Recommended yakitori restaurants in Hokkaido's Sapporo area

About a 5-minute walk from Susukino Station, Yakitori to Jizake SAKE Dori, an izakaya on the second floor of a building, is a popular spot where you can enjoy chicken dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients along with Japanese sake.
Reviews also say the calm space, with the warmth of wood, feels comfortable and inviting.
Photograph:ダラス 基本は肉
The restaurant brings in whole fresh chickens, so the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) menu includes even rare cuts. Another feature is the generous size of each skewer.
The owner trained at a famous yakitori restaurant and grills each skewer with expert control over the heat, earning praise for how good every one is. The plump and juicy "jo-momo (premium thigh)" is especially popular.
Photograph:☆Moon☆
They offer a wide range of chicken focused dishes. The signature item is the "Kunsei Potato Salad," made with house smoked chicken bacon.
They also serve items like tamagoyaki made with broth taken from chicken and overnight dried chicken. It also seems you can pair the food with Japanese sake from Hokkaido that goes well with chicken.
旅するぴーちゃん
Each yakitori skewer is quite filling, so it’s best to order while keeping your stomach space in mind! For this one, they grate yama-wasabi (Japanese horseradish) right in front of you and sprinkle it on, so the sharp wasabi kick is strong, but it’s the kind of taste you get hooked on. The tsukune is as big as a Hamburger Steak!!It’s really juicy and delicious,,♡

The otoshi (small appetizer) was stylish and really delicious too. Everything was just so good. The skewers in particular were finished with great care one by one, and they were the best yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) I’ve ever had. The Japanese sake lineup was also excellent, and the prices were reasonable, so the drinks kept flowing. Next time, I want to come by myself and try all 7 kinds of skewers.

This restaurant serves chicken dishes centered on yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made with jidori (local chicken) from Shiga Prefecture. It is located near Nishi-18-Chome Station in Sapporo.
The interior has a calm wa-modern (Japanese modern) style, and the compact space has about 14 seats. It is also a popular restaurant, so making a reservation in advance is recommended.

The jidori (local free range chicken) selected after comparing regional breeds from all over Japan is flown in daily. They say they break down each day’s portion that same morning.
Raised longer than regular chicken, jidori is known for being lower in fat. People say that when grilled as yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), it has a pleasantly firm bite and a touch of sweetness.
Photograph:ppcc77
The course where you can enjoy several recommended yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and the mizutaki (chicken hot pot) course, made with a Hot Pot prepared from soup slowly simmered with jidori (local chicken), are popular.
The oyako Rice bowl, made with jidori chicken and egg combined with dashi broth and served at the end of the yakitori course, is also well loved for its great taste.

The jidori (free-range chicken) dishes served in the calm atmosphere were all really good, with the quality of the ingredients brought out so well. What stood out most was the shiro reba (white liver). It was rich yet clean-tasting, with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that made me want to order another plate.

At this restaurant, you can enjoy rare cuts of Omi kuro-dori (Omi black chicken), and they also pay close attention to seasonings such as salt and Kyoto no kuro shichimi (Kyoto black seven-spice blend). Personally, I liked ka-fu (part near the skin), segimo (kidneys), shiro reba (white liver), and zucchini. Their very popular oyako Rice bowl is the soft and runny half cooked egg kind, with plenty of dashi broth. In addition to skewers, they also offer a wide range of a la carte dishes, so it seems like a great choice for many different occasions.

BIRD WATCHING is located along Miyako-dori, about a 3-minute walk from Susukino Station, where you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), wine, and Japanese sake.
The casual space has a warm wooden feel. The first floor has counter seating for standing drinks, while the second floor offers calm table seating, and it is well known for being comfortable.

