Recommended kakigori (shaved ice) shops in Fukuoka Prefecture and Fukuoka City

This shaved ice specialty shop is run directly by an ice company founded in 1946. It uses carefully selected ice from Hakata and syrup ingredients sourced from Kyushu. The shaved ice is known for its fine texture and soft, airy feel.
In a stylish cafe-like space, you can enjoy shaved ice all year round.

The photo shows the vividly red Premium Amaou. The strawberries used are amaou (premium Fukuoka strawberries), a specialty of Fukuoka Prefecture. They turn them into a rich syrup while keeping some of the fruit's texture.
The syrup is almost like jam, and the ice melts smoothly in the mouth, making it so good that you finish it in no time.

This is the Yame matcha (green tea) milk. This shaved ice lets you enjoy Japanese style flavors, made with carefully selected matcha from Kyushu and milk. It uses high quality matcha from Yame City and milk raised in the rich natural surroundings of Aso.
It also comes with matcha ice cream and anko (sweet red bean paste) inside. Some reviews say it is a satisfying dish all the way to the last bite.

Everything you eat here is really good, and the carefully shaved fine textured ice in particular melts smoothly in your mouth and feels amazing. It is also a rare and much appreciated place that serves kakigori (shaved ice) all year round, so you can feel Manzoku whenever you visit.

スパマキシマム
・A blissful shaved ice with fragrant kinako (roasted soybean flour) and gyuhi mochi (soft rice cake)
The rich, toasty kinako sauce goes perfectly with the fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth shaved ice, giving it a smooth texture and a really delicious sense of Japanese-style luxury!!! On top of that, it came with azuki (sweet red beans), puffed rice crackers, nuts, and even soft, gooey shiratama dumplings, which made it the best.

This shop is known for its creative kakigori (shaved ice) that looks like parfaits and cakes. It is within walking distance of the Yaninaga Danchi bus stop and stands in front of a local supermarket popular with tourists.
It is open only in summer. Inside, the cute and calm space offers counter and table seating.

In addition to the regular favorites, they offer a wide range of limited-time kakigori (shaved ice). Another plus is the easy-to-choose menu, which clearly lists the ingredients and features of each item.
The photo shows the “Raw Strawberry Sauce & Raw Cashew Nut Cream.” The sauce uses fresh strawberries from Kyushu, giving it a fresh taste.

"Matcha-zuki ga Kangaeta Horoniga Otona no Matcha Gori" seems to be a dish enjoyed with a rich matcha syrup that is only lightly sweet.
Homemade condensed milk comes on the side, so you can pour it on to your liking. Some say that as the ice melts, it feels almost like drinking matcha.

What I had that day was the standard menu item, "8-layer masala chai sauce & bavarois." The spiced sauce and bavarois... it was truly a dolce-style kakigori (shaved ice)! A fluffy sweet like a cake that feels less guilty. They also serve hot tea, so you can keep eating it without getting tired of it until the very end. This is a recommended place.

At the register by the entrance, I ordered the strawberry sauce and cashew nuts. I took a table seat, and after a few minutes, a cute, round shaved ice dessert was brought over. It was fluffy shaved ice with a gentle strawberry flavor. It had berry jelly, cashew nut cream, and other ingredients inside, so I could enjoy it all the way to the last bite without getting tired of it.

Located on the 6th floor of a department store right outside Tenjin-Minami Station, this is a place where you can enjoy Japanese food and Japanese sweets. Their kakigori (shaved ice), available only in summer, is popular.
The calm interior has high ceilings and an open feel, and you can also enjoy the view from the windows. It is also perfect for taking a break while shopping.

The kakigori (shaved ice) gets great reviews for the care that goes into every detail. The menu features Japanese ingredients such as matcha, azuki (red beans), and shiratama (rice flour dumplings).
For children and anyone who likes cute things, the "Shiro Kuma" comes recommended. It lets you enjoy a variety of fruits, and its smooth ice cream is part of the appeal.

"Kinako-gori (shaved ice with roasted soybean flour)" is one of the shop's recommended menu items. It is said to be a popular dish, topped with plenty of kinako over a kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup) based syrup.
The toppings are also plentiful, including shiratama (rice flour dumplings), anko (sweet red bean paste), and ice cream.

I ordered the milk Uji matcha shaved ice. It had a rich flavor all the way from the first bite to the last, with a deep Uji matcha (green tea from Uji) taste. The fluffy shaved ice was delicious. The shiratama (glutinous rice dumplings) were pleasantly chewy and tasty. I was also happy that it came with hot tea. The relaxed atmosphere made it feel like a hidden gem.

