is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy kyo-yasai (Kyoto vegetables) and carefully selected ingredients from Hokkaido in kyo-kaiseki (Kyoto-style traditional multicourse cuisine). Some people also stop by after visiting Hokkaido Jingu (Hokkaido Shrine).
The interior has a Japanese feel, with counter seating as well as Private room seating where you can dine while looking out at the garden.

The top pick is the "Tamazasa Meibutsu Zeitaku Rice bowl," a limited menu item with only 10 servings available. This seafood rice bowl is topped with several kinds of seafood such as scallops and white fish, along with nama-yuba (fresh tofu skin).
They recommend dissolving wasabi into the special egg yolk soy sauce, then pouring it over the toppings before eating.

Courses featuring ingredients unique to Hokkaido, such as uni (sea urchin), kegani (horsehair crab), and kinki (channel rockfish), also seem to be popular.
The owner, who trained in Japanese cuisine in Tokyo and Kyoto, serves carefully crafted dishes based on the traditional techniques of Kyo-ryori (Kyoto cuisine).

This time, I ordered the Casual course. Even so, it had solid portions from the Appetizers to the seafood Rice bowl, and it was also a good value. It was also nice to relax in a Private room.

The restaurant's seafood Rice bowl uses seasonal fresh fish, mainly from Hokkaido. They also use rice from Hokkaido for the vinegared rice.
The "Mashimashi Honmaguro Rice bowl" is a seafood Rice bowl piled high with lean tuna, and its bold, impressive look is a big hit.

They also offer a seafood Rice bowl set that comes with miso soup and pickles.
The "Takumi Set" seafood Rice bowl is topped with salmon, hamachi (young yellowtail), shrimp, and more. Every topping is fresh, and the texture of tobiko (flying fish roe) adds a nice accent.

The fresh maguro (tuna) and salmon sashimi are fairly large and have a nice bite. They taste really good with just a little soy sauce. The shrimp are also plump and big, so you can fully enjoy their flavor.

・Today's Seafood Rice bowl
On this day, it came with botan-ebi (spot prawns), hotate (scallops), salmon, lean tuna, ikura (salmon roe), and more, served over white rice. The toppings were thick cut and very fresh. I think it is quite good for a set seafood Rice bowl.

The “Hokkaido o Marugoto Tanno no Kiwami Course” is the most popular course, packed with the appeal of Hokkaido, and it comes with 2 hours of All you can drink.
The main dish is charcoal grilled Tokachi Wakaushi Strip loin. It is said to have no distinctive beefy flavor, with the umami tightly concentrated.

・Ikura (salmon roe) Rice bowl
The first thing brought out was the “Ikura Rice bowl,” piled so high it looked like it might spill out of the bowl. Each pearl glistened, and when you took a bite, it popped pleasantly and spread a rich, savory taste across your mouth. It was a dish that instantly made Hokkaido feel very real.

Yan Shu Ryori Kita no Ryoba is a place to eat in the Sapporo City Central Wholesale Market jogai shijo (outer market).
There are table, counter, and koagari (raised tatami seating) seats in total, so it can also accommodate large groups. If you choose one of the partitioned seats, you can enjoy your meal without worrying about people around you.

The "Jogai Ichiba Meshi Set" in the photo also comes recommended. This set includes a "Kaisen Omakase Rice bowl" with butter grilled scallops and miso soup.
The thick scallops have a nice bite, and the rich butter flavor is hard to resist, according to reviews.

・Kitamae Rice bowl(Large size)
Salmon, ikura (salmon roe), hotate (scallop), uni (sea urchin), and wakame (seaweed) are packed on top with barely any space between them, making this a very luxurious breakfast. They go well with the vinegared rice, and I finished it in no time.

On the last day of our school trip, we ate a kaisendon (seafood Rice bowl) at this restaurant! The seafood was very fresh, the portion was generous, and they served it very quickly! I was also able to get a Large size of rice, and I really enjoyed the meal. If I have a chance to go to Hokkaido again, I would like to visit again.