The standard yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) here include "negima," made by skewering alternating pieces of Hokkaido chicken thigh and green onion, as well as skewers of grilled chicken breast eaten with a wasabi flavor.
Some yakitori are available with a choice of salt or tare sauce flavor, and for an extra option you can also switch up the taste with a finely chopped olive paste.
Photograph:tuku112
The original skewers called "French kushi" are popular for pairing well with wine. They also serve skewers such as grilled foie gras with truffle sauce.
In addition to red and white wine, they also offer rosé and orange wine, as well as Japanese sake from Hokkaido, so you can choose alcohol to match your meal.

I was looking for a place with good yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and wine, so I visited this restaurant. Every piece of the French-style yakitori, served with a different sauce depending on the meat, was delicious, and it paired perfectly with the wine. I’ve been into orange wine lately, so I was happy to see orange wine on the menu too.
Source:5460bd's review
I started with red wine, then had toukino, negima, and seseri (neck meat), all with tare sauce, and after that I tried the French-style chicken thigh skewer. It seemed to be seasoned with a cumin tomato sauce and topped with the kind of cheese used in Caesar salad, which gave it a different taste from yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) eaten with tare sauce or salt.

Yakitori, Wine, Japanese sake, Q is a restaurant where you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made mainly with chicken from Hokkaido, paired with wine and Japanese sake, and it is located in the basement of a building behind the Sapporo Clock Tower.
The stylish interior features a large glass table at the center. It seems like a perfect place to spend time chatting with people you are close to.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), made with young chicken raised in Nakasatsunai at the foot of the Hidaka Mountains in Hokkaido, is well known for its perfect balance of salt and grilling.
The chicken is said to be low in fat with a light taste, while still having a touch of sweetness. You can choose between salt or tare (sweet soy-based sauce) seasoning.
Photograph:麦わら帽のネズミ
The wine and Japanese sake menu is extensive, and the Japanese sake selection includes both standard labels and hidden labels that are not listed on the menu.
You can also order by the glass, and a tasting set that lets you compare 3 different kinds is also popular.

It was a very good yakitori restaurant. The atmosphere was nice too! I tried several kinds of yakitori, and the thigh and seseri (neck meat) were especially tasty. To finish, I had the chicken noodles, and the sweet-salty soup, the nice accent from myoga (Japanese ginger), and the savory aroma of the chicken were all really delicious!

Since they have a wide selection of Japanese sake, I ordered a tasting flight. They ask about your preferences and choose for you. They explain the characteristics of each one, which makes it really fun. As for the food, the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is of course delicious, and I thought the quality of the other dishes was also very high.

About a 1-minute walk from Susukino Station, Shoku to Sake Yuzumaru. is an izakaya on the 4th floor of a building where you can enjoy fresh seafood dishes and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) with Japanese sake.
It is a compact space with about 10 counter seats. Reviews also say that the chefs are close by, making it fun to enjoy your meal while chatting with the staff.

Among the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) slowly grilled over binchotan (high-grade charcoal), the "Shiretoko-dori Kushi" is especially popular. Made with jidori (local chicken) from Hokkaido, it is grilled until plump and juicy, and is said to taste great eaten simply with grated daikon radish and ponzu sauce.
You can also enjoy the yakitori in a simple way with salt or yuzu kosho (citrusy chili paste), which adds heat and aroma.
Photograph:柊山
Unusual dishes such as grilled lamb skewers and nama-ramu no tataki (lightly seared raw lamb) are also popular. The key is to enjoy them with yakumi (condiments) that add a fresh kick, such as yama-wasabi (Japanese horseradish).
They also offer a daily changing menu, so you can enjoy Hokkaido flavors that are unique to that time of year.
ヤダちゃん
I ordered beer, a highball, a small sashimi assortment, Shiretoko-dori (Shiretoko chicken) skewers, Shiretoko-dori skewers with grated daikon and ponzu sauce, and ginkgo nuts. The sashimi assortment was all fresh and tasty. The Shiretoko-dori skewers were grilled just right too. The Shiretoko-dori skewers with grated daikon and ponzu sauce were light and refreshing, so I recommend them. The best thing about this place might be that even if you come alone, you can still have a great time chatting with the staff?

