Popular izakaya (Japanese pubs) in Yamanashi Prefecture [Kofu Station Area, Kofu City]
Nishiki-dori, southeast of Kofu Station, is a popular area packed with restaurants and izakaya (Japanese pubs). It is also known as “central Kofu.”
The seafood izakaya on Nishiki-dori is Uoya Chikara. The interior has a Japanese modern design and a calm atmosphere.
Photograph:hannmnnna
At Sakana-ya Chikara, you can enjoy dishes made with seafood delivered directly from Toyosu Shijo (Toyosu Market). The photo shows their signature item, the “6-kind sashimi assortment.”
The thick-cut sashimi has a plump, springy texture and is said to be very satisfying to eat.
Photograph:ramo-san
The rice dishes are cooked only after you order, so the flavor of the ingredients soaks into the rice, making them perfect to finish off a night of drinking.
They take 30~40 minutes to prepare, so it is best to order early.
いなとし0905
Everything was really delicious, but I especially loved the freshness and volume of the sashimi assortment, the grilled shiitake mushrooms, the saba rakkyo (mackerel with pickled shallots), and the crab meat and ikura (salmon roe)! The lineup of Japanese sake was also extensive, and I left Manzoku. The hospitality totally lived up to its Izakaya Koshien championship...I’ll definitely be back!

My personal recommendations are the shime-saba (cured mackerel), which they finish by searing right at your table, and the homemade cream tofu. Honey is drizzled over the salty cream cheese, and the sweet-salty balance is just right, so you could keep eating it forever with the baguette served on the side.

The photo shows "Maguro no hirekama-yaki" made with nagasaki (Nagasaki) tuna. The grilled collar and fin came out nicely cooked and flaky, with a fragrant surface and rich yet refined fat, according to reviews.
They also offer local sake from Yamanashi Prefecture that pairs well with the food, along with famous sake from around Japan.

The "Tokudai Shiitake-yaki" made with extra-large shiitake mushrooms from Yamanashi Prefecture has a bold and striking look. The rich flavor of the thick shiitake mushroom and the taste of soy sauce make a great combination.
Menu items made with seasonal vegetables, such as the "Pari Pari Piiman (crispy green peppers)," are also popular.

The fish and vegetables were all very good. The kamameshi (iron pot rice) was excellent too. More than anything, though, the staff’s care, attentiveness, and cheerful attitude made this place great. It was the kind of place that makes you want to come back here and nowhere else.

The sashimi assortment was unbelievably good. I can see how the taste changes depending on who cuts it. The plating was very beautiful too. The tuna was so good it almost tasted like beef. The salad went really well with the nice roasted aroma of the nuts. I could not quite tell the size from the photo, but the shiitake (shiitake mushroom) was huge.

The photo shows the local specialty “tori motsuni (simmered chicken offal).” This signature dish lets you enjoy various parts of chicken offal, including gizzard, Heart, liver, and kinkan (immature egg yolks).
Each part offers a different texture, and the rich seasoning makes the drinks go down easy.

At this restaurant, you can try a variety of specialty products from Yamanashi Prefecture. The basashi (horse sashimi) in the photo is said to have no off notes, letting you fully enjoy the light taste unique to horse meat.
Specialty dishes such as "Koshu Meibutsu Awabi Nigai (Koshu-style simmered abalone)" and "Koshu Yama-kurage Kimchi (Koshu mountain jellyfish kimchi)" are also popular.
しまだ0914
They have a great selection of Yamanashi local sake, and every one looked appealing. I went ahead and ordered the abalone, and it paired amazingly well with Yamanashi white wine. What impressed me most was the tori no motsuni (chicken giblet stew), which is carefully prepared after you order. Paired with red wine, its rich flavor stood out even more, making it a truly blissful dish. It was a night of great food and drinks, and I left Manzoku.

It was a restaurant with a really nice atmosphere. The basashi (horse sashimi), aigamo (duck), and local dishes were all delicious! There is nothing better than eating great local food! The Japanese sake was also good, whether sweet or dry! I also enjoyed the wine, and Nakanaka tasty. I would love to come to Yamanashi again.

