[Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture] Restaurants with Great Tempura
Photograph:zzhat0706
Tenshichi is a long-established restaurant founded in 1965, about a 5-minute walk from JR Kannai Station. It is one of the places people choose when they want to enjoy tempura in Yokohama.
The interior has the warmth of wood and soft lighting, creating a calm and relaxing space. They also offer plenty of seating, mainly at the counter.
The photo shows the limited-quantity lunchtime "tenju (tempura rice box)." You can enjoy 2 shrimp, along with kabocha (Japanese pumpkin), squid, white fish, and kakiage (mixed vegetable and seafood tempura fritter).
The light batter, the good flavor of the ingredients, and the mildly sweet sauce are said to go very well together. Served with aka-dashi (red miso soup) and kō no mono (pickles), this is a Manzoku lunch menu.
Photograph:mariannne
They are known for offering a wide variety of courses where you can enjoy excellent tempura made with seafood delivered straight from the market and seasonal vegetables, and people say it is easy to choose one to fit your budget.
The tempura is fried in a blend of Taihaku goma-abura (light sesame oil) and Taiko goma-abura (dark sesame oil), which gives it a crisp, light texture that melts nicely in the mouth. Another nice point is that the courses also include a few à la carte dishes served in between.
ピコンピコン
This restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is very easy to use for business dinners and similar occasions. The sashimi is also good, and for the finishing rice dish you can choose ochazuke (rice with tea or broth poured over it) or one other option. This time, after finishing everything, we ordered soft roe. As expected, soft roe tempura is the best.

You can enjoy Special ingredients served freshly fried by a veteran chef. It could not have tasted better. I tried the specialty umeboshi (pickled plum) tempura and tempura chazuke (tempura over rice with tea broth) for the first time in my life. They were superb! It was a huge personal hit. It made for a wonderful special occasion for us as a couple.

Just a 1-minute walk from the west exit of Yokohama Station, Nihon Ryori Konohana is on the 8th floor of Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel & Towers and offers Private rooms overlooking the garden as well as counter seats where you can enjoy freshly fried tempura.
The interior is quiet and calm, creating a space where you can focus on conversation and a good meal.

The "tempura lunch course," served at the counter, lets you enjoy tempura that the chef fries one piece at a time right in front of you.
Reviews said that both the seafood and vegetables were all lightly fried, and the whiting in particular was tender and left a lasting impression.
Photograph:nya-n148
The “tempura kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal)” is said to let you enjoy ingredients that make the most of the blessings of the season.
The tempura, made with a light thin batter, pairs well with salt, and the tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce) is said to be so good you will want to drink it. It is a highly satisfying menu that lets you enjoy everything through to the finishing tempura Rice bowl and aka-dashi (red miso soup).
netatsukita
The tempura here is light and delicious. I also liked getting advice on whether each piece of tempura goes better with salt or tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce). To finish, you can choose from tendon (tempura Rice bowl), tencha (kakiage chazuke), or tempura and white rice served separately, and I chose the tencha. It was my first time trying kakiage as ochazuke, so it was a new experience. It went down easily and tasted great.

It was my first time visiting, and I was able to enjoy a relaxed meal while listening to the pleasant sound of tempura being fried at the counter. The view of the nakaniwa (inner garden) was also wonderful, and it did not feel like I was in the very middle of Yokohama. The food was also carefully prepared and delicious, so I will definitely come back.

If you’re not sure which tempura to choose, the “Ebi to Kyo-yasai no Tempura Assortment,” which lets you enjoy several kinds of tempura, comes recommended.
It gets good reviews for its light batter that brings out the flavor of the ingredients, and some reviews also say the shrimp are plump and springy while the vegetables have a pronounced sweetness.
You can also order the tempura A la carte.

The Kyoto-style dashi oden (Japanese stew with ingredients simmered in broth) served as the otoshi (table charge appetizer) is, amazingly, All you can eat. A few kinds are served first, and after that, you can order whatever ingredients you like.
The clear broth has a gentle flavor, and the daikon radish in particular is well soaked with the broth and gets great reviews.
Tabasa27196
They also have a wide range of food. The tempura is served freshly fried, crisp, and delicious. It also comes with matcha salt, momiji-oroshi (spicy grated daikon), and dashi broth, so you can enjoy it however you like. The assortment includes one piece of each kind. So if you are sharing with a group, be nice. The daily special cheese tempura was melty and delicious. It was wrapped in prosciutto.

Minato is about a 7-minute walk from Sakuragicho Station in Kanagawa and is a restaurant where you can enjoy tempura and Kansai-fu (Kansai-style) unagi (eel).
The interior has a chic feel while still being casually comfortable, which makes it easy to use for many occasions. Semi-private room are also available.

The tempura made with seasonal ingredients is said to have a light texture that you can only enjoy fresh from the fryer.
There is also a wide variety of seasonings, including salt, tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce), and wasabi, along with other yakumi (condiments). The natural sweetness of the ingredients comes through clearly, and many people enjoy it with Japanese sake.

