The "kurozu oyster sauce (black vinegar oyster sauce)," enjoyed with oyster and wood ear mushroom toppings, is said to pair perfectly with the thick sauce and oysters.

The mara gyoza (numbing spicy dumplings) had a solid kick of numbing heat and spice, with an addictive savory taste that made the drinks go down easy. The zha cai (pickled mustard stem) we ordered as a palate cleanser had just the right amount of saltiness and paired perfectly. With Taiwan Beer, it instantly lifted the mood, making it just right for days when you want a quick drink. The atmosphere inside was cozy too, and one nice point was being able to relax and enjoy yourself without feeling formal.

Today I ordered cheese gyoza (dumplings) and fried rice. Look at this perfectly browned cheese gyoza. The crispy skirt is nice and crunchy. One bite, and hot meat juices and rich cheese spread through your mouth. Why do gyoza filling and cheese go so well together? ☺️

ハーマイオニー

First, the signature Teppan-yaki stick gyoza. This is gyoza at its best. Chewy wrappers filled with plenty of meat filling. When you pour soy sauce and vinegar directly onto the iron plate, the rich sizzling sound really gets your appetite going. Of course, I also ordered the shrimp boiled dumplings. These also had chewy wrappers and plump shrimp. You can enjoy them without feeling heavy.

The inside is unpretentious and easy to walk into, and it’s nice that it’s not weirdly too loud. Before I knew it, I kept ordering drinks and food the whole time. The pan-fried gyoza have super crisp wrappers, and juicy meat juices come out from inside. They’re exactly the kind of thing that goes great with beer. The fried gyoza are light and crispy, and I couldn’t stop reaching for those either.

A gyoza bar that is just right when you want a light drink in Shibuya. Overall, it is an izakaya (Japanese pub) that is cheap and casual, but the gyoza was better than expected. The gyoza is a great deal all around. Even though the price is low, the wrapper is really good, with a nice balance between the toasty flavor of the browned surface and the chewy texture. At this price point, the quality makes it well worth visiting for the gyoza alone.

Since this is a restaurant for gyoza (dumplings) and Beef Tongue, I recommend ordering both. The gyoza were a little different from regular gyoza, with ginger and renkon (lotus root) inside, and they were really tasty. The Beef Tongue was also thick cut, tender, and excellent!

Last time I had Hakata hitokuchi gyoza (bite-size Hakata dumplings), but this time I went with their specialty, Ootora gyoza. So good! The spices really come through, and they go great with drinks. The mara gyoza has pakuchi (cilantro) on top, which gives it an ethnic feel. The avocado sashimi and Kara-age are excellent too! And the grilled gyutan suji (beef tongue tendon) is as great as ever!

立ち食い蕎麦と赤提灯と純米酒

This is a gyoza izakaya in the drinking district on the north side of Mark City. The hitokuchi gyoza (bite-size dumplings) are covered with a thin crispy skirt and arranged in a circle. Since they are less than half the size of regular gyoza, you can easily finish an order of 10. Rather than typical gyoza, they are more like fried wonton-style snacks. Ordering is done on a touch panel. It seemed like a good spot for drinking alone too.

Hakata Gekijo Shibuya Miyamasuzaka Ten, about a 4-minute walk from Shibuya Station, is an izakaya where you can enjoy a wide variety of Hakata (Fukuoka) specialty dishes along with Special Kyushu shochu and local sake.

Inside, the space fully recreates a yatai mura (street food stall village) of Kyushu Hakata, and you can dine in a lively atmosphere.

The restaurant's top recommendation, "tetsunabe gyoza (iron pan dumplings)," is a dish that recreates the authentic flavor of Hakata yatai (food stalls).

Cooked in an iron pan, the dumplings are crisp on the outside and juicy inside, and they are said to taste great even without any dipping sauce. They also offer a house-made gyoza sauce.

If you want to fully enjoy authentic Hakata (a district in Fukuoka) flavors, you should also order the superb mentaiko motsu Hot Pot. You can choose from two sizes: small pot and medium pot.
