Sushi no Kura is a hidden gem located on the first basement floor of a building, a 4-minute walk from Susukino Station. Here, you can enjoy creative sushi crafted by an owner-chef with a strong passion for sushi.
The interior is said to be a stylish and relaxed space with the feel of a bar. It is by reservation only, with just 4 counter seats.

They offer only the Omakase course, and the price changes with the season. They use fresh seafood sourced from markets around Japan. They also adjust the temperature of the shari (sushi rice) depending on the topping.
The photo shows their signature ika (squid), which is seared with a soldering iron and lets you enjoy different textures in different parts.
Photograph:仮面三世
The menu includes not only sushi but also a wide range of appetizers that will impress sake lovers. Each one is said to be creative and delicious.
The photo shows the "tachi soup," made with soft roe from cod milt. It is a popular specialty that draws diners from all over Japan, and the soft roe is said to be lightly warm and creamy.

Each piece of nigiri also showed wonderful craftsmanship that differed from Edomae-style sushi depending on the ingredient, and I got to enjoy one of a kind sushi such as ika (squid) and kinki (channel rockfish) seared with a soldering iron to add a nice char. The shari (sushi rice), made mainly with rice vinegar and with a mild acidity, was warm at the start, and from the middle on its temperature was adjusted depending on the topping.

We started with beer, and partway through switched to Japanese sake, with the owner serving recommended selections. The course included 7 small plates, then a soup, followed by 10 pieces of sushi. It lasted about 2 hours. Both the small plates and the sushi focused on seasonal ingredients you would expect in Hokkaido, and everything paired well with the drinks. It was even better than expected.

Sushidokoro Ichii is a sushi restaurant where you can enjoy seasonal seafood caught in Hokkaido. It is located in a building along Miyako-dori, a 3-minute walk from Susukino Station.
The interior is a small space with counter seats and 10 table seats. They say you can enjoy sushi in a homey atmosphere.
Photograph:ff631c
The sushi, made with fresh neta (toppings for sushi) and shaped by an experienced taisho (head chef), is said to be good across the board. If you sit at the counter, you can enjoy your sushi while watching the chef’s skilled work.
The restaurant seems to be popular for its two course options, both of which include sushi and a range of a la carte dishes. Each course also comes with the 7 pieces of nigiri sushi shown in the photo.
Photograph:たくまるゆかまる
The a la carte dishes included in the course are varied, with simmered dishes and sunomono (vinegared dishes), among others. The selection changes depending on what is available that day, but everything is tasty, and you may even come across some rare ingredients.
The drink list is also extensive, centered on local sake from Hokkaido and shochu, along with plenty of options that pair well with sushi. Because it is popular, making a reservation is recommended.

After that, we had nigiri (hand-formed sushi) as we liked. What stood out most were the nishin (herring), with its perfect amount of fat, and the hokki (surf clam), which had a wonderful signature texture. The gentle mannered chef brought together Edomae-zushi (Tokyo-style sushi) techniques and Hokkaido seafood beautifully, making this a place you will want to visit again.

Toro (fatty tuna), uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon roe), botan-ebi (spot prawn), white fish, shellfish, and more—classic picks with absolutely no corners cut. The temperature of the shari (sushi rice) and the way it gently comes apart are perfect, and the way it becomes one with the topping in your mouth is what makes sushi so special. This quality at this price range is truly impressive.

Chokotto Zushi Bettei is a sushi restaurant located on the basement level of a building along Ginza-dori, a 2-minute walk from Susukino Station. Here you can enjoy authentic sushi built around the theme of Hokkaido x Okinawa.
The stylish and calm interior is compact, with only 11 seats in total, including counter seats and Semi-private room seating.

The sushi served here combines ingredients and cooking methods from Hokkaido and Okinawa. Each piece is seasoned so you can enjoy it without soy sauce, and they are all said to taste great.
One standout feature is their strong focus on the freshness and quality of the maguro (tuna). With each bite, a refined umami is said to spread across the palate.
Photograph:tamago_415
They also offer several kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese meal) courses, so you can enjoy a wide range of à la carte dishes as well. It depends on the course, but you can enjoy 10〜12 pieces of sushi.
The à la carte dishes are also carefully prepared, and all of them are said to be delicious. You can add All you can drink as well. Because it is popular, making a reservation is recommended.

I stopped by 2 years ago and it was very good, so I decided to visit again this time. I ordered a course, and the dishes including the Appetizers were also very good. I was also glad to try nigiri, including shishamo (smelt) nigiri, which you do not usually get to eat in Kanto. They shape each piece to match the topping, so it is exciting to see what kind of sushi will come out.

