Oita Prefecture [Beppu City]'s popular conveyor belt sushi restaurants

Kamesho Kurukuru Sushi

Kamesho Kurukuru Sushi is a popular kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant where you can enjoy fresh fish landed in Oita Prefecture. Before opening time, guests write their names on a waiting board.

Inside, the dark brown color scheme gives the space a calm feel, and there are counter and table seats.

You can enjoy premium wild caught branded fish such as Seki-aji (horse mackerel from Saganoseki) and Seki-saba (mackerel from Saganoseki), line caught in the Bungo Suido (Bungo Channel) off Saganoseki in Oita Prefecture.

In any case, the topping pieces are very large, and they are said to be so rich with fat that it is Surprising.

This restaurant uses a system where you order sushi on a tablet and the staff bring it to your table.

The most popular item is the "chutoro (medium fatty tuna)," served with large cuts of fish. It has marbling like well marbled meat and is said to be so good it leaves a lasting impression.

Because this sushi restaurant is so popular, they start taking names from around 7:30 in the morning. This time, we got in at around 15:00. No matter which neta (sushi topping) we chose, each piece was thick and very good. The fugu (pufferfish) was especially delicious.

This time, I ordered the Jo Set. The toppings seem to be sourced from various regions, and the bold, chunky cuts are a standout feature. The yellowtail was rich with fat and delicious, and the shrimp were also quite large and satisfying to eat. Oita specialty ryukyu (marinated sashimi) was fresh as well and highly satisfying.

Katsugyo Kaiten Zushi Suiten Beppu Ishigaki Ten

Katsugyo Kaiten Zushi Suiten Beppu Ishigaki Ten is a sushi restaurant where you can enjoy everything from standard nigiri sushi to seasonal nigiri sushi and à la carte dishes. They offer three kinds of tea—green tea, hojicha (roasted green tea), and genmaicha (brown rice tea)—so you can choose whichever you like.

The interior has an upscale feel, and you can choose either counter seating or table seating.

Suiten uses its own original sushi rice, seasoned with a mildly sweet sushi vinegar chosen to pair well with the toppings. The restaurant is also very particular about its soy sauce and nori (seaweed).

For Bijin Buri (yellowtail), a local fish from Oita, reviews say the topping is large, fresh, and delicious.

At lunchtime, they offer four limited menu sets that pair sushi with kobachi (small side dishes) and soup.

"Yufu," which comes with tempura and udon in addition to sushi, is luxurious and very filling. Guests also like that they can choose the soup.

The 3-piece set labeled “zanmai (assorted)” felt like a great value, with a wide variety including seasonal fish and popular choices like tuna and salmon. The chutoro (medium fatty tuna), nama-dako (fresh octopus), and buri (yellowtail) were especially good! The sushi rice was a little soft and on the large side, and it was disappointing that the grains did not have that distinct texture, but the toppings were solidly tasty and made it clear that fish from the coast really is different!

Most importantly, the sushi is outstanding! The shiromi (white fish), akami (lean tuna), and assortments centered on blue-backed fish all have irresistible texture and sweetness. I also really enjoyed the aka-dashi (red miso soup) and chawanmushi (savory steamed egg custard), both made with great care and full of flavor. Orders are written on paper and handed over. I think it’s best to write out about 2〜3 sheets and hand them over early on.

Sushi Meijin Beppu Tsurumi Ten

Sushi Meijin Beppu Tsurumi Ten is a kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi) restaurant where you can enjoy fresh toppings caught in Oita Prefecture. For nearly 40 years since it first opened, it has been a beloved local spot in Oita.

Inside, there are counter seats and box seats, and you can choose your sushi using a tablet or from the conveyor belt.

They serve neta (sushi toppings) delivered every day at their peak freshness. Their ginshari (glossy cooked rice), made with rice from Oita Prefecture, is prepared with additive-free rice vinegar and natural dashi (Japanese soup stock).

Their kanburi (winter yellowtail), raised with great care starting from the feed, is well reviewed for its firm texture and great taste.

Depending on the day's catch, you may sometimes get to eat freshly caught and freshly prepared aji (horse mackerel), awabi (abalone), and sazae (turban shell) taken right from the fish tank.

Reviews say the live aji sushi and live aji sashimi platter are very fresh and really let you taste the full flavor of the aji.

All the neta (sushi toppings) were fresh, and this was a place where you could really feel the high quality overall. The menu has a wide range, from reasonably priced options to slightly more premium neta, which makes it nice that you can choose based on your mood that day. This time, I focused on quantity and mainly had the more affordable sushi, but everything was consistently good and the level of Manzoku was quite high.

Maybe because it is close to the sea, the sushi toppings were fresh and delicious. The menu was extensive and included some unusual toppings, and there were also items like kushiage (deep-fried skewers) and chicken tempura that you do not usually find at other conveyor-belt sushi chains, so there was a lot to enjoy.

You order the sushi on a tablet. Inside the calm dining room, there are table seats set up like Private rooms, separated by curtains.

Each piece of sushi topping was big and fresh, and I ate a lot. The free miso soup also had a rich dashi flavor and tasted great. The staff had a nice vibe too. It was so relaxed and comfortable that it hardly felt like kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi).

The name Chokaiten Zushi has quite an impact. Instead of plates going around and around, the sushi is brought out on trays modeled after the shinkansen (bullet train). I enjoyed the Sea Bream, horse mackerel, squid, whole conger eel, negitoro (minced tuna with green onion), as well as tempura and other dishes.

Hama Zushi Usa Ten

Hama Zushi Usa Ten is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant about a 5-minute walk from Usa-shi Heiwa Shiryokan (Usa City Peace Museum), known for serving good sushi at reasonable prices with Special care given to the toppings, shari (vinegared sushi rice), and soy sauce.

The interior has a warm wooden feel, and there are two types of seating, counter seats and box seats, with sushi ordered via a touch panel.

For the sushi rice, they use 100% Domestic rice and blend 3 kinds of vinegar. To match each topping, they prepare 4 kinds of soy sauce and ponzu.

They use natural ingredients for the maguro (tuna), and because they thaw it slowly, you can enjoy its rich flavor.

In addition to sushi, they also offer a full lineup of side dishes such as fried items and chawanmushi (savory egg custard). To serve food at its best right after it is made, they focus on in-store preparation, including frying and steaming in the restaurant.

They also have filling menu items such as ramen and udon, which makes it a great fit for families.

KozzyY

What stood out most about the sushi lineup was that many of the toppings had an aburi (seared) option. That was pretty great for me since I’m not a fan of raw fish(ノ≧ڡ≦)Personally, I like that shinko-maki (pickled vegetable roll) and California rolls are always on the menu, and the dessert selection is also quite full, with both Japanese and Western sweets❗(ノ≧ڡ≦)

まさはるキー

In Oita, known as aomono (blue backed fish) kingdom, what really stands out is Seki Aji (horse mackerel from Saganoseki) and Seki Saba (mackerel from Saganoseki), caught in Saganoseki! Raised in fast moving currents, both are firm and muscular with a satisfyingly chewy texture! Be sure to also enjoy ryukyu (Oita style marinated sashimi), a local specialty!

One nice point is that you can easily enjoy Oita specialties like seki-saba (horse mackerel from Seki) and seki-aji (mackerel from Seki) without waiting in line. I think this is just the right kind of place when you want to drop by casually and enjoy local flavors.

As someone who likes unusual sushi toppings more than standard ones, this place was really my kind of spot. The sushi was delicious, and the side menu was also very good. I’ll definitely stop by again.