Yakitori&wine Barsamico is a bar centered on yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) in the Susukino area, the entertainment district of Sapporo, Hokkaido. The red “BARSAMICO” lettering and the entrance shaped like the bottom of a wine barrel make it easy to spot.

Yakitori, in which various parts of chicken are skewered and grilled, can be enjoyed with either salt or a sweet tare (sauce) seasoning.
A popular choice is the “shiro reba (white liver).” This chicken liver is said to be tasty with no off notes, according to many reviews.

They also offer a full menu of dishes that pair well with wine, including grilled Hokkaido beef, grilled venison, and cheese.
You can order wine by the bottle or by the glass, and the cocktails served in cute glasses are also popular. Many people also seem to go for the courses that come with All you can drink.

Founded in 1980, Toriyaki Kurumaya Sapporo Ten is a yakitori restaurant with another location in Tokyo, and it is located on the basement floor of Restaurant Plaza Sapporo near Susukino Station.
Inside the calm Japanese style space, there is a large counter. You can watch the food being cooked over charcoal and see the large oden (Japanese one pot dish) Hot Pot up close.
Photograph:アメジスト210
The specialty "toriyaki (grilled chicken)" menu is said to be grilled over binchotan (high quality charcoal), which is known for its quality. There are several kinds, including liver, skin, and chicken wings.
A popular choice is the "tokusei tsukune (special chicken meatball)." It is cooked to a soft and moist finish, and it is said to taste even better when you mix in the egg yolk like a sauce.
Photograph:sangil
The "oden (Japanese stew)" is another specialty, made with broth from Hokkaido kombu kelp and simmered for a long time. They simmer a range of ingredients such as daikon radish, boiled eggs, and tofu.
The refined broth soaks into the ingredients, and when you take a bite, it almost seems to fill your mouth with broth. They also offer seasonal charcoal grilled dishes and a la carte items.
kymssk
The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is a bit pricey, but you really can’t go wrong with anything you order. They grill it over charcoal right in front of you. The asparagus was delicious. I always order the tokusei tsukune (special chicken meatball). For the oden (Japanese stew), I always make sure to get the isonori (seaweed) and daikon radish.

When it comes to yakitori and oden, this is the only place for me^ - ^Every piece of ingredient in the kyo-fu (Kyoto-style) oden with its delicious dashi broth is excellent, soaked through with flavor! The yakitori is also carefully grilled skewer by skewer, with just the right amount of salt and perfect doneness! My favorite is the Ladies' Course! At a reasonable price, this course comes with salad, oden, yakitori, and even dessert, and it's total Manzoku!

There are multiple reviews saying that the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), made with fresh chicken from Hokkaido, is cooked just right and seasoned with the perfect amount of salt.
Popular skewers such as reba (liver) and Heart from the heart seem to sell out fairly often on some days. It is a good idea to order them early.
In addition to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), they also have a full lineup of skewers with beef, pork, and vegetables. You can also enjoy seafood from Hokkaido as kushiyaki (grilled skewers).
It also seems like a good place to enjoy kushiyaki with drinks on a course that includes All you can drink, or to stop by for a light drink and a few small bites as your second or third stop of the night.

This izakaya, located in the basement of a building directly connected to Exit 1 of Odori Station, focuses on yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). It offers a wide range of dishes that let you enjoy flavors loved in Nagano Prefecture right here in Hokkaido.

The specialty here is "Oidare Yakitori." This is a style of yakitori unique to Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture, where the grilled skewers are dipped into a bottle of sauce before eating.
The sauce has a rich flavor with a strong garlic kick. It is said to be so tasty that drinks go down easy.
Photograph:ダラス 基本は肉
They also offer several brands of Japanese sake from Nagano Prefecture. You can compare 3 or 6 different kinds, making it easy to find the flavor you like.
The "Otona no Drink Bar" is a self service All you can drink option. It also seems fun that when you place your glass for draft beer and other drinks on the special machine, it automatically pours them for you.