An array of sushi toppings that all look delicious is lined up. The 5 Omakase side dishes were all high quality and every one of them was delicious. The sushi toppings, from tokishirazu (spring salmon) sushi to uni (sea urchin), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and sweet shrimp cured with kombu kelp, were all on a different level. This is a place I’d like to visit regularly.

Sushi and a la carte dishes made with Special ingredients from Hokkaido are served as courses at “Sushi Tenchijin.” It is located on the basement first floor of a building along Tsukisamu-dori, a 2-minute walk from Susukino Station.
The interior is said to be a refined, luxurious space. It is by reservation only, with only 8 counter seats in total.

The only course available is the Omakase course, and the start time is fixed.
The sushi toppings are said to be fresh, and the sushi rice, made with akazu (red vinegar), is shaped just right, making every piece tasty. From every seat, you can enjoy the live feel of watching the chef's skilled work while savoring the sushi.
Photograph:amiinnnnnn
The photo shows the restaurant's signature shime-saba no bo-zushi (pressed sushi topped with cured mackerel), a specialty that highlights the owner's skill. It is topped with mackerel cured in vinegar. The fish is thick and satisfying to eat, and is said to be excellent.
The course also includes a variety of a la carte dishes made with fresh seafood. Each one is delicately seasoned, letting you fully enjoy the rich flavor of the seafood.
ひさや
When you sit at the counter, the clean scent of wood fills the air as sushi, shaped with careful movements, comes together right in front of you. On this day, we had mostly seasonal fish from Dosan (Hokkaido), and every topping had a great balance of flavor and aroma. The vinegared rice was gently warm, with a soft texture that loosened nicely in the mouth. I especially felt the chef’s delicate touch in the way the white fish and shellfish were handled.

The sushi rice is firm and seasoned with akazu (red vinegar). The sushi is shaped beautifully, and I was impressed by the high level of skill, as it did not fall apart whether I picked it up with chopsticks or by hand. The sawara (Spanish mackerel) was aged for six days, and the onion soy sauce paired with it was excellent.

Nidaime Tatsuyoshi Tanukikoji Ten is a sushi restaurant on Nishi 3-chome Street, a 3-minute walk from Susukino Station.
The interior has a calm Japanese modern feel. The 1st floor has a casual standing counter, while the 2nd and 3rd floors offer table seating and Semi-private room seating that work well for groups.

The sushi uses only Special fresh toppings unique to Hokkaido. The shari (vinegared sushi rice) made with red vinegar is on the smaller side, and everything is so fresh and tasty that you could keep eating piece after piece.
On the 1st floor, you can enjoy sushi and otsumami (small dishes to go with drinks), while on the 2nd and 3rd floors, you can enjoy courses that include sushi and a variety of other à la carte dishes.
Photograph:DGD
They offer several different courses with different prices and contents. They are known for being very filling, but the sushi is so good that some people even eat more sushi on the first floor before heading home.
The photo shows part of the most popular Hana Course. It is a slightly luxurious course where you can also enjoy crab sashimi and Wagyu tempura.
Mizuhosan
This is a sushi restaurant where you can feel the care in every piece, with sushi that is simply and deeply delicious. Every topping is fresh, and the shiromi (white fish) and chutoro (medium fatty tuna) in particular melt in your mouth the moment you take a bite...! The kobachi (small side dishes) and nitsuke (simmered fish or vegetables) are also seasoned with elegance and have an excellent balance. With its calm atmosphere, this was a highly satisfying place where you can relax and savor your meal.

The nigiri used slightly smaller red-vinegared rice, which I personally found easy to eat. I was also happy to enjoy nigiri topped with Hokkaido nishin (herring), something you can get only at this time of year ^_^♪ The engawa (flounder fin) also had a light yuzu salt aroma and tasted great. The house-made kanpyo-maki (dried gourd roll) was a bit unusual too, and it was tasty as well〜

What sets it apart is the care that goes not only into the neta (sushi toppings) but also into the shari (sushi rice). They use a blend of new and aged Yumepirika rice from Hokkaido, then season it with a blended vinegar of akazu (red vinegar) and junmai-su (pure rice vinegar), plus coarse salt and sugar.
The counter seats are appealing not only because you can watch the chefs at work, but also because you can enjoy nigiri made right in front of you.

They serve only an Omakase course that lets you fully enjoy ingredients from Hokkaido. A unique touch is the welcome drink of Hokkaido milk.
Every piece of sushi is said to be delicious, but the uni (sea urchin) in particular is famous for being outstanding. The à la carte dishes are also varied and tasty, and they pair well with drinks.

