Asakusa ASA Tora

Located about a 1-minute walk from Asakusa Station, Asakusa ASA Tora is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy not only sushi but also sashimi assortments, tempura, seasonal seafood flavors, and Japanese sake.

The interior, with its white tones and wood-grain accents, has a homey feel. It looks like a place where you can relax and take your time.

A popular item at the restaurant is the "Bubble Maki." This luxurious roll is topped with plenty of uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe) over a chutoro roll.

The sweet richness of the fatty chutoro, the mellow taste of the uni, and the texture of the ikura are said to come together beautifully.

The aji fry (fried horse mackerel) is sometimes fried rare, so you can enjoy the crisp coating and moist fish inside.

They recommend eating it with a light squeeze of lemon, or with sauce or soy sauce to suit your taste.

I ordered the bubble maki and aji fry (fried horse mackerel), both of which had high ratings in reviews. They looked great, and every dish was satisfying. The fish zangi (Hokkaido-style fried fish) was an unexpected menu item, and it was light and tasty. I only had the fish dishes, but everything was good.

あまいもも明美

We had raw oysters, ika uni (squid with sea urchin), fried horse mackerel, soft roe tempura, and a sushi assortment. Each plate was an easy-to-eat portion, and being able to try a variety of dishes is part of the appeal. Made with ingredients a cut above, the seafood had umami on a whole different level.

Kiku Zushi

Kiku Zushi is a sushi restaurant that is perfect for stopping by during sightseeing, with a big view of Tokyo Skytree right in front along Kappabashi-dori (Kappabashi Street). This long-established restaurant has a history of more than 100 years since its founding.

The interior has a calm atmosphere, with counter seats and table seats, as well as zashiki (tatami seating) that is convenient for Banquet and group use.

The menu item in the photo is the "Jo Nigiri". It is a set that comes with nigiri sushi such as tuna and shrimp, along with miso soup. Every topping is fresh, and you can really feel the skill of the chef.

They also offer a full lunch lineup, including tempura and sashimi Gozen set meals, as well as chirashi-zushi (scattered sushi).

The restaurant’s popular menu item is the “Gokujo Yaki Anago Rice bowl.” The anago (conger eel) is grilled so the surface is crisp while the flesh stays tender, giving it a satisfying texture.

If you like anago, this is one menu item you should definitely try at least once.

On this day, I had lunch at Kappabashi's Kiku Zushi. The menu recommended Iwate-ken (Iwate Prefecture) nama-kaki (fresh oysters), so I decided to order them along with the jo-nigiri (premium nigiri set). The jo-nigiri included a delicious gunkan topped with Shizuoka-ken (Shizuoka Prefecture) nama-shirasu (fresh whitebait), and the fresh oysters were large and full of a rich, milky texture.

The top quality anago (conger eel) Rice bowl looked gorgeous, and the soft anago with its fragrant grilled surface was very tasty. The iwashi (sardine) tsumire Hot Pot also had a rich dashi flavor, and even I, who am not usually a fan of iwashi, enjoyed it.

Asakusa Sushiwaka Kaminarimon Ten

Asakusa Sushiwaka Kaminarimon Ten is a sushi restaurant located a 3-minute walk from Asakusa Station. The 1st floor has counter and table seating, while the 2nd floor is equipped with zashiki (tatami seating) that can also accommodate large groups. The interior is spacious.

Another nice point is that it stays open late, until 5 the next morning.

The photo shows the “Honjitsu Nakaoroshi Osusume 10-kan Nigiri (today’s wholesaler recommended 10-piece nigiri).” The selection of nigiri changes with the season.

Also, since you can order sushi from just 1 piece, it seems nice to add a few of your favorites.

One of this place's features is its full lineup of à la carte dishes, including kama shioyaki (salt-grilled collar), tempura, and sashimi.

They also offer a selection of Japanese sake, including seasonal limited nama-zake (unpasteurized sake) and chilled sake, so you can enjoy pairing drinks with the food.

食いしんぼ旅人

I visited Sushi Waka and had today’s recommended 10-piece nigiri set from the nakaochi wholesaler. I got to enjoy a wide range of items, including kinmedai (golden eye snapper), anago (conger eel), tamago (Japanese omelet), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and Sea Bream, and each piece had its own kind of deliciousness.

After watching a live show with an acquaintance at Asakusa Toyokan until past 9 p.m., we thought, "Now, let's grab a light meal somewhere!" and ended up at this sushi restaurant while looking around. It has both counter and table seating, so I think it is easy to drop in. Besides drinks, we ordered salad, today's 4-item sashimi assortment, agedashi dofu (fried tofu in broth), mehikari (greeneye fish), rolls, and more. Everything was delicious.

The restaurant's popular menu item is the "Ebi Kani Kassen." Snow crab shell is topped with akaebi (red shrimp), zuwai-gani (snow crab), and plenty of ikura (salmon roe), making for a great visual impact.

The hosomaki (thin sushi rolls) use kani miso (crab tomalley) with a hint of yuzu, and when you take a bite, a rich savory flavor spreads across your palate.

