The recommended yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) uses male Kuro-Satsuma-dori from Kagoshima Prefecture, known for its rich umami, and Daisendori from Tottori Prefecture.
They prepare everything with great care from the prep stage, and it also pairs perfectly with the sauce that has been added to over many years and the gently flavored sea salt.

You can enjoy the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) as an Omakase course chosen by the owner, and you can also order additional items à la carte.
The course also includes carefully crafted specialty dishes that let you enjoy seasonal flavors, and you can savor pairings with wine and other drinks.
royiscute
It was a lovely yakitori restaurant with a great atmosphere right from the entrance. Every skewer had firm, tightly packed meat with really impressive bite! The à la carte dishes were creative too, and I still remember things like the fresh spring rolls that came out—they were very good as well.

The way the skewers are grilled is a real spectacle, and you can enjoy a master's skill that brings out the full flavor of each ingredient. The skin is crisp, while the inside stays juicy. The balance of tare (sweet soy-based sauce) and salt is spot on, and with every bite you can feel the chef's care. If you love yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), this is definitely a place worth visiting.

Toribancho Ueno Showadori Ten is a restaurant where you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) cooked over a shichirin (small charcoal grill), served without the skewers. It is located a 3-minute walk from Naka-Okachimachi Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
Reviews also say the retro atmosphere is part of the appeal, with guests sitting on pipe chairs and enjoying drinks in front of the shichirin, giving the place a feel of old Japan that makes you want to drop in on a whim.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) here are cooked by guests themselves on a shichirin (small charcoal grill) set at the table. The aroma of charcoal is sure to whet your appetite and go perfectly with drinks.
The grilled chicken is said to be tender across the board, and it gets high marks for its juicy texture.

If you visit with a group, the popular signature dish "tori maruyaki (whole roasted chicken)" is also recommended and great for sharing. They recommend reserving it in advance.
It is slowly roasted for a full hour in a special roaster, and they say the crisp skin and moist meat inside are irresistible.

By request of my younger daughter, we went for yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). That said, this place does it in a yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) style, grilling it over a shichirin (charcoal brazier). We grilled fresh, plump cuts of chicken like thigh and Heart over the shichirin until crisp. They also have the full range of izakaya menu items, and all of them are fairly good value. Chicken yakiniku is nice once in a while too. It was a great meal.

Jidoriya Goku Ueno Ten is about a 5-minute walk from JR Okachimachi Station. This jidori (local chicken) specialty restaurant has been serving charcoal-grilled yakitori and creative chicken dishes in Ueno for 12 years.
The interior is said to have a calm atmosphere away from the bustle of the city. It also has Private rooms for small groups, making it a great choice when you want to relax without worrying about the people around you.

The yakitori uses exceptionally fresh chicken sourced from a Tsukiji wholesaler founded in 1902. Skilled chefs prepare the chicken that was butchered that very morning and grill it to perfection.
They are said to put care into every step and ingredient, from the carefully chosen binchotan (high-grade charcoal) to the salt and tare sauce that bring out the flavor of the meat. The "Tsukimi Tsukune" is also said to be one of the popular dishes.

The “Torokeru Reba (melting liver)” is said to be good even for people who do not like liver. Many reviews also say it is excellent.
They pay close attention to freshness and how it is cooked, and instead of the dry, crumbly texture liver often has, it is known for its rich, smooth texture.

Every yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) was so good that I polished it all off in no time! I had a counter seat, so it was nice to watch them grill everything right in front of me! The side dishes were all tasty too, and I also liked the restaurant's calm atmosphere!

The restaurant is in Ueno’s lively area, but the interior is calm, so you can take your time and enjoy authentic sumibi-yakitori (charcoal-grilled chicken skewers). The yakitori in particular was cooked just right and nicely fragrant, and I could really taste the good flavor of the chicken. I also saw many reviews saying the liver and tsukimi tsukune (chicken meatball with egg yolk) are delicious, so I’d definitely like to try them next time.

Saga Fumoto Akadori Sakaba Takashina Akihabara Ten is an izakaya where you can enjoy yakitori made with Saga Fumoto Akadori (Saga branded chicken), along with dishes full of the appeal of Saga.
The interior is styled after a "taishu sakaba (casual Japanese pub)," with a lively and energetic atmosphere. The restaurant is a 4-minute walk from Akihabara Station and also within walking distance of Okachimachi Station.
For its yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), the restaurant uses Fumoto Akadori, a branded chicken raised in Mitsuse-mura, Saga Prefecture. The chicken is delivered fresh from the area every morning, so you can enjoy it at peak freshness.
The yakitori, carefully skewered and grilled over charcoal, has just the right doneness and is well loved for how good every skewer tastes.