The view here is really great, and you can relax and take your time. I love the summer kakigori (shaved ice), of course, but I also love the sweets other than kakigori. My favorite kakigori is the kinako shaved ice! When kakigori is not available, I always end up ordering this matcha parfait, though the food also looks good and always catches my eye. I’m happy that the sweets come with warm tea as well.

The kakigori (shaved ice) made with pure ice has a light, airy texture. Even though it is quite large, it is said to go down easily.
The syrups are popular for really bringing out the flavor of the ingredients, with an excellent balance of sweetness. From classics to limited-time specials, they offer a wide variety of kakigori.

At the front of the photo is the "Tsubu-tsubu strawberry milk." It is a classic menu item you can enjoy all year round. The sweet and tangy strawberry sauce with bits of fruit balances perfectly with the rich milk.
It is a classic combination, but it has a luxurious finish with a Special feel. This is said to be a popular shaved ice that leaves you with a strong sense of Manzoku.

The limited kakigori (shaved ice) that changes with the seasons is popular for menus made with fresh fruit. The ice used at Yukinko is junko-ri (pure ice), so it has high clarity, contains almost no impurities, melts more slowly than regular ice, and feels smooth on the palate.

They use a QR ordering system, and the shaved ice menu is extensive. I ordered the Shine Muscat shaved ice. It was topped with Shine Muscat grapes and drizzled with white grape sauce. As I worked my spoon into the middle, I found red grape sauce hidden inside, and that was tasty too. It was large in volume and a Manzoku dish.

This stylish cafe serves baked sweets, coffee, and kakigori (shaved ice) all year round. It is said to have an atmosphere that makes it easy to drop in even on your own.
The kakigori, topped with house made syrup and seasonal fruit, has a great reputation for looking like a work of art.

You can enjoy kakigori (shaved ice) that looks simple and beautiful, yet opens up into deep layers of flavor.
The “Kinkan Jasmine” is a well-balanced creation with sweetness and acidity in harmony. Along with kumquat syrup, it is said to have an exquisite layered composition of yogurt mousse, rare cheese cream, and strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar.
Photograph:nao_1104
They also have a full lineup of sweets beyond kakigori (shaved ice), including parfaits with beautiful presentation and classic pudding.
The photo shows the shop’s signature “MISO no Purin (MISO Pudding).” It features a rich flavor and a slightly firm texture, and the slightly bitter caramel gives it a grown-up taste.

The "suika no kakigori (watermelon shaved ice)" is topped with a suika (watermelon) x annin (apricot kernel milk pudding) syrup, giving it the sweetness of biting into real ice-cold watermelon. A parfait from a kakigori (shaved ice) shop. Their parfaits seem to have become popular lately too. Because being able to enjoy such a lovely parfait in Jonan-ku (Jonan Ward) is just too good. It is not only beautiful, but also has a wonderful balance of flavors.

[Fukuoka Prefecture, Kitakyushu City] Recommended Kakigori (shaved ice) Shops
Photograph:nao_1104
This Japanese sweets shop and dessert cafe in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka is popular for its kakigori (shaved ice), available only in summer. The nearest station is Monorail Heiwadori Station, and the shop enjoys a great location just steps from the station.
Run by a long-established mochi (rice cake) shop, this place is said to have a calm atmosphere with the warm feel of wood throughout the interior.
Photograph:nao_1104
The kakigori (shaved ice) menu seems to focus on classic options such as "mizore (plain shaved ice with syrup)" and "milk kintoki (shaved ice with milk and sweet red beans)."
According to reviews, the popular choice is the "Uji Milk Kintoki," which comes with chewy shiratama dumplings. It is said to let you enjoy the classic taste of Uji Kintoki, with a rich matcha syrup and refined anko (sweet red bean paste).
It seems they offer a wide range of sweets that only a mochi shop can do, including abekawa (mochi with sweet soybean flour) and isobe-maki (mochi wrapped in seaweed).
The well reviewed zenzai (sweet red bean soup with mochi) is said to be irresistible, with fragrant mochi grilled after you order and oshiruko (sweet red bean soup) with a gentle sweetness.

Most people were ordering kakigori (shaved ice). I ordered the kakigori Uji-Kintoki (shaved ice with matcha syrup and sweet red beans) too. The bowl was piled high with kakigori, anko (sweet red bean paste), and shiratama (rice flour dumplings). The very rich tea aroma, bitterness, and sweetness were delicious. I want to visit again this summer.

When you walk in, Japanese sweets are lined up in front, and there is a cafe in the back. Inside, the calm table-seating space even has a pink public phone, and it is easy to visit alone. The drink menu is extensive, and for sweets they offer zenzai (sweet red bean soup), anmitsu (agar jelly dessert), and shaved ice from just after GW (Golden Week) until the end of October. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable.

