Izakaya Hachinana is a popular izakaya where you can enjoy dishes made with plenty of seasonal ingredients that let you feel the richness of Noto. Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, it offers a calm atmosphere for a relaxed meal.

The restaurant uses not only seafood but also locally grown vegetables, making it a great choice for anyone who wants to fully enjoy the flavors of Kanazawa.

For those who want to fully enjoy a carefully selected lineup of local sake from the Hokuriku region, a course with Japanese sake pairings is recommended. You can enjoy Japanese sake that goes perfectly with seafood such as nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) and iwa-kaki (rock oysters).

When I visited the restaurant, the clean and bright interior left a strong impression, and I was able to enjoy the meal in comfort. Every dish was delicious, and I could feel the care put into both the presentation and seasoning. The staff were also polite, which made the experience comfortable. It is a place you can drop by casually, and one that makes you want to come back again.

A place you’ll want to visit at least once when you come to Kanazawa. Every dish is carefully made, and not only is it delicious, it also looks beautiful and really lifts your mood. The ikura (salmon roe) rice pops in your mouth and feels wonderfully luxurious. The kobako-gani (female snow crab) came topped with everything—meat, uchiko (immature eggs), and sotoko (outer eggs)—and really let us enjoy the season.

Shubo Shojo

Shubo Shojo, an izakaya on Seseragi-dori near Nagamachi Bukeyashiki Ato, known as Kanazawa’s little Kyoto, is a hugely popular spot that is often hard to book.

Kanazawa specialties are all here, and the seafood in particular is excellent. The sashimi assortment requires a reservation, and asking for it in advance was absolutely the right call!! And as for the Japanese sake I came for, I started with it chilled and enjoyed all the rest as Kanzake! If I had to pick one, the goroika (small whole squid) was the best match with Kanzake.

Hakata motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot), basashi (horse meat), Kyushu Jiman Kanazawa Ekimae Ten

Located a 5-minute walk from Kanazawa Station, the izakaya Hakata Motsu Nabe Baniku Kyushu Jiman Kanazawa Ekimae Ten serves Kyushu regional dishes and local sake, where you can enjoy authentic Kyushu flavors such as Hakata motsu-nabe (Hakata offal Hot Pot) and basashi (horse sashimi).

The restaurant is said to be filled with people of all ages, making it a great choice when you want to enjoy a lively drinking party.

The "Hakata motsu-nabe (Hakata offal Hot Pot)," which lets you choose your favorite flavor from 4 kinds of soup, is said to be so good you cannot stop eating, with the rich sweetness of the fat from the motsu and the deep umami of the soup coming together perfectly.

They also have a wide selection of Kyushu shochu that pairs perfectly with motsu-nabe, so you will want to take your time and enjoy it with a drink.

The "horse meat three-part assortment" is a popular menu item that lets you enjoy a well-balanced taste of different cuts of horse meat. Every cut is tender, with no off notes, and easy to eat.

They say that when you eat it with the ginger served on the side, the umami stands out even more.

This is a Kyushu cuisine restaurant, but since it is in Kanazawa, it had a nice feel with menu items such as Kyushu dishes made with local ingredients and local specialties arranged in a Kyushu style. The sashimi also included fresh fish sourced in Kanazawa, and there were different ways to enjoy it, such as eating it with Kyushu soy sauce, so I had a very tasty meal.

This is my favorite motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot) place, and it never misses. Also, the dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet) is exactly my kind of flavor, so I order it every single time lol

Katamachi Izakaya Magokoro Hokuriku seafood and Kanazawa oden (Kanazawa-style hotpot dishes)

Katamachi Izakaya Magokoro Hokuriku no Kaisen to Kanazawa Oden is a well regarded izakaya where you can spend a relaxed time in an upscale setting, enjoying seafood from Hokuriku and the local specialty Kanazawa oden (Kanazawa style oden).

Because they source ingredients based on the season, the menu can be completely different depending on when you visit. It makes you want to come back again and again in different seasons.

The hugely popular “Loaded Hokuriku no Sachi (bounty from Hokuriku) sashimi assortment” is a popular menu item that sashimi lovers should definitely try.

It comes piled high with seafood from the sea off Hokuriku, including striped jack, sea bream, chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and bonito, and everything is said to be fresh and excellent. It also seems like a great match for Japanese sake.

Perfect for the cold winter in Noto, kobako-gani (female snow crab). This is a limited menu item available only in November and December.

You can enjoy it in many ways, including sashimi, Hot Pot, and zosui (rice porridge), and the soup, rich with plenty of crab stock, is said to be irresistible.

I thought it would be just a regular izakaya (Japanese pub), but maybe because this is Kanazawa, the sashimi was really good! I could also try Kanazawa’s local specialty oden (Japanese hot pot dish), so it worked great as a sightseeing meal too, and I was very Manzoku. They also have many local sake from Ishikawa, so I think people who like drinking will be fully Manzoku as well.

Every dish was really delicious, and they had a wide range of Ishikawa specialties. The seafood in particular was great, and the hotaruika (firefly squid) tempura, carpaccio, and sashimi assortment were outstanding.

Robata to Oden Koronagirai Kanazawa Ekimae Ten

Robata to Oden Koronagirai Kanazawa Ekimae Ten is a sister restaurant of the hugely popular izakaya in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and opened in Kanazawa, where you can enjoy its signature oden (Japanese stew) along with carefully selected local sake from across Japan.

The interior has a calm feel while still being lively, and it is said to be the kind of place that is easy to drop into even on your own.

This restaurant’s signature item is Kanazawa oden (Kanazawa-style oden), served as the otoshi (small appetizer). Amazingly, refills are free, and some reviews even said they were fully Manzoku with just the otoshi.

The clear broth has a refined taste, and the daikon radish in particular is said to be excellent, with flavor soaked all the way to the center.

The oden (Japanese hot pot with assorted ingredients) is a given, and the grilled dishes are also said to be very good.

The photo shows the "5-skewer yakitori assortment," which is said to go perfectly with drinks. People say it lets you enjoy the nice smoky aroma of charcoal and the juicy meat at the same time, and that it tastes great.

I had heard in reviews that “the oden broth is just so good,” but it was even better than I imagined. The daikon radish gently wrapped in the clear broth was so tender it almost fell apart, and the egg and kurumafu (wheat gluten cake) had soaked up the flavor so well that it felt warming to the core. The nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) from the robatayaki (fireside grill) was fragrant, and its refined fat melted in the mouth, drawing out an involuntary happy sigh.

Overall, every dish was high quality, and honestly, it was Surprising how satisfying the food was for izakaya (Japanese pub) fare. The atmosphere was nice, and the staff were friendly and polite. The service also ran smoothly, and I found the place very comfortable.