Even though it had been a while since my last visit, they remembered my face, and the Nagano Prefecture yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and other dishes were as good as ever. The service is excellent, and I’m impressed every time that this is the kind of place that makes me want to come back. Today, I had 14 skewers. The self serve drink setup is great, with an excellent beer machine, and for Japanese sake they pour 3 kinds from the start so you can compare the flavors. If you like alcohol, this system is especially practical and really good. Once your drink is gone, you can pour another one right away and drink it immediately. The yakitori was delicious, the sanzoku-age (fried chicken) was also delicious, and I got to drink plenty, so I was very very Manzoku.

Recommended yakitori restaurants in the Tomakomai, Muroran, and Shizunai areas of Hokkaido
Photograph:chibatan
Yakitori Yoshidaya, a yakitori restaurant near Muroran Station, was founded in 1946 and has long been loved by locals.
Of course, you can enjoy it with drinks inside the restaurant, and many regulars also get yakitori for Takeout.
Photograph:cabbage3939
In the Muroran area, "yakitori" refers not to chicken but to skewers of pork and onion grilled on a stick.
The yakitori is brushed with an original tare (sauce) that has been added to since the restaurant first opened. The sauce is not too sweet, so it tastes light and easy, and people say you can keep eating skewer after skewer.
Photograph:tukinokouya
They offer plenty of menu items besides yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and the popular beef tendon stew features tendon simmered until tender.
They also have Special Japanese sake from around Japan. At the counter seats, you can watch the grill area and enjoy the lively atmosphere as well.
ギリギリ昭和世代のギリショーグルメ
This is Yoshidaya’s signature seasoning, passed down through generations, with a perfect balance that is neither too sweet nor too strong. It tastes especially good with Japanese karashi mustard. Even beyond the yakitori, the French fries are excellent, and the butter gives them a really nice flavor. They are served on a piping hot Teppan-yaki plate, but somehow they are still just as tasty even after they cool down.

The mother handles the grilling. The younger staff member takes care of everything else, including the dining floor. I ordered pork skewers, chicken skewers, each with tare sauce and salt, plus tsukune (chicken meatballs). I also got agedashi dofu (deep-fried tofu in broth). Beer and yakitori really do go well together. Here at Yoshidaya, the tare sauce is less sweet than at other Muroran yakitori shops. It is light enough that you can keep eating skewer after skewer.

Founded in 1971, this yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) restaurant carries on its flavors under the third-generation owner. It is located in Otowa-cho, Tomakomai City, the gateway to Hokkaido’s central area, home to New Chitose Airport and Tomakomai Port.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), made mainly with chicken from Hokkaido, is carefully skewered and prepared, then grilled over high quality binchotan (white charcoal) from Kochi Prefecture.

They also offer yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and a la carte dishes, along with course menus for Banquets. The courses let you enjoy yakitori and some of their popular dishes.
The Hot Pot dishes made with Special chicken broth are also well liked. One review said that after enjoying the vegetables and chicken, the ramen to finish the meal was especially good.

They skewer ingredients from Hokkaido and grill them over binchotan (high-grade charcoal). Their specialty is yakitori made with Hokkaido jidori (local chicken) called Shiretoko Dori.
They also serve grilled skewers with pork and lamb, and it seems clear that each one is cooked with care.

The menu also includes items like aburi gyu-sashi (lightly seared beef sashimi) made with beef from Hokkaido and niku-maki onigiri (grilled rice balls wrapped in meat), where rice is wrapped in meat and grilled.
The niku-zushi (meat sushi), which pairs horse sashimi or beef Strip loin with sushi rice, is also popular. They also have uniku-zushi (sea urchin and meat sushi), with sushi rice wrapped in meat and topped with uni (sea urchin).

