Paperburg

This is a house-roasted coffee shop in the nature-rich Gotenyama area of Hachioji City. It is a retro cafe surrounded by antique furniture, with a feel that makes you think of stepping back into medieval Europe.

The interior has a rich, stately feel and is said to offer a calm space where adults can relax in style.

They serve full flavored coffee using their own "German Roast" method, which ranges from medium-dark to dark roast.

The blended coffee "Burg" is known for its deep richness that still stands up well even with milk added. One of the fun touches is that it comes served in a retro cup.

The sweets served with the coffee mainly focus on traditional German and Austrian pastries. Everything is Homemade.

The "Linzer Torte" sandwiches Homemade framboise jam between a crunchy pastry. Its perfect balance of sweetness and tartness makes it an excellent match for coffee.

It feels like a retro yoshoku (Western-style Japanese) restaurant, but the coffee and desserts are quite serious. It was a fine cafe where you could enjoy watching the coffee being brewed right in front of you at the counter. The carefully crafted atmosphere is exciting. Even the house-roasted coffee beans and coffee base sold there are stylish in every little detail.

This is a place with a sense of Special that makes you feel gently removed from everyday life. The first thing you should try here is the coffee, carefully brewed in a siphon. Just watching it being extracted right in front of you lifts your mood, and the aroma rises softly, with a completely different kind of spread the moment you take a sip. It is that kind of cup, one that makes the visit worth it just for this alone.

Kakinoki Terrace

A 15-minute walk from Hachioji Station, this retro cafe is set in a renovated kominka (traditional Japanese house). With thick ceiling beams and a brown-toned interior, the shop has a nostalgic feel.

There is a large kaki tree (persimmon tree) in the garden, and they also offer terrace seating.

The "Sweets Set" offers a mini parfait, Japanese-style dessert, cake, and a drink at a good value.

A popular choice among coffee lovers is the "Tiramisu." It is said to be good, with an airy, fluffy texture and a pleasantly bittersweet taste. The toasted aroma and texture of almonds add a nice accent.

The main food menu centers on European style curry, built on a roux slowly simmered for 3 days with more than 20 kinds of spices.

The rice is made with genmai (brown rice), which is another plus for health conscious diners. There are lots of topping options, and the most popular is the "Yamagata Yonezawa-buta (Yamagata Yonezawa pork) Katsu Curry".

I had the eggplant and ground meat curry, and then the pumpkin pudding. I was happy they gave a generous amount of curry sauce…! The ground meat was chunky too, and it had a nice meaty texture and great flavor! The place was made by renovating a kominka (traditional Japanese house), and the retro lighting was really cute〜I was able to relax and take my time!

食のマザーテレサ

A hidden curry gem in Hachioji. The retro interior with its wood-toned decor feels calm and relaxing. I always look forward to the curry with roux that lets you choose the spice level, plus seasonal toppings in addition to the regular menu.

Hachioji Coffee Ten

A retro cafe where you can enjoy yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) and sweets paired with authentic coffee. It also has a great location, just a 3-minute walk from Hachioji Station.

The retro interior, with its calm color palette, brings to mind a classic Japanese kissaten (traditional coffee shop). Soft jazz plays in the background, and the cozy atmosphere is part of the appeal.

Their fragrant, authentic coffee, carefully brewed by hand drip, is a hit. To go with it, they offer a lineup of nostalgic sweets such as Nama Purin a la Mode (fresh pudding à la mode).

The rich pudding has a firm texture and comes in an irresistible classic style, served with seasonal fruit and ice cream.

The "Blueberry Pancakes" are carefully baked in-house and served piping hot. The batter has a unique chewy texture, and with each bite, the aroma of wheat spreads across the palate.

They come with sweet-tart blueberries and lightly sweetened cream, and are said to be so good that you can finish them in no time.

The interior feels open, and details like the fans, lighting, and plants give it a jun-kissa (classic Japanese coffeehouse) feel, while the plush sofas make it easy to relax and spend a calm moment. The cups are lovely too, with a retro silverware style☕️The counter seats have power outlets, and there is Wi-Fi as well, so you can spend your time at a leisurely pace◎

The shop has the feel of a kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) that blends a retro mood with a stylish touch. I ordered the nama purin a la mode (fresh pudding à la mode) and an iced coffee as a drink set. The pudding in the nama purin a la mode had a unique mousse-like texture, and while it was not the kind of pudding I have had very often, it was good in its own way.

Sharlock Holmes

Just a 1-minute walk from Hachioji Station, this place stands out with its charming ivy-covered exterior. Surrounded by antiques imported directly from the UK, this authentic English pub lets you step into the world of Sherlock Holmes.

In the afternoon, it becomes a retro cafe where you can enjoy an out-of-the-ordinary tea time.

At cafe time, the focus is mainly on sweets and drinks. At night, it can also be used as a bar, so the drink menu is extensive.

The "ichigo (strawberry) cream soda" has drawn surprised reviews for its extra-large size. The best part is said to be melting the vanilla ice cream into the refreshing soda as you drink it.