Yakitori Torisho is an izakaya (Japanese pub) located about 15 minutes by car from Kofu Station. The interior has calm lighting and a comfortable feel that makes time seem to pass slowly.
In addition to yakitori and local specialty dishes, you can also enjoy Yamanashi-produced Japanese sake and wine.
Photograph:kym3999
The popular “yakitori assortment” comes in three options: 5-skewer assortment, 10-skewer assortment, and 15-skewer assortment. The grilling is just right, bringing out the savory aroma and juicy texture of the chicken.
You can also enjoy Shingen-dori Kushi (skewers made with Shingen chicken), prepared from chickens raised on feed that includes the natural sweetener “trehalose.”
Photograph:あべろぐ
If you like Japanese sake, the “Junmai Ginjo-shu Kikizake Set” is a good choice. Junmai ginjo-shu (premium sake made with rice, koji, and water) is known for its bright, fruity aroma and rich rice flavor.
They all have a clean finish and go down very easily, from what people say.
ウハウハボンバー
Yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is the best! They decorated the tsukune (chicken meatball skewer) with egg and nori (seaweed) to make a smiling face, so I was really happy that I could enjoy both how it looked and how it tasted. On top of that, they even gave me umeboshi (pickled plum) cucumber as a service, and I was touched by their thoughtfulness. The staff were also very kind, and it was a wonderful shop with a warm atmosphere.

This place was a great find! Every yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) was cooked perfectly and tasted great! The liver in particular was amazing! The maguro-butsu (chunked tuna sashimi) was also excellent, and the takoyaki (octopus balls) was surprisingly good and something I'd love to eat again. The staff were also very pleasant, and I'll definitely be back!

Located about a 10-minute walk from Kofu Station, Ginza Edoya is an izakaya (Japanese pub) in the Kofu Kasugamoru Ginza-dori Shotengai (Kofu Kasugamoru Ginza Street shopping arcade), and it is a historic place said to have been in business for 100 years.
Inside, the warmth of wood creates a cozy, homey atmosphere.
The photo shows houtou (Yamanashi-style noodle stew), a soul food from Yamanashi Prefecture. The sweetness of the root vegetables melts into the miso, giving it a warm, comforting taste.
They also offer "Inobuta Houtou" made with inobuta (wild boar-pig cross), as well as "Hiyashi Houtou," which is recommended for hot days.
Photograph:ガイソー食べスギちゃん
The photo shows the dojo-nabe (loach Hot Pot) made with domestically sourced loach. The mild tasting loach goes very well with the sweet and savory warishita sauce and mellow egg.
The "Kai no Subete" set, which comes with dojo-nabe and basashi (horse sashimi), is also popular.
We used the raised zashiki (tatami seating) area at the back of the first-floor counter with a group of 5. The interior had a nice old-world feel, and the counter and table seats were clean as well. There was background music playing, but the atmosphere was calm overall, and the food was good, leaving us very Manzoku. There was also a wide variety of drinks and dishes, and the snack-style menu felt especially extensive.

We started with beer, then moved on to Japanese sake. The salad and fried chicken tenderloins came out at just the right time, and the beer went down easy. The chicken sashimi also had a nice level of searing, and the dipping sauce was tasty too. That really called for Japanese sake after all, and the Japanese sake was very good as well.

We ordered the course, and it also came with dashimaki tamago (Japanese rolled omelet), chicken nanban, and Chicken sashimi (served raw)! There was sesame oil on the table, which made it nice to change up the flavor. What stayed with me most were the dashimaki tamago and the Chicken sashimi. The dashimaki tamago had a nice dashi flavor and was soft and fluffy! It had a gentle taste (^^) The Chicken sashimi was plump and tender, and it was topped with ikura (salmon roe).

I often visit both with a large group and on my own. I usually go for the All you can drink and course meal options, and they even serve one nikudofu (meat and tofu stew) per person, so the food is always good and I always leave very Manzoku. The Shusse Highball keeps the same price from the second glass on, but the amount gets bigger. They also serve shochu for Hoppy and similar drinks in about a 1/4 bottle. That's a good deal. The food ranges widely from classics to creative dishes, so it never gets boring. I ordered the Tamafuya-yaki. You light the solid fuel on the tabletop burner and wait. It’s close to the station, so it’s perfect when you want to head back toward Tokyo right away. Still, I ended up staying much longer than planned. Even the otoshi (small appetizer) was yudofu (hot tofu), which was great. The drinks and food are also great and affordable. It included 8 dishes such as beef steak, an assorted sashimi platter with fresh oysters, tempura, and kaisen-nabe (seafood Hot Pot). They stock more than 30 kinds of Japanese sake sourced from all over Japan, ranging from sweet to dry.
ゆーちゃん大好き
The Semi-private room was comfortable, and I could relax without worrying about the people next to me. The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) may have taken a while to come out, perhaps because they were grilled with care, but I enjoyed them and they tasted great. There was also a good variety of Japanese sake, and I asked the staff for a recommendation before ordering. It was very easy to drink and quite good. I would like to visit again.

The otoshi (small appetizer) came with an impressive sashimi platter! The yakitori was also really good, and in our family, the most popular were the 'Heart' and 'liver'! The fried rice and oyako-don (chicken and egg rice bowl) were both really tasty too, and we left very satisfied! It is also a nice plus that the rice dishes are good! There were several desserts To finish, and the ice cream was especially nice because you could choose 2 kinds, with lots of flavors available!