Mizuki

Founded 80 years ago, Mizuki is a popular restaurant for sushi and unagi (eel) dishes. It also has a convenient location, just a 1-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express.

In the calm Japanese-style atmosphere of the restaurant, you can enjoy Edomae-zushi (Tokyo-style sushi).

One thing you should definitely try at this restaurant is the "unagi-zushi (eel sushi)".

It is known for the harmony of plump grilled eel, the aroma of nori (seaweed), and sushi rice. The sauce used for the unagi-zushi and unaju (grilled eel over rice in a lacquered box) is said to be a secret sauce that has been added to since the restaurant first opened.

If you want to enjoy many kinds of sushi, the "nigiri set" is a great choice. The photo shows the "nigiri set Miyabi," which comes with 10 pieces of nigiri and 3 rolls. They also offer a wide range of set menus, so you can choose what suits your taste.

Along with the fresh toppings, take note of the sushi rice, which the owner makes with carefully selected rice gathered from various places.

自由人@全国グルメ食べ歩き

The unagi-zushi (eel sushi) offers a rich, luxurious taste, with plump steamed grilled eel coated in a refined sauce. The nigiri-zushi (hand-pressed sushi) is also delicious, with exceptionally fresh toppings and a great balance with the sushi rice. This is a great recommendation for anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine in a calm setting in Asakusa!

塩分だいすきちゃん

I visited while looking for a good street-level sushi restaurant. It had a very homey feel, and it seemed like the place was run by a family. It was the kind of sushi restaurant that makes you want to see the okami-san (proprietress) again. The menu was extensive, and the sushi sets were a great value too.

Sushi Edomaru Asakusa Honten

Sushi Edomaru Asakusa Honten is just a 30-second walk from Asakusa Station and also close to Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate).

Opened in 2023, this stylish restaurant offers a casual way to enjoy sushi. There are also table seats behind the counter, so it is a great fit for group visits.

The fish used for the sushi is said to be delivered directly from a Toyosu nakaoroshi (intermediate wholesaler). Some of it is apparently purchased fresh rather than pre-processed, so you can enjoy very fresh sushi.

In addition to standard nigiri, they also offer sushi made with seasonal fish at its best for the time of year.

One of the restaurant's popular menu items is aburi shime-saba (seared cured mackerel). They sear it right in front of you, so you can enjoy it while it's still hot.

It is cured with a pleasant level of acidity, and the rich, fatty flesh has a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is hard to resist.

I was able to enjoy incredibly delicious sushi, and I’m very Manzoku‼️The sushi and otsuma (small dishes to go with drinks) are all good every time, so I visit whenever I go to Asakusa! It’s also easy on the wallet, so the value is great lol The inside is also beautiful and has a clean feel!

The toppings were fresh overall, with pleasant texture and aroma the moment they hit your mouth, and I enjoyed them all the way to the end. It is not flashy, but you can feel the careful work in each piece, which leaves a real sense of Manzoku. The staff also spoke to us in a natural way, and I was able to enjoy the meal in comfort.

Magurobito Shinnakamise Ten

For more than 20 years in Asakusa, Magurobito has operated multiple restaurants, and this is its Honten, Magurobito Shinnakamise Ten. It is popular for offering a wide variety of sushi toppings at reasonable prices.

With counter and table seating, you can sit down and relax here.

The photo shows the “Yamakou Special Hon-maguro (bluefin tuna) Maguro Three-Cut Assortment”.

This is an irresistible menu item for tuna lovers, letting you compare and enjoy three kinds of tuna. The lean cut is light and clean, while the otoro and chutoro let you enjoy the rich taste of the fat.

Since you can order sushi one piece at a time, you can enjoy as much of your favorites as you like.

Along with standard items like aji (horse mackerel), iwashi (sardine), ika (squid), and tako (octopus), you can also enjoy nigiri made with seasonal fish.

haricoco

I had the lean tuna and negitoro (minced tuna with green onion). Magurobito's tuna is always delicious no matter when I eat it 〜◎ The unakyu (eel and cucumber roll) was also very tasty, with the sauce soaked in nicely! Even when you're short on time, you can have a quick and highly satisfying lunch here, and I was very Manzoku! I’d love to visit again.

おかか41525

If you want to enjoy sushi by the piece at a reasonable price in Asakusa, Magurobito is a strong option. The 3-piece tuna set with otoro (fatty tuna), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and akami (lean tuna) is properly delicious and costs under JPY1000, which is great value. Of course, the non-tuna items are tasty too, and the hirame engawa (flounder fin muscle) was also very good.

Not only was each piece of sushi topping delicious, but the bai-gai (whelk), which you do not often get a chance to eat, had large, meaty flesh with a nice bite and tasted great. The dishes made with dashi (Japanese soup stock) served in other courses also had a gentle flavor.

I thoroughly enjoyed edomae-zushi (Edo-style sushi)! The balance between the shari (sushi rice) and neta (toppings) was excellent, and the toppings were fresh and fantastic. The timing of each dish being served was spot on, and I was able to spend a special occasion with someone important to me.

Of course everything was delicious, but more than that, I had a really great time and was able to celebrate a wonderful birthday!