Dai Rokujusan Shichiyomaru is an izakaya located about a 9-minute walk from Odori Station on the Sapporo Municipal Subway Namboku Line. You can enjoy a wide range of seafood dishes along with Akkeshi Whisky.
The restaurant has TV monitors installed, so you can relax without getting bored while waiting for your food to arrive.
A popular menu item is the kaisen-don (seafood rice bowl), served in a funamori-style presentation.
The "Kaisen Nama Chirashi" is a popular dish topped with finely cut hon-maguro (bluefin tuna), salmon, and hotate (scallops). It also comes with cucumber and egg along with the seafood, making it both colorful and filling.
Photograph:Zaby
The oyster menu is also extensive. They use the branded oysters Maruemon, delivered every day from Akkeshi, the owner’s hometown.
The "raw oysters" are said to be plump and springy, with rich flavor and a Fresh Scent of the Ocean.

・Kaisen nama-chirashi (fresh seafood chirashi)
The negitoro (minced tuna with green onion) on top was quite tasty, and the other seafood also paired perfectly with the vinegared rice. It also came with hotate (scallop) and fatty cuts of maguro (tuna). Although the pieces were small, about dice-sized, the good flavors came through in layers.

• Tuna Rice bowl
It said the fresh hon-maguro (bluefin tuna) was from the Goto Islands in Nagasaki. The presentation was elaborate. There was a lot of rice, and by the time I ran out of tuna, I still had half left, so I finished it with wasabi soy sauce. The vinegared rice had a gentle flavor. The tuna was tasty too.

Hokkaido [Hakodate, Matsumae, Hiyama]: Restaurants Where You Can Enjoy Kaisendon (Seafood Rice bowls)
Photograph:ワヲ
Hakodate Dining Gaya, about a 2-minute walk from Hakodate Station on the JR Hakodate Main Line, is a restaurant that focuses on ingredients from Hokkaido.
The restaurant has tanks for live ika (squid), live fish, and live shellfish inside and outside. It has the kind of atmosphere you expect from an izakaya, along with the warmth of wood.
Photograph:ロミくん6305
They serve a wide variety of seafood Rice bowls, including tuna, squid, and salmon.
The photo shows the "Ika Sashi Gagome Rice bowl." The fresh, translucent squid goes very well with the crunchy gagome kombu kelp and freshly cooked, pleasantly chewy rice.
Photograph:ゆうき〆U5H
At lunchtime, they offer a set with your choice of seafood Rice bowl and ma-kombu kelp udon.
The ma-kombu kelp udon is made with Domestic wheat, ma-kombu kelp from Hakodate, and mozuku (Okinawan seaweed) from Okinawa, and lets you enjoy the rich flavor of kombu.

Restaurants in Hokkaido [Otaru, Niseko, and Shakotan] Where You Can Enjoy Kaisendon (seafood Rice bowl)
Photograph:飛んだ決まった
Donbei Otaru Unga Ten is a specialty restaurant for kaisen-don (seafood Rice bowls), located just steps from the Otaru Canal.
The wood-toned interior is decorated with Japanese touches such as kawara-yane (tile roofs), wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrellas), and furin (wind chimes). The retro space, reminiscent of a Showa-era townscape, offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

You can casually enjoy authentic seafood Rice bowls made with ingredients unique to Hokkaido. The owner personally goes to the market and carefully selects the delicious fresh fish of the day.
The "Otaru Asaichi Don (Otaru Morning Market Rice bowl)" comes with tuna, scallops, squid, and more, so you can enjoy different flavors and textures with every bite.

The "bara-chirashi Rice bowl" is a popular menu item that has been featured in many magazines and interviews. Not only does it taste great, but its colorful presentation is also well liked.
The Hokkaido rice used for the vinegared rice is said to have a good balance of aroma and sweetness, with a plump texture.
The kaisendon (seafood Rice bowl) we had was so lavish it lifted our spirits at just one look. It was piled high with salmon, amaebi (sweet shrimp), ikura (salmon roe), kani (crab), and more, all of it as fresh as could be. The melt-in-your-mouth toppings matched perfectly with the nicely balanced tang of the vinegared rice. You could really taste the fish's savory flavor in the miso soup too, showing the careful work and attention to detail throughout.