Hamayaki (grilled seafood at your table) cooked on a tabletop grill is popular here. The seafood is fresh enough to eat as sashimi (raw fish), and when grilled, the flavor gets concentrated and turns into an addictive kind of good.
It’s nice that you can cook it just the way you like.

The izakaya menu with plenty of vegetable dishes is also extensive. They also have set meal options that are great for anyone who wants a hearty meal, including rice dishes.
There were also reviews saying the seasonal recommended dishes and Japanese sake are excellent.
映えより質!
We mainly ordered grilled items cooked over a wire mesh. We had a great time drinking and chatting while slowly grilling everything. The grilled squid, which was also great last time, was a must! It was my first time ordering the kani miso (crab tomalley) salad, and it was rich and tasty. We finished with ochazuke (rice in tea broth). For family drinking get-togethers, this is the only place for us!!!

ゆきみ.
This is an izakaya centered on seafood. You can enjoy the day’s fresh sashimi (sliced raw fish). It seems to be open from lunchtime. The fresh oysters were also delicious, and the drinks were great too.

Popular Izakaya in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture
Photograph:まめこ*
Fujiyoshida City in Yamanashi Prefecture is a popular area where you can enjoy views of Mount Fuji from anywhere in the city. One popular izakaya in Fujiyoshida City is Sakigake Honten.
The interior, renovated from a 100-year-old kominka (traditional Japanese house), has a lovely nostalgic feel.
Photograph:ばなごりちゃん
At Sakigake Honten, you can enjoy dishes made with seasonal sansai (mountain vegetables) from the foothills of Mt. Fuji and fresh seafood brought in from around Japan.
Many reviews said you can enjoy your meal with beautiful seasonal views, from weeping cherry blossoms in spring to winter illuminations.

Meat dishes such as basashi (horse sashimi) and grilled skewers are also popular. The makimono (rolled skewers) made with pork belly from Fuji Sakura Pork offer a choice of more than 20 different menu items.
They also have a wide selection of local sake carefully chosen from across Japan, with more than 50 kinds available.
ひらたけ62
The interior is incredibly stylish and exactly my kind of place. The windows and entrance are left open, and the night breeze feels great! There’s mosquito coil incense burning at the entrance, which somehow reminds me of my grandma’s house. We ordered basashi (horse sashimi), negi miso cream cheese, carpaccio, and some kushiyaki (grilled skewers). Everything we tried was top marks. Eating the kushiyaki with the spicy miso that comes with it is a must!

The restaurant is set in a charming kominka (traditional Japanese house)-style building like in the photo, and the lighting has a really nice feel to it ^_^ The menu has that carefully put together izakaya style, and they also have a wide selection of sashimi (sliced raw fish)!! These days, distribution is solid even in mountain areas ^_^ What I especially liked was how good the regular Kara-age was!! Lately, I’ve been thinking that rice flour batter is really tasty.

Popular izakaya in Chuo, Yamanashi
Photograph:soutaそーた
Chuo City, located almost in the center of Yamanashi Prefecture, is an area blessed with abundant nature. Rakusho Sakaba Nonbee is an izakaya in Chuo City where you can enjoy genshiyaki (primitive style charcoal grilling) and obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking).
The interior has chic decor and a calm atmosphere.
Photograph:soutaそーた
The robatayaki-style "Otoro Iwashi (extra-fat sardine)" is one of the restaurant's signature dishes. They slowly grill rich, fatty sardines from Tokachi over charcoal.
Many reviews said the surface was very fragrant and tasted absolutely amazing.
Photograph:e43c7922887
There are also plenty of izakaya dishes that pair well with drinks. In particular, the "shio-dori (salt-seasoned chicken)," known for its tender texture that falls apart in your mouth, and the "obanzai (Kyoto-style home cooking) 4-kind platter" are popular.
You can also enjoy Japanese sake brought in in small, drinkable quantities, as well as limited-time cocktails.
The robatayaki (charcoal hearth grilling) and the Sea Bream rice cooked in a kama (iron pot) to finish the meal are excellent! They also have drinks from various production regions, so you can enjoy trying different kinds! There were families there too, so I think kids can enjoy it as well! They even have ice cream and such! Not only the master, but all the staff were very nice, which was great! The interior is stylish too

I’ve been to all kinds of izakaya (Japanese pubs), but I think this one is the best! The atmosphere is great too! It’s easy to visit even on your own, so I come here pretty often! I couldn’t wait to eat the recommended iwashi (sardine), so I forgot to take a photo and ate it first! It’s that good!

It was near my hotel, so I visited! The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) was delicious! I was traveling solo, so I was glad I could relax and take it easy at the counter! It was my first time trying houtou (thick noodle hot pot), and it was different from udon and very tasty!
