"Izakaya Moeta Urameshiya Akabane" is a stylish Japanese modern izakaya tucked away in a back alley of the shopping street, about a 3-minute walk from JR Akabane Station, and it is popular for its otoshi (table appetizer) of motsu nikomi (stewed offal), which comes with free refills.
Many reviews say that every dish is delicious and that the thoughtful presentation is a nice touch. Since it is a popular spot, it is best to make a reservation before visiting, especially on weekends.

The popular salmon rare katsu features thick cuts of salmon fried in a crisp coating, and some say the rare doneness is just right.
The shibazuke (pickled eggplant, cucumber, and perilla) tartar sauce topped with ikura (salmon roe) has a nice level of acidity that keeps it light and easy to eat.
The dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet with dashi broth) topped with ikura (salmon roe) is said to be a must order dish when you visit this restaurant.
The fluffy dashimaki has a rich dashi flavor, and the generous topping of ikura adds a nice accent.

A popular izakaya in Akabane. It is located a little away from Akabane Ichibangai. It is so popular that reservations are a must on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The most popular items here are salmon cutlet, dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet), and Beef Tongue, and amazingly, refills of the complimentary motsuni (stewed offal) appetizer are free. This is a place I would like to come back to. It was great.

Akabane is known for its many unpretentious izakaya (Japanese pubs), but Urame-shiya stands out even among them for balancing entertainment and great food. Even people who walk in because the name caught their eye are sure to be surprised by how good the food is and how nice the atmosphere feels! This is a great place for a night when you want to enjoy a slightly different kind of izakaya experience.

"Sato Shoten" is an izakaya where you can enjoy Hakata meibutsu (local specialty) motsu-nabe (offal hot pot) and kushiyaki (grilled skewers). It is a 3-minute walk from JR Akabane Station. Popular for its spacious interior with 50 seats, it offers a relaxed dining experience.
The drink menu is extensive, with highballs as a house specialty, along with Japanese sake, shochu, beer, and makgeolli.

The popular Hakata motsu-nabe (Hakata offal Hot Pot) comes in miso, soy sauce, or salt flavor. The photo shows the “Wagyu motsu-nabe Mentaishio Butter,” topped with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and butter.
You can order the motsu-nabe from 1人前, and you can also add more motsu and vegetables. After finishing the Hot Pot, you can enjoy the remaining soup with zosui (rice porridge), udon, or Korean noodles as the finishing dish.
Speaking of Hakata kushiyaki (grilled skewers), the specialty is the pork belly skewer in the photo. Enjoy it with yuzu kosho (citrus chili paste), house-made miso, or ponzu sauce.
Another Hakata kushiyaki specialty is butamaki (vegetables wrapped in pork belly), which comes in many varieties such as king oyster mushroom and asparagus. Of course, they also offer a wide range of chicken skewers.

・Flavor-selectable Wagyu motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot)
The soy sauce base has a pretty good kick from the chili peppers, so it is a little spicy. The motsu seemed to be lightly seared, which gave it a really nice toasty aroma. I think that extra step makes a big difference. It was loaded with a wide variety of ingredients: tofu, enoki mushrooms, pork, cabbage, garlic chives, burdock root, fried tofu, and tofu.

Just like the name suggests, they have all kinds of yakiton (grilled pork skewers) and motsu (offal), fit for a king. The skewers are as cheap as 50円 each, basically dagashi-level snack prices that, if you think about it, an elementary school kid could buy for an after-school treat. But since we’re adults, of course we pair them with alcohol. I knocked back a highball and left feeling great. This was exactly the right kind of place for a bar-hopping night in Akabane.

Mahoroba Sakaba is an izakaya where you can enjoy mujoka saba (mackerel branded in Kagoshima Prefecture) dishes made with mackerel from Kagoshima Prefecture, as well as chicken dishes made with Daisendori from Tottori Prefecture.
For Japanese sake, they offer labels from all over Japan selected to pair well with the food, and they change the lineup with the seasons.

The photo shows the raw saba sashimi made with Mujoka Saba, and Mujoka Saba is farmed mackerel raised in bacteria-free tanks, with fat content that stays consistent all year round.
They offer raw saba sashimi and aburi, as well as shime-saba (cured mackerel) sashimi and aburi.

Instead of serving yakitori (grilled chicken) on skewers, they grill it in loose pieces, so it cooks evenly. The photo shows the “Yakitori Mix assortment.” They have Daisendori chicken shipped directly from Tottori Prefecture.
“Chicken Seseri Nanban Tartare,” made with seseri (neck meat) from the chicken, is also said to be a popular dish.

They have a wide selection of Japanese sake, which made the drinks go down easy. It is also nice that the restaurant is close to the station. The beer was especially good, and the thin beer glass made it feel even smoother on the palate. The shirareba (white liver) yakitori was also outstanding and tasted amazing. This time I sat on the second floor, and I really liked its small, calm atmosphere.