They use unagi (eel) from Isshiki, Aichi.
Many people also say it is rare to be able to enjoy Kansai-style jiyaki unagi (direct-grilled eel) while in Yokohama, Kanagawa. The shirayaki (plain grilled eel) is said to have a nice contrast between the fragrant outside and the tender flesh.
Satoshi.foodie
I had the 3-piece tempura Omakase, and every item, the shrimp, soft roe, and anago (conger eel), had a light batter that really let the flavor of the ingredients come through, and it was all very delicious. The soft roe in particular left a strong impression, with a great balance of creamy texture and toasty flavor. It was a lovely restaurant where I could enjoy carefully fried tempura in a calm atmosphere.

カボチャ party night
The vegetable tempura was really delicious! I was also amazed by how juicy the chicken breast was. It was a kind of tempura with almost no greasy feel at all. Since they fry each order one by one, it takes a little time. You should definitely order the recommended soft-boiled egg tempura. Or go for the soft-boiled egg tempura Rice bowl on the rice menu. I had both.

The photo shows the tempura from the lunch “Sushi x Tempura Course Kaede.” They adjust the cooking for each ingredient, and the batter is said to be light and crisp.
Reviews especially praise the unagi (eel) tempura, saying it is fragrant on the outside and soft and tender inside.

In the course, you can enjoy sushi and steamed dishes in addition to tempura, and each seasonal plate is said to be beautifully put together.
The chutoro (medium fatty tuna) in particular is said to have an excellent balance of rich fat and sushi rice seasoned with akazu (red vinegar), showing the quality of both the ingredients and the technique. It is said to be a course where you can fully enjoy the appeal of Japanese cuisine in Kanagawa.
The tempura, carefully fried by the chefs right across the counter, has a light, crisp batter that lets you really taste the natural sweetness of the ingredients. The sushi also shows careful craftsmanship in each piece, and the chutoro (medium fatty tuna) was especially melt-in-your-mouth good. The service struck a comfortable balance without feeling too close, making this a place you would want to visit again on a Special day.

We had the upper tempura course. Before the main tempura, they served items like zuwai-gani (snow crab) in vinegar and chawanmushi (savory egg custard), and each dish was carefully made and delicious! The main tempura had a light, crispy batter, so it did not feel heavy at all. The natural flavors of the ingredients really came through, and we enjoyed it with tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce) and salt. The chef's skill really showed, and we left very satisfied.

The Japanese sake tasting set is a great option with the nice flexibility of choosing the labels you like.
You pick two yourself, and choose the other from the staff's recommendation, and they also explain each one carefully. It is recommended for people who want to enjoy different kinds of Japanese sake together with tempura and oden (Japanese stew dishes).
横浜紳士
This is a great place with a good balance of food, drinks, and prices, and the staff are lively and friendly. As the name suggests, you can order both tempura and oden (Japanese one-pot dish) from just one piece, and the tempura is especially fun because they serve it freshly fried and crispy. Enjoy it with tentsuyu (tempura dipping sauce), several kinds of salt, or whatever way you like. It’s perfect when you want to enjoy drinks with tempura on an easy-on-the-wallet budget.

I visited with a reservation on a day off. There are also Private room options, and if it is not crowded, they do not set a time limit for your seat, so you can relax and enjoy your time. The highballs are large and cheap, so I would like to come back. You can order tempura not only as an assortment but also A la carte. They also have some unusual items, which makes it fun.

Photograph:中野 シャルマン 一央
The sashimi assortment is popular because you can enjoy a variety of seasonal fresh fish little by little, and the thick cut lean tuna is said to have a deep, rich flavor that grows with each bite.
The Sea Bream has just the right firmness and a refined sweetness, showing off its freshness in every bite. It also pairs well with local sake selected by a kikizakeshi (sake sommelier).
もちちゃん8888
We toasted with beer and ordered snacks that seemed perfect with Japanese sake, including tempura, sanma (Pacific saury), and ankimo ponzu (monkfish liver with ponzu sauce). The tempura was reliably good. The shiitake mushrooms in particular were insanely delicious. The ankimo was also nice, and the sanma was wonderfully rich with fat. The sanma innards also paired well with Japanese sake.

For the tempura, there was kuruma ebi (Japanese tiger prawn) tempura, one of my absolute favorites... I could tell from the first bite that it was kuruma ebi tempura. It was my first time trying avocado tempura, and the avocado inside was soft and delicious too.

The more it simmers, the stronger the flavor becomes, and the melted kani miso (crab tomalley) seems to make the soup even richer. The course also includes tempura.

I visited for a Banquet. An All you can drink plan. I had not been back for a while since the reception. The fish shabu-shabu used the head and bones for the broth, and we swished the fish meat in it. We ate it with ponzu sauce. It was plump and delicious. For the tempura, I enjoyed eggplant, kisu (Japanese whiting), and shrimp with salt. The udon made with the broth from the shabu-shabu Hot Pot was also delicious.

Last time, I made a reservation so my son could try mugi tororo (barley rice with grated yam). This time, I wanted him to experience freshly fried tempura, so we chose the tempura and sashimi All you can eat course. It was busier than last time, and I got the sense that word is starting to spread. Everything at the buffet had a health conscious feel and was satisfying. We were happy with the freshly fried tempura, and the sashimi was not cut too thin, so we enjoyed that too.

They also have a Gozen set topped with small kobachi (small side dishes) that you can serve yourself little by little, so it was nice to be able to take just a small amount of what I wanted, and it looked beautiful too. As for the sashimi, whenever it ran out, the staff quickly checked in with me, and I really appreciated the very polite service.
