Recommended kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) in Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture

Sasuke

Sasuke is a kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant located along Prefectural Route 362, about a 10-minute walk from Minami-Fukushima Station. Many of the toppings use Special ingredients delivered fresh every morning directly from Hokkaido.

You order on a touch panel, and the food is served via an express lane. The space features hinoki (Japanese cypress) counter seats and box seats, giving it a relaxed feel.

The toppings are known for their firm texture and rich fat, and every piece is said to have a highly satisfying taste. One of the most popular items is the “Hon-maguro (bluefin tuna) sanshu assortment,” which lets you enjoy lean, medium-fatty, and fatty cuts all at once.

They also offer a full selection of three-piece nigiri menus, where you can enjoy a different topping with each piece.

The one-piece nigiri featuring premium toppings like botan-ebi (spot prawn) and nama-zuwai-gani (raw snow crab) is also not to be missed. They say the recommended choice is the "Jo uni (premium sea urchin)."

Its rich, full flavor spreads across the palate, and reviews say it is a highly satisfying plate.

まさるセグラ

I had a three-white-fish assortment of tai (sea bream), hirame (flounder), and kanpachi (greater amberjack), plus hotate kaibashira (scallop adductor muscle), and natto roll To finish. I think they use good quality white fish. The one that especially stood out was the tai. The flesh was so translucent you could almost see through to the shari (sushi rice), and it had a strong sweetness. The scallop was solid and tasty too. These toppings really show what Hokkaido does best.

This time, I mainly ordered the three-piece assortment. Tuna, shiromizakana (white fish), mayo gunkan (mayonnaise gunkan-maki), salmon, hikari-mono (silver-skinned fish), and more. It is nice that you can compare and try different kinds. For conveyor-belt sushi, it is fresh and very tasty. The fatty tuna really melts in your mouth. I recommend ordering the three-piece assortments, since you can try different sushi one piece at a time.

Umakatei Fukushima Nishi Ten

Umakatei Fukushima Nishi Ten is a local Fukushima conveyor belt sushi chain restaurant located along the roadside, about 6 minutes by car from Iwashiroshimizu Station. The menu centers on fresh fish caught in Sanriku and Iwaki around 37 degrees north latitude, with a wide range of toppings from standard picks to seasonal items.

This casual and easy-to-visit spot has counter seats, box seats, and zashiki (tatami seating).

You place your order directly with the sushi chef in front of you. The large cuts of neta (toppings) are said to be very satisfying to eat.

The honmaguro (bluefin tuna) tasting platter in the photo is a popular dish that lets you enjoy otoro (fatty tuna), chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and akami (lean tuna) all at once. It is known for its melt-in-your-mouth texture and is said to be highly satisfying.

If you are not sure what to order, the top pick is the Osusume Sankan, which lets you enjoy three kinds of seasonal neta (sushi toppings). It is said to have a great balance between the fresh neta and the shari (sushi rice), with a nice cohesive finish.

Another nice point is that you can enjoy it right after it is made. In addition to sushi, they also offer a full range of a la carte dishes and tempura.

やまがたまる

Sushi also goes around on the lane, but the basic style here is to order directly from the chef in front of you. We had the day's recommendations, a shiromi (white fish) three-piece assortment, chutoro (medium fatty tuna), and more. Every topping was fresh, and the shari (sushi rice) was shaped with just the right touch so it loosened nicely. It felt pleasant as it gently came apart in the mouth, with great balance between the fish and the rice.

We ordered sanma (Pacific saury), tai (sea bream), and other items from the recommended menu and had them made into nigiri sushi. We also had various other pieces made, and every topping was fresh and generous, so everything we tried tasted great. The arajiru (fish head soup) was also full of ingredients, with a rich broth that tasted great.

Recommended kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture

Kaiten Sushi Toppii Koriyama Asaka Ten

Kaiten Zushi Toppi~ Koriyama Asaka Ten is a chain kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant located along the Inner Ring Road, a 7-minute drive from Asakanagamori Station. They focus on direct delivery from production regions and always stock fresh seafood.

On some days, you can even watch a tuna cutting show. The restaurant has counter and table seating, making it easy to use for a wide range of occasions.

The sushi toppings are thick and satisfying to eat. The maguro (tuna) nigiri, in particular, is said to be a must-try.