At the beginning, they explained the structure of the course (sushi, tsumami (small dishes), then sushi), and the first item was Ezo mozuku (Okinawa mozuku seaweed). It had a firmer texture than the kind harvested in southern seas. The first half of the sushi included karei (flounder) topped with karasumi (dried mullet roe), menuke (rockfish), chutoro (medium fatty tuna) (Toi), kohada (gizzard shad), kegani (horsehair crab), Aoriika (bigfin reef squid), masu no suke (trout salmon), and hokkigai (surf clam), aburi (seared). The slightly larger toppings paired well with the red vinegar shari (sushi rice), and it was very good.

It lived up to its reputation as a great restaurant. Of course the neta (sushi toppings) were excellent, but I strongly felt the care they put into the shari (seasoned sushi rice) as well. I think it is because the balance is so good, but I felt like I could keep eating piece after piece.

A total of 8 pieces of nigiri sushi were served before and after, with a well-balanced selection that included akami (lean tuna), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), seasonal shiromi (white fish), and aburi (seared items). Everything was very fresh, and each piece was finished in a way that brought out the best of the topping. The rolls also included torotaku (fatty tuna and pickled daikon roll) and a luxurious tempura roll made with uni (sea urchin), crab, and shrimp. Eaten together with the fragrant nori seaweed, it offered a fun mix of textures and felt like a rich, special plate.

If you want to enjoy sushi casually, a lunchtime visit is recommended. They offer good value set menus that come with chawanmushi (savory egg custard steamed with dashi and ingredients) and soup.
Rice bowl dishes are also popular, including the "Kaisen-don (seafood Rice bowl)," which is topped with plenty of seafood over vinegared rice. Every option is said to be a great value and leave you satisfied.

I ordered the Omakase sushi and a seafood Rice bowl. They gladly accommodated even detailed requests. The toppings were fresh, and I could really feel the sushi chef’s attention to detail. The final yamawasabi (Japanese horseradish) hosomaki had a sharp kick that brought tears to my eyes. I just happened to pass by, but I could eat right away, and it was absolutely the right call!

There is also an itamae counter (chef’s counter) here, so if you ask, it feels like they might make the sushi right in front of you. This time, I had the Omakase 9 pieces of nigiri: soi (rockfish), hokke (Atka mackerel), shima-aji (striped jack), nishin (herring), hokki (surf clam), uni (sea urchin), ikura (salmon roe), negi-maguro (minced tuna with scallions), and shako (mantis shrimp). The nishin was especially good. It is also nice to eat in a Private room that feels like it can add a Special touch.

Every a la carte dish also has a great reputation. The contents vary depending on the course and what is available that day, but they include sashimi, grilled dishes, fried dishes, and assorted delicacies.
In particular, the simmered seafood, rich with flavor, is said to be delicious, and it pairs perfectly with the wide selection of local sake.

・Special Sushiryu Course
I was surprised that the sushi at the end of the course came with this many pieces. It even included toro and uni (sea urchin). In Susukino, it is hard to find sushi of this quality at this price with All you can drink included. I would definitely like to stop by again.

Since this time we were with a group that drinks a lot, we also asked for the All you can drink option. Every dish and every piece of sushi was delicious. They have not only counter seats but also table seating that feels like a Private room. I think this is a great place where you can enjoy tasty food and sushi while drinking plenty of alcohol.

They offer courses that include sushi and individual dishes. You can enjoy seasonal seafood and vegetables. There is also a wide a la carte selection, and a nice point is that you can order sushi from just 1 piece.
At the counter seats, you can choose the toppings you like from the display case right in front of you, and enjoy the chefs' craftsmanship while eating great sushi.

The sushi is said to be fresh and delicious across the board. The photo shows the “Sushi assortment Hinoki,” where you can enjoy 12 pieces of Omakase Special nigiri. It is apparently served in two rounds. This is a great pick when you are not sure what toppings to choose.
The à la carte dishes are also all excellent, with nice creative touches, and they are said to pair perfectly with drinks.

I visited with a friend. It was my first time at a non-conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, so I felt a bit nervous, but the taisho (head sushi chef) was friendly and helped me relax. Since I had no idea what to order, I mainly went with the Omakase, and every dish was excellent. They also had a wide selection of drinks and side dishes, so I would like to visit again.

