Restaurant Kochi

Restaurant Kochi is a restaurant located an 18-minute walk from Okabana Station, along National Route 33, Matsuyama Kaido. Founded in 1970, it is a local favorite with deep roots in the community.

Behind the restaurant is a retention pond called Medaka Ike (killifish pond), with a peaceful view stretching out around it. The relaxed atmosphere makes it a popular spot for families as well.

The signature dish is “Nangoku Tosa no Omurice,” topped with fried bonito. The chicken rice inside is seasoned with Kochi yuzu and ginger from Kochi, giving it a rich flavor.

Another appealing point is that it is served piping hot. The soft egg and tomato sauce mix together well, making it exceptionally good.

The photo shows the "Ryuseki Omurice." It is a memorable dish with a rich, toasty flavor from the egg and the crispy browned rice. The rice is seasoned with chirimen jako (dried young sardines) broth, which brings out its savory taste.

The fresh tomato adds a bright tangy note, and people say it stays enjoyable to the last bite without getting old.

・Nangoku Tosa no Omurice
The egg and crispy scorched rice, served in a hot stone bibimbap style bowl, were fragrant, while the salad and katsuo (bonito) fritter added nice accents, making it fun to enjoy both the flavors and textures.

• Jonman Steak set meal
What sets it apart from the regular steak set meal is that the Jonman version uses more yakumi (condiments). It really did come with a lot of yakumi, including onion, green onion, and oba (perilla leaves), which gave it a very refreshing taste, and the meat was tender and very tasty.

Mamma Tei

Mamma Tei is a cafe near Komura Jinja-mae Station that mainly serves Omurice. Inside, the wood toned interior is lined with table seating, and rock music plays pleasantly in the background.

It is loved by people of all ages, and many local regulars visit as well.

Popular since the restaurant opened in 1992, the "old fashioned Omurice" is a long time favorite. It is a plate of ketchup rice with chicken, onion, and green peas, topped with a soft cooked egg.

The rich tomato sauce ties everything together, making it a simple dish that still delivers a high level of Manzoku.

"Tomato no Kamisama ga Tabeta Omurice (Omurice the Tomato God Ate)" is also a popular menu item. When you cut into the omelet with a knife, the soft egg spreads out, which adds to the appeal.

The soft set egg layers over ketchup rice for a rich taste. It is also said to have a generous buttery flavor.

・Omurice the god of tomatoes ate
It had a rich buttery taste, but it did not feel heavy. It was not exactly light, but it still went down smoothly. The egg was soft and runny, and together with the Omurice and the added ketchup, it was just so good.

I was starving, so I ordered the filling Hey, One Two Omurice. Yep, it was the right call. The Omurice had an omelet cooked with real care, and you could tell from the finish. The person at the next table had ordered the kind of Omurice where you split the soft omelet down the middle and open it up, and that looked beautiful too. The cutlet was fried up nice and crisp, and it was very satisfying to eat.

Tomato Stand

Tomato Stando is a restaurant located a 6-minute walk from Okabana Station, on the grounds of Mura no Eki Hidaka. It mainly serves Omurice made with tomatoes, a local specialty of Hidaka-mura (Hidaka Village).

A key feature is that the rice is cooked with tomato puree. This is a well-regarded spot where you can enjoy the rich flavor of high-sugar tomatoes.

The most popular item is the "Tomato Cheese Omurice." It is finished with a layer of cheese, lightly broiled over a special sauce made with plenty of tomato flesh and juice.

The egg, sauce, and cheese melt together in this rich and savory plate. People say the tomato flavor really comes through, and it is excellent.

The “Curry Cheese Omurice” is another menu item worth checking out. It tops tomato curry with cheese, then lightly broils it until fragrant.

After a medium-spicy kick, the tartness of the tomato spreads across the palate. The rich taste of the cheese goes well with the fresh flavor of the tomato topping.

・Tomato Cheese Omurice
It was so good that I finished it in no time. The tomato sauce itself was delicious, and it went perfectly with the cheese and the Omurice! The price was reasonable too, and if this place were near me, I’d definitely be coming back!

I just stopped by Mura no Eki Hidaka on a whim, and I never expected it to be this good! It was amazing! There’s no place that can top this Omurice. It was so good that I felt like I could never go back to chain restaurants. I was really impressed. The tomato sauce was sweet, packed with dashi (Japanese soup stock), and excellent! The tomato and yuzu (Japanese citrus) ice cream was tasty too.

Treehouse Cafe Perch

Treehouse Cafe Perch is a cafe located about 30 minutes by car from Ino Station, just before Michi no Eki 633 Bi no Sato (Roadside Station 633 Bi no Sato). Its standout feature is a treehouse built in a 200-year-old mukunoki (Aphananthe aspera) tree, set in a space surrounded by nature.

One of its main draws is that you can relax and enjoy your meal while taking in the wide open view.

The standard choice is the "Omurice lunch," which lets you fully enjoy freshly laid eggs from their own free range chickens. The chicken rice is made with Niida-mai (a branded rice from Kochi), according to the restaurant.

This is a plate where you can really taste the quality of the ingredients, with local ingredients used for the side salad and fruit as well.

The "Hamburger Lunch" is also recommended. This filling dish layers thick cut onion, a fried egg, a patty, cheese, and lettuce in soft fluffy buns.

The sauce uses rare honey, which adds a rich sweetness as an accent. Reviews also say it is hearty and highly satisfying.

At this open-air restaurant, I chose an outdoor seat without hesitation. I had the Omurice set and the hamburger set. Both had a very Homemade feel, and I really enjoyed them.

This cafe feels like a secret hideout♫ They even have a book introducing how the shop came to be, so it keeps you excited while waiting for your food. The food is really delicious, and I especially loved the sauce on the Hamburger Steak so much that I wanted to take some home. I’d definitely love to visit again✨