They bring in fresh Date Maguro (Date tuna) from Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, and serve it in many styles, from lean akami to chutoro, otoro, aburi, zuke, and tekka-maki. The fat is not too heavy, and the natural good taste of the tuna really stands out.

They also have a good selection of à la carte dishes beyond sushi. The recommended aji fry (fried horse mackerel) is one appealing dish, with a crispy coating and tender flaky fish inside.

Reviews say that enjoying it with the tartar sauce on the side brings out the flavor even more.

The toppings are thick and fresh. It really makes you feel just how good raw fish can be. The negitoro gunkan (battleship sushi with minced tuna), had no odd off notes from the tuna and tasted great. My favorite is the aburi Madai (seared Sea Bream) with yuzu salt, and when you eat it with salt, you can really taste the sweetness of the Sea Bream. It really is delicious! The asari miso soup, had large clams with plenty of good broth coming through, and it was Manpuku.

We were shown to a table seat and ordered on a touch panel. We chose buri (yellowtail), maguro (tuna), aji (horse mackerel), salmon, and ika (squid). Each topping was on the large side and tasted good too. I think I liked the aji best. From the side menu, we also got aji fry and tako no Kara-age (octopus fried chicken). The aji fry was light and tasty! It was also nice that it came with tartar sauce.

The 3-piece set, which lets you enjoy popular toppings all at once, is also well liked, and you can enjoy a combination of maguro (tuna), shimaaji (striped jack), and toro salmon.

Pictured is the namida yamamori negitoro. This dish features hosomaki (thin sushi rolls) filled with kuki wasabi (wasabi stems) marinated in soy sauce and grated wasabi, topped with a generous amount of negitoro (minced tuna with scallions).

The sharp heat of the wasabi and the gentle sweetness of the negitoro come together nicely. It also has a great reputation as the perfect snack to go with drinks.

I ordered the lunch menu "Akatsuki" and several pieces of sushi. I also had Kikufuku for dessert. The fish was rich and fatty, and the sashimi was high quality. The salmon was especially delicious.

The tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), a classic at sushi restaurants, was also really good, and the unique rolls and a la carte dishes that you do not usually get at chain restaurants were tasty too! The avocado roll was especially satisfying. The agedashi nasu (fried eggplant) and nagaimo age (fried Japanese yam) were so carefully made and so delicious they made my eyes go wide.

I’ve been there several times, but this visit tasted the best to me. The squid, oysters, and soft roe were so good that I ordered more. I think I’ll go back again soon.

The photo shows "shime saba shiraita kombu kelp (cured mackerel wrapped in white kombu kelp sheets)." The mackerel is cured with salt and vinegar, then wrapped in soft white kombu kelp. Reviews also praise the generously sized topping and shari (sushi rice) for being satisfyingly filling.

A light sprinkle of salt sharpens the flavor, making it taste even better.

アイラピイ

The classic maguro (tuna). The topping is thick and moist, with a rich umami that makes it highly satisfying. It also has a fatty feel closer to chutoro (medium fatty tuna), so it gets you excited right from the start. The shrimp is plump and has a nice sweetness too, simple but reliably good. And the winner this time was engawa (flounder fin). It had just the right amount of fat, and the umami that spread the moment I bit into it, along with the crunchy texture, was irresistible.

The sushi toppings are quite good. They have toppings from Fukushima as well, but they also offer tasty fish from all over Japan. Their specialty is said to be shime-saba (cured mackerel) with shiraita kombu kelp, so I made sure to try that, along with basashi (horse sashimi) from nearby Aizuwakamatsu. The sardine was especially good, and I ended up ordering two plates. It was very delicious sushi.

All the toppings were delicious, but the donko (black rockfish) from the local Hitachi-mono series was especially incredibly good. I liked the donko so much that I would go back just to eat it again.

まんぷく左衛門

Onahama Port is right nearby, so every piece of sushi is good. Personally, I really liked the shrimp and the local 4-piece assortment (mebaru (rockfish), suzuki (Japanese sea bass), hirame (flounder), aji (horse mackerel)). Aburi mehikari (lightly seared greeneye fish) is pretty unusual too. That's Onahama for you. These days mehikari is available around the Kanto area too, but it is usually Kara-age or tempura. It had a nice sweetness and tasted great.