The lunch menu's "Homemade Hamburger Steak Set" gets rave reviews. Made by hand kneading a blend of ground meats, it is a home style Hamburger Steak with a soft, tender texture.

There is also a wide variety of sauces, including demi-glace and tomato. The set also comes with salad, soup, and a drink.

もぐのすけ太郎

It seems you can use it as a lunch spot, cafe, or bar depending on the time. Both the building and the interior are impressive, and it made me want to come back at night too. The apple mousse was sold out, so I went with the lemon Mont Blanc instead, and it was fresh and delicious. The latte is cute too.

Everything has a retro design, with a nice sense of weight and dignity. Portraits, perhaps of the actor who played in the Sherlock_Holmes movie, are also displayed on the ceiling. The Sherlock_Holmes logo and silhouette are printed on the glass parts of the shop windows and the partitions between seats as well, showing real attention to detail.

With brick walls, thick beams, and other details throughout, the space has a lot of character and lets you feel the history of the old storehouse everywhere.

The menu has a classic style, centered on hand-dripped coffee and Homemade sweets.

The coffee is said to have a smooth yet bold mouthfeel thanks to the well water pumped up from 60m underground. The photo shows the "Vienna coffee" topped with plenty of fresh cream.

The "Homemade chiffon cake" is said to pair perfectly with coffee. It features a fluffy sponge with a simple sweetness, topped with plenty of milky Homemade fresh cream.

The melt-in-your-mouth texture that only Homemade can offer and its light taste gently wrap around the bitterness of the coffee, they say.

You can really taste the liquor flavor, and you enjoy it with plenty of fresh cream♪ The sweetness is mild, and even though there was a lot of it, I kept adding more cream and it was gone in no time. Spending a relaxing time with good coffee and cake in the calm atmosphere feels so luxurious~.

ki.

A coffee shop with a calm, slightly retro feel. I thought the rich, fragrant, authentic taste would be hard to find at a cheap coffee shop(^^)The tables felt a little small, but that also matched the atmosphere very well, like antique furnishings!

The good old space has remained unchanged since the cafe first opened, and it is said to feel very comfortable. Many reviews mention the low sofas and the old-style menu wording as pleasantly nostalgic.

The "Chocolate Parfait" comes in a classic style, served with fruit preserved in syrup. It has layers of chocolate ice cream and cream, packed tightly into the glass.

With its retro atmosphere, the place gives you a nostalgic feeling from the moment you step inside. The menu has a classic kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) lineup, with old-school Napolitan pasta, pilaf, sandwiches, and sweets. The blended coffee is a solid dark roast, with a nice richness under its slight bitterness. It tastes even better with sweets, which bring out its charm even more.

おれんじ~

This is a traditional jun-kissa (old-school Japanese coffee shop) with a full retro feel. It was so relaxing! There are fewer places like this these days, so I’m glad to find one. The salad dressing had a lemon cream flavor and tasted great. The Napolitan had just the right richness of ketchup flavor.

Ikoi

A retro cafe tucked away along Misaki-dori in front of Hachioji Station. It follows an old school style specializing in coffee, and the inside is said to be filled with a nice aroma.

The lighting, seating, and menu all have lots of elements that give it a retro feel.

The "Irish coffee" lets you enjoy a dreamy flame performance. They transfer a flame to warmed Irish whiskey, filling the air with a rich aroma.

Once the flame goes out, they pour in coffee and gently float fresh cream on top to finish the drink.

Its deep, rich flavor is balanced by a nice touch of lemon acidity, leaving a refreshing finish. You can enjoy the classic pairing of cake and coffee.

It was easy to see that this shop has a strong dedication to coffee on the part of the master. They offer a wide variety of coffees, roast their own beans in house, and carefully brew each cup one by one. The interior had the feel of a retro Showa-era jun-kissa (traditional Japanese coffeehouse), making it the kind of place where you can relax, settle in, and enjoy a good cup of coffee at a leisurely pace.

The interior has the warmth of wood and a calm atmosphere with quiet music playing. It feels as if time is moving slowly. This time, I ordered a hot mocha java and pudding. The mocha java is highly aromatic, with a faint chocolate-like sweetness behind the bitterness. It has a rich body, yet the finish is clean, making it a well-balanced cup.

A retro cafe founded in 1975. About a 2-minute walk from Keio-Horinouchi Station, this hideaway spot sits in a quiet residential neighborhood.

The interior has remained unchanged since it first opened, and the space is filled with retro furnishings and the sound of jazz, making it a very comfortable place to relax.

All the coffee is carefully brewed by hand drip, giving it an authentic feel. "Hatsuga Coffee (sprouted coffee) (dark roast/medium roast)" stands out as a rare item and has been drawing attention.

Its key feature is that the green coffee beans are intentionally sprouted before roasting. That takes away any sharp aroma, resulting in a smooth, gentle cup.

ラバウル飛曹長

I had curry, American coffee, and chocolate cake for lunch. The curry rice started with a touch of sweetness, followed by a spicy flavor, and it felt like eating high quality hotel curry, so it was extremely delicious. The chocolate cake also had just the right amount of sweetness and tasted absolutely great.