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is really good! I especially loved the way they grilled the chicken skin it was exactly to my taste! Crispy on the outside and tender inside! The gyuniku no nama-zushi (fresh beef sushi) is also great! And it's reasonably priced too!

I visited for a drinking party. We used a Private room on the second floor, and it was comfortable because we could talk without worrying about the people around us. The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and meat dishes all paired well with the drinks, and even my boss was pleased, saying, "This is a good place." Next time, I’d like to come with my family too.

Hidaka, also called the roof of Hokkaido, is also known for the Hidaka Mountains and as a horse production region. In the northern part of Hidaka, in Shizunai, you’ll find the izakaya (Japanese pub) Kushiya.
The restaurant has casual counter seating, as well as Private rooms that are easy for families and groups to use.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is finished with an original blended salt. Even with the salt seasoning, it has a light sweetness that brings out the good flavor of the chicken and pork.
The skewers, carefully wrapped with pork around asparagus and cherry tomatoes, are also said to look beautiful.

The menu is varied, with dishes like fried pork from Hidaka (production region) and pizza. They even have a dessert of toast topped with ice cream.
The drink menu is also extensive, and it seems there are many days when locals hold Banquets with All you can drink included.

Draft beer, highball, and lemon sour! So good! The kushiyaki (grilled skewers) and kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers) were great too! I had to head home on a trip that takes more than an hour, so I ate and drank really quickly, but my takeaway was that I wish I could have stayed and relaxed longer.

Recommended yakitori restaurants in Hokkaido's Otaru and Niseko area
Photograph:めたぼ
Otaru is located on the west coast of Hokkaido. Sankuro is about a 12-minute walk from Minami-Otaru Station. Located along Hanazono Green-dori in a residential neighborhood, this yakitori restaurant is loved by locals.
Inside, there is a compact U-shaped counter surrounding the chef, creating a small and cozy space.
Starting with chicken grilled on skewers, they also char-grill pork and vegetables over charcoal until nicely fragrant. The basic seasoning is salt and pepper, but you can also choose tare sauce.
Reviews say the grilling is spot on, and every yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) is tasty.
Photograph:カーキチ311
The tsukune (chicken meatballs) made with ground chicken are also popular. You can get tsukune topped with cheese, and they also serve unusual kushiyaki (grilled skewers), such as shrimp wrapped in ground meat.
The cheerful service from the owner gives the place a homey feel, so even first-time visitors can relax and enjoy their time.

I had often heard, “That place is really good,” so I had been curious about this restaurant. It is a little away from the bar district, but it is still within walking distance, so it is also a nice spot to visit before heading to the bar area. The owner was friendly, and the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) was very tasty too✨️I also recommend the grilled shiitake mushroom with cheese.

ヒラケンいくよね
I stopped by while traveling on a business trip to Sapporo. The taisho (head chef) and the staff were friendly, and we had a great time! Maybe it was the quality of the charcoal, but the grilled dishes were especially tasty, and the prices were reasonable, so the level of Manzoku was excellent. I would like to stop by again if I have the chance.

Kutchan is home to Niseko, a popular ski resort area. Binchotan Sumibi Yakitori Niseko Oden Kage is an izakaya centered on yakitori, about a 7-minute walk from Kutchan Station.
It is on the second floor of a building and seems to have a casual atmosphere. This is a restaurant loved by locals, and it is said to have many regulars.

You can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made by carefully skewering each piece of meat by hand and slowly grilling it over bincho-tan (high-grade charcoal). The menu focuses on chicken skewers, and also includes beef, pork, and vegetable skewers.
You can choose between salt seasoning and tare seasoning, with the house-made tare being especially popular. Every grilled skewer gets great reviews for its taste.