The restaurant has mostly counter seating on the first floor and mostly table seating on the second floor. We ordered shime-saba (cured mackerel), nama-saba (raw mackerel), and mentaiko (spicy cod roe) stone pot bibimbap. Everything was excellent, and the prices were easy on the wallet for the level of quality. The staff were all friendly and efficient. Their attention to detail was also great, and it is a place I would like to visit again.

Wara to An COHARU is an izakaya known for its signature katsuo (bonito) no warayaki (straw-seared bonito), made with bonito shipped directly from Kochi.
At the U-shaped counter, you can enjoy your meal while watching the chefs prepare the straw-seared dishes. Reviews say the staff are cheerful and the atmosphere is bright and fun.

The "Kochi Chokusou Katsuo no Shio Tataki (salt seared bonito shipped direct from Kochi)" has a great reputation for its freshness, and for the skin, fragrant with the aroma of straw, being nicely toasted and tasty.
It is enjoyed with plenty of yakumi (condiments) on the side, dipped in either lemon salt or green chili garlic chive ponzu sauce.
Photograph:yamada1973
The "Meibutsu (house specialty) Gyoza 4-shu assortment" lets you enjoy four kinds of pan-fried gyoza on one plate: Kagoshima kurobuta (Berkshire pork) with beef tendon, lamb spice, oyajidori (mature chicken) with jalapeño cheese, and shrimp with shiso (perilla leaf).
Each one is packed with filling, so you can enjoy the different flavors. They are all said to be easy to eat, with no distinctive flavor.

The food was very good, and I could feel the care and thought that went into each dish, which made me happy with every bite. The owner was also very cheerful and welcoming, and the conversation was enjoyable, with a warmth that felt like being invited into an acquaintance’s home. I was able to enjoy both delicious food and a comfortable atmosphere, and it was a very Manzoku time.

All the staff were friendly, and although it seemed like they had many regulars who knew the place well, the atmosphere made it easy to feel comfortable even on a first visit. Watching the cooking was exciting, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was great, so this became a strong candidate for a place I’d visit again and again!

Kairi is an izakaya where you can enjoy unique creative dishes such as "beef stew tempura" and "Akabane gyoza (dumplings)".
Inside, tables with horigotatsu (sunken-floor seating) create a warm atmosphere that feels like coming home to your family house.
Photograph:satoy428
The signature "beef stew tempura" is a dish made by putting beef stew inside atsuage (thick-fried tofu), coating it in tempura batter, and deep-frying it.
From inside the crisp coating, piping hot, rich beef stew flows out. Reviews also said this is a must-order dish you can only try at this restaurant.

The cute red "Akabane Gyoza" uses tomato moisture instead of water to make the wrapper. The filling is chicken thigh and cabbage.
It is good even on its own, and it is also said to be tasty with the original miso tare (miso-based dipping sauce).

No matter what you order, this is the kind of place where you can feel the care and creativity of the people making the food. And of course, it all tastes great. They have lots of original dishes, and I heard their specialties include a rolled dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet) with bread inside it (I think it had a name like an upside-down egg sandwich), beef stew tempura, and Akabane gyoza (dumplings). Everything was delicious. The roast pork is also recommended.

Kandokoro, conveniently located just a 3-minute walk from JR Akabane Station, is an izakaya (Japanese pub) popular for its uniquely presented and fresh sashimi.
Many reviews say they have a wide selection of Japanese sake that pairs well with the food.

The "Kandokoro Zettai assortment" is a popular menu item with a lavish look, featuring 10 kinds of sashimi arranged on a spiral staircase.
The contents depend on what comes in that day, but it mainly centers on wild caught fish such as ainame (greenling), mebaru (rockfish), and kinmedai (golden eye snapper), and the photo shows a serving for 2 people.

The house specialty, basashi (horse meat sashimi), is shipped directly from Kumamoto Prefecture, known as Japan's top production region for horse meat. It is enjoyed with a slightly sweet special soy sauce.
The lean meat in the photo is tender and packed with flavor. You can also enjoy a range of other cuts, including marbled meat, koune (brisket area), and futaego (part of the belly).
Lovelytaste
The sashimi was excellent. I also enjoyed the very wide selection of Japanese sake. I was surprised to find a place like this in Akabane, and I would definitely love to visit again. Since seafood is clearly their specialty, it felt like the menu had a lot of seafood dishes as well. If you want to enjoy Japanese sake and fish at a stylish spot in Akabane, definitely give it a try.

One nice point is that you can enjoy staples like sashimi, tempura, and more with confidence. Another plus is the lineup of Japanese sake, which is selected with a connoisseur’s taste and keeps things interesting.

As soon as you walk in, you hear the staff's lively voices, and the place has a bright atmosphere. The negima (chicken and scallion skewer) was grilled just right, and I could really taste the flavor of the meat. The drinks came quickly too, which kept things moving at a nice pace. This is a great spot when you want to grab a quick drink in Akabane.