It was an On-the-Day reservation, but luckily there were seats open at the counter✨✨The chef was very pleasant⤴️and accommodated every request, from how to eat it and how to cut it to the amount of shari (sushi rice)⤴️The uni (sea urchin) was incredibly good. I had the nishin (herring) cut into thin strips and ate it with ichimi (Japanese chili pepper) and soy sauce✨✨✨

They offer courses with sushi and a variety of a la carte dishes, as well as a la carte ordering. You can also add an All you can drink option that includes local sake that pairs well with the sushi.
The sushi is said to use exceptionally fresh toppings, with mildly seasoned shari (sushi rice) in a nicely balanced size. The photo shows anago (conger eel), which is said to pair perfectly with its light flesh and sweet sauce.

It seems the lunchtime service, where you can casually enjoy sushi, is especially popular. They offer a wide range of good value set menus.
The photo shows the Nigiri <Matsu>, which lets you enjoy 10 pieces of nigiri sushi and 6 pieces of makizushi (rolled sushi). This filling set also comes with chawanmushi (savory egg custard steamed with dashi and ingredients), soba, and soup.

Each piece of neta (sushi topping) felt like a gift from Hokkaido itself, and the freshness was so striking that it made us look at each other in surprise. What stood out most were the uni (sea urchin), with its perfect balance of sweetness and melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the lightly seared items with just the right amount of香ばしさ. Even the temperature of the shari (sushi rice) and the softness of the握り showed careful craftsmanship, and it made me think, so this is what proper sushi is...

A friend invited me, so I visited Saikaku again for the first time in a while. We had the Premium 10-piece sushi set, hotate (scallop) gratin, kaki (oyster) mizore-ni (simmered with grated daikon), and dual highballs for a mini New Year Party. The sushi was especially good, especially the scallop and anago (conger eel) (๑'ڡ'๑)୨Both à la carte dishes were absolutely amazing! I’ll definitely stop by again.

Sushi Taira is a sushi restaurant on the 3rd floor of a building along Minami 6-jo Dori, a 4-minute walk from Susukino Station. In a chic, refined space with the feel of an elegant bar, you can enjoy sushi made with On-the-Day Special neta (toppings).
There are only 10 counter seats, and it often fills up, so making a reservation is recommended.

Basically, they offer two types of Omakase courses, but they also have an à la carte option, so you can choose what works best for the occasion.
The sushi, made with red vinegar rice, is said to feature toppings with outstanding freshness across the board and consistently good flavor. Another plus is that every seat lets you enjoy the live atmosphere and have the nigiri served freshly made.

They go to the market themselves to buy every ingredient they use. Not only the sushi but also the à la carte dishes are carefully prepared, and all of them are said to be unquestionably delicious.
The photo shows hotate (scallop) isobeyaki, with grilled scallop wrapped in nori (seaweed). They also have a wide selection of drinks that pair well with sushi, including wine and Japanese sake.

The sashimi, the a la carte dishes, and the nigiri (hand-formed sushi) were all genuinely delicious. I like akazu (red vinegar), so I made a reservation and went, and the sushi was extremely good, leaving me very Manzoku. It was so tasty that even people who are not big on akazu would probably still find it delicious. I was so satisfied that I ended up ordering extra dishes on top of the course.

I think they serve really delicious sushi at prices that are easy on the wallet! Even though the interior is stylish, the chef’s warm personality makes it feel very comfortable. Every time I take a bite, it tastes so good that it stops me in my tracks. I’m not really an expert when it comes to gourmet food, but I can still feel the sense of style, or maybe the aesthetic, and the care that shows in every detail.

The shari (sushi rice) is a blend of three kinds of rice so it still tastes good even after some time has passed. It is said to be small and easy to eat. They also use different nori (seaweed) depending on the purpose.
Their carefully crafted sushi is said to be excellent across the board. If you sit at the counter, you can also enjoy watching the chef’s skills right in front of you.

You can order from several course options or à la carte, but the courses seem to be the more popular choice. Along with sushi, you can enjoy simmered dishes, grilled dishes, crab, and more in a luxurious spread.
The contents vary depending on what is available that day, but every course is said to reflect the season, with excellent timing for each dish, making for a high level of Manzoku.

This time, we went with Omakase while also asking for a few things we wanted to try! Sushi really is great. You get to enjoy seasonal ingredients at their best. The chef’s lively conversation was fun too! Akagai (ark shell clam) and kohada (gizzard shad), which I was surprised to be trying for the first time, were so good. The otoro negima was amazing too, with incredibly rich fat!

All the other dishes and nigiri (hand-formed sushi) were excellent as well. The chef’s conversation was just right, and the space felt so comfortable that guests naturally started chatting with each other. I’d like to visit again in a different season.