This is a shaved ice specialty shop in Mojiko, a historic port town in Kitakyushu. It is known for its shaved ice made with high quality ice from an ice company with 85 years of history, topped with plenty of fruit pulp sauce.

The kakigori (shaved ice) made with a high quality ice shaver is said to have a light, snowy texture.
They seem to offer a wide variety of options topped generously with concentrated fruit sauces such as "white peach" and "mango." The photo shows their most popular item, the strawberry kakigori called "Amaou."

They also serve kakigori (shaved ice) made with ingredients other than fruit, and the “matcha tiramisu milk,” said to be as delicious as cake, is also popular.
It is made with matcha powder, house-made milk, mascarpone, and more, and the level of sweetness is said to be just right. As you keep eating, you will find matcha hidden inside as well.
yumiyumi16
I finally made it to the kakigori (shaved ice) shop I had wanted to visit for so long. I went back and forth on what to get, and in the end I added black tea sauce to the white peach flavor. The syrup was light and refreshing rather than overly sweet, and by the time I finished eating, my whole body felt cool〜. The price was reasonable too, and next year I’d like to come by a bit more often and try different syrups.

Thinking I’d be coming back a few more times, I tried the standard Amaou (premium Japanese strawberry) for the first time! It came with plenty of sauce that still kept the little pulpy bits of strawberry, and they poured the sauce over it in three rounds! The balance with the ice was just right, so it was not too sweet. The fruit sauce really is so good. I was happy to get to eat it again this year!

The “Milk Shiratama Kintoki” is said to be a kakigori (shaved ice dessert) that is popular with a wide range of age groups.
The Hokkaido azuki beans and the lightly sweet milk ice are said to go very well together. The soft and springy shiratama dumplings add a perfect accent.

The Uji-kintoki (matcha shaved ice with sweet red beans) has a rich matcha flavor, with an aroma and slight bitterness that stand up well to the milk. The tsubuan (chunky sweet red bean paste) is not too sweet and goes very well with the shaved ice. The ichigo milk also has a clear strawberry character in both its aroma and color. The syrup does not soak all the way through to the center, but the flavor is still full and distinct.

This shop is located at Shiraito no Taki (Shiraito Falls), a sightseeing spot in Itoshima, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is known for kakigori (shaved ice) with a snow-like melt-in-your-mouth texture, made from Itoshima’s natural spring water.
Step inside the nostalgic old building, and you’ll find an open and stylish space. There are also box seats, making this a great place to relax with family or friends during a break from sightseeing.

The ice, syrup, and toppings in the kakigori (shaved ice) are all said to let you fully enjoy the ingredients’ natural flavors.
The bold presentation and the soft, airy texture of the ice get great reviews. The appeal here is kakigori that lets you enjoy matcha, cheese, fruit, and more all in one.

One of the popular menu items, “Ato Modori Dekinai Amaou (Amaou so good you can’t go back),” is said to offer a rich taste that feels almost like eating cake.

• Hoshinomura (village in Fukuoka known for matcha) has amazing matcha
I was surprised from the very first bite! I’ve had many kinds of kakigori (shaved ice) made with natural ice, but this had the same texture as the Taiwanese shaved ice I had long ago, instantly light and fluffy like cotton candy. Rather than melting, it feels more like it disappears. With fresh cream, kinako (roasted soybean flour), and rich matcha, this was so good.

・Amaou (premium Fukuoka strawberry) you can't go back from
What especially surprised me was the ice, which had a very light texture and melted smoothly in the mouth like cotton candy. It melts slowly over time, so you can enjoy it at a relaxed pace. The whipped cream is not too sweet, and it goes perfectly with the wonderfully textured ice flavored with Amaou.

This kakigori (shaved ice) specialty shop is in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is said to serve kakigori year-round.

They are particular about making their sauces and creams Homemade, using as few preservatives and additives as possible.

This kakigori (shaved ice) was so well made that anyone could call it a perfect 10, and it tasted incredibly good. The balance of flavors that spread with each bite was wonderful, with just the right mix of sweetness and aroma, so I enjoyed it to the very end without getting tired of it. As I kept eating, I could also notice the flavors change, which made it feel like it had been carefully made like a single work of art. It was a highly satisfying dish.

"Imoshi no Mont Blanc." This shaved ice is so good you should not underestimate it. The ice is cold but does not feel cold. It never gives you that head freeze, and it does not melt. The salty feel of the imo chips (sweet potato chips), the solid sweetness of the sweet potato, and the softness of the ice all come together as one. I got drawn into the appeal of shaved ice. That was the moment I realized it is not something you eat only when it is hot.