The oden, made by slowly simmering a broth from chicken, kombu kelp, and bonito, is also one of the specialties. The gentle flavor of the broth seems to soak well into ingredients such as daikon radish.
Locals seem to come here for courses with All you can drink, and there are several course options available.

I was shown to the counter seat and excitedly looked through the menu✨The otoshi (small appetizer) was the simmered stew in the photo! The broth had soaked in and it was insanely good, and as a konnyaku (yam cake) lover, I was happy there was plenty of it. With so many menu items to choose from, I went with my favorite skewers, Kara-age, and after a lot of back and forth, shime-saba (cured mackerel) for the sashimi! Then I spotted hirame (flounder) afterward and seriously regretted it lol

This time, we went with the JPY3800 All you can drink course, which came with Appetizers, oden (Japanese hot pot items), yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), zangi (Hokkaido-style fried chicken), udon (thick wheat noodles), and more. To be honest, I did not expect much before going, but they brought the drinks out right after we ordered, and for the price, the food was filling, tasted great, and left us very Manzoku.

Recommended yakitori restaurants in the Hakodate area of Hokkaido
Photograph:Kyoko007
Hako-tami Shokudo, about a 5-minute walk from the south exit of Hakodate Station, is known as a place where the seafood dishes and yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) are great.
The restaurant has a casual atmosphere, with simple chairs made from sake crates topped with cushions. There are also Private room seats on the second floor, and reviews say it is easy for groups and families to relax and spend time there.

This restaurant mainly serves seafood dishes, but it also offers meat dishes such as yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and grilled pork skewers. They grill them to a nice fragrant finish, and they are said to have just the right amount of salt.
Several courses also include kushiyaki (grilled skewers), so you can enjoy popular items such as seafood and yakitori.

The signature dish is the "osashimi assortment". It comes with an assortment of several kinds of sashimi made with fresh seafood, plus onigiri wrapped in fragrant iwanori (rock seaweed).
The "iki ika sashi"—live squid sashimi prepared while still alive—is also popular. It seems like a great way to enjoy a flavor unique to Hakodate, a city close to the sea.
コバモン39
I ordered seseri (neck meat) grilled with salt (skewers), chicken wings, and draft beer. Both the seseri and chicken wings had just the right amount of salt and were very good.

The assorted sashimi platter is also recommended. It is fresh and delicious. It is fun to be able to try all kinds of things that are hard to find outside Hokkaido, like sujiko (salmon roe sacs) and hokke fry (fried Atka mackerel).

Yakitori Oden no Juraku is a restaurant in Hakodate, a city also popular for its night views, that focuses on yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and oden (Japanese hot pot dishes).
The space feels like a casual taishu izakaya (pub). It is just right for lively food and drinks.
Photograph:CoCoco
They offer a wide variety of yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and each one is grilled over charcoal to lock in the good flavor of the chicken.
They also serve skewers made with lamb and pork, seasoned well with salt for a taste that pairs nicely with alcohol.

The oden, made by drawing dashi from kombu kelp from Hokkaido and slowly simmering it in a savory broth, is also popular. The thick cut daikon radish soaks up the broth, and the slender takenoko (bamboo shoots) seem to have a nice texture.
You can also enjoy seafood dishes unique to Hakodate, a city surrounded by the sea, so there is a wide range of dishes to try.

The squid sashimi included not only the usual tentacles but also the ear fins. The yakumi (condiments) was ginger. It had a nice sweetness and tasted great. Next, the yakitori arrived. Every skewer was nicely salted and perfect as a snack with drinks. The tail in particular was outstanding, with no off notes at all. My friend also ordered an extra Ichinokura Honjozo (Ichinokura regular brewed sake), a local sake, and another yakitori tail.

Overall, the food was good. I forgot to try the restaurant’s signature item, oden (Japanese hot pot dishes), though. I especially liked the natto bakudan (fermented soybean mix) and shirasu-ten (whitebait tempura). They go really well with a highball!
