Craving some good yakitori (Japanese grilled chicken skewers), I headed to Ogi-san. I went with the full course and added the restaurant’s pairing option. Every skewer, starting with the tsukune (chicken meatball skewer), was cooked just right and tasted great, but the tomato wrapped in meat that I ordered as an extra was the standout that day♪Even though it was Friday, they let us stay a long time, so we could relax and enjoy the meal.

The yakitori uses fresh jidori (local free-range chicken) delivered directly every day. They Special select chickens with rich fat and great texture, including Hinai Jidori (premium Akita chicken).

Many people say the bonjiri (tail meat) is excellent. It is juicy with fat, yet leaves a clean finish, and the fragrant char goes very well with it.

In addition to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), they also offer courses that combine chicken dishes and Wagyu dishes.

This is one of the plates served in the "Tori to A5 Wagyu Course." It is a flavor-packed steak made with A5-ranked Domestic beef and cooked rare.

Among the skewers, the ones that stood out most were kamo tsukune (duck meatball), bonjiri (chicken tail), and kawa (chicken skin). The kamo tsukune was meaty and had a rich flavor different from chicken, while the bonjiri was packed with the aroma of charcoal grilling and savory taste, with a tender and springy texture.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and wine were both delicious. There was also a wide variety of rare cuts, which made the meal fun. The atmosphere was nice too, and even at the counter we could relax and enjoy our conversation.

The grilled items were nicely sized, and since they were served fresh off the grill, they tasted great! The tsukune (chicken meatball skewer) that often shows up in review photos was also soft and tasty! To finish, they served ni-men (simmered noodles), and the yuzu kosho (yuzu chili pepper paste) added a nice kick and left the palate feeling refreshed.

The jidori (free-range chicken) was grilled over charcoal, giving it a great aroma, with crispy skin and juicy meat inside. The more I chewed, the more flavor came through, and it was really delicious. I also liked being able to change up the taste with salt and yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper paste). It paired really well with the drinks.

Taishu Izakaya Toriichizu Yurakucho Ten

Taishu Izakaya Toriichizu Yurakucho Ten is a popular izakaya specializing in chicken dishes, with restaurants across Japan. It offers a wide range of chicken dishes, including yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), mizutaki-nabe (chicken hot pot), and Kara-age.

The restaurant has a casual interior where groups can have a lively time. It is a large restaurant with more than 100 seats.

The biggest feature here is Imabari yakitori, a local yakitori style from Ehime Prefecture. Instead of being put on skewers, it is pressed and grilled on a Teppan-yaki griddle, then served on a plate.

This cooking method lets the extra fat drip away and gives it a nice, fragrant finish. Another nice point is that it is easy to share.

Another signature dish is the mizutaki-nabe (chicken Hot Pot) made using only chicken bones and water. By simmering it for more than 8 hours, the soup becomes rich and cloudy white.

It is said to be packed with collagen, with an amazingly smooth and velvety texture. At the end, you can add white rice to soak up the soup and enjoy every last drop.

It was my first time trying Imabari yakitori (Imabari-style grilled chicken), a dish of sunagimo (gizzards) and reba (liver) grilled on a silver plate with cabbage on the side, and it was such a hit that I even thought it might be better than yakitori served on skewers! The bone-in chicken, served without seasoning and grilled with a sweet and savory sauce to just the right doneness, also made me really happy because I could take a big bite right off the bone and enjoy it in a bold, hearty way, and it was delicious.

でこつむじfrom石川

Since this is a restaurant specializing in chicken dishes, we ordered a variety of items with a focus on the chicken menu. The one that stood out most was the "Spicy Chicken." Maybe because it was so late at night and felt a little indulgent, the spicy, bold seasoning really hit the spot more than usual, and it tasted insanely good! lol