They also offer a wide range of skewers made with rare cuts, such as tori-toro (a cut from the base of the chicken shoulder) and harami (diaphragm).
The photo shows "sot-l'y-laisse," made from the part at the base of the chicken thigh. It has a firm bite and rich flavor, making it a satisfying, Manzoku-worthy taste.

A yakitori restaurant with a Saga theme. Centered around a charcoal grill, the place has a lively atmosphere and a great vibe. The service feels very much like a classic izakaya, but the staff are always paying attention to what is going on around them, and their care is excellent. The food, especially the yakitori, is all very good, and the prices are not that high, so it feels like an easy place to visit.

Since the seating is at the counter, you can watch the food being grilled right in front of you, which really whets your appetite. The dishes come out quickly, and every one of them is unbelievably good. The serving style was also a first for me: they place a piece of charcoal into a brick, so you can keep eating warm yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) the whole time. I was impressed by the care and creativity behind it. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff are all so kind that it makes you want to stay forever.

Torinoichi Ueno Honten is located between Okachimachi Station and Ueno Station, and guests can enjoy sumibiyaki (charcoal grilled) yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made with branded chicken in a Japanese modern interior.
It has table-seat Private rooms and horigotatsu-style Private rooms with Sunken kotatsu seating for groups from 2 up to 80 people, as well as counter seats where you can watch the cooking.
The specialty at this restaurant is its highly original yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), made by a former French chef using branded chicken from production regions across Japan.
They focus on cooking methods that bring out the full flavor of the chicken, and diners say you can also taste the delicate seasoning. In addition to the classics, they also offer a selection of rare cuts.
For those who want to enjoy a well-balanced meal, the vegetable skewers starring high-quality vegetables are also recommended.
The nasu (eggplant) is juicy and tender, while the mini tomato is said to offer concentrated sweetness and a texture that bursts in your mouth.

This restaurant lets you enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made by a chef who originally trained in French cuisine, and each skewer is carefully prepared and very tasty. The yakitori comes in two kinds, Jiyo-dori (free-range chicken) and Nagoya Cochin, and they also offer vegetable skewers and snacks that pair well with drinks. Even though the yakitori is great, the prices are reasonable, so this is a recommended spot for yakitori lovers.

Every skewer carefully grilled over charcoal is excellent, and the must-order items are especially reba (liver) and tsukune (chicken meatball skewer). The reba has no off notes and a melt-in-your-mouth texture, while the tsukune is light and tender, coated in a rich sauce that makes you want another one. The drinks selection is also strong, with plenty of local sake from around Japan, and another draw is being able to enjoy seasonal limited-edition labels.

I visited on this day for the course meal. Each skewer was served freshly grilled one at a time, and I was captivated by the great balance of the ingredients’ natural flavor and the careful grilling…✨The liver had a melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the simply grilled nagaimo (Japanese mountain yam) was a nice palate cleanser. It was fun how each skewer brought out a different side of flavor, and I could enjoy the whole meal without ever getting bored.

The skewers are grilled with care, and overall the cooking looked spot on. The negima (chicken and scallion skewer) had scallions that were meltingly sweet and went perfectly with the chicken. The salt seasoning was also refined and easy to enjoy. The sunagimo (chicken gizzard) had a pleasant crunchy texture, and the good flavor of the ingredient came through clearly. The seasoning was light, and the more I chewed, the more flavor spread.

They offer dozens of kinds of yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and it's nice that you can casually order from just two skewers.
They are known for being thick and satisfying, and it's also recommended to enjoy them with one of the 100-plus drinks on offer. Besides yakitori, they also have butamaki-kushi (pork wrapped skewers) and yasai-gushi (vegetable skewers).
Photograph:pm630
They also have a full lineup of a la carte dishes that go well with drinks, including sashimi (raw fish slices), salads, and fried dishes.
Among them, they are said to be especially particular about their Homemade gyoza (Japanese dumplings), and the restaurant is popular for letting you enjoy a wide variety, including the "Special green onion salt Sauce Gyoza" and "Taberu Rayu Gyoza."

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) was fragrant and juicy, the dashimaki tamago (rolled omelet) was soft with a gentle flavor, and the kani chahan (crab fried rice) had a rich crab taste you could really enjoy. Overall, even though the prices are low, the food quality is solid. It is great for having a lively time with friends or stopping by alone for a quick drink. If you are looking for a tasty and budget friendly izakaya (Japanese pub) in Ueno, this is a place I can definitely recommend.

The house specialty, homemade grilled tsukune (chicken meatball skewer), is big, meaty, and delicious! All the yakitori are tasty and easy on the wallet from start to finish〜♪ The Kara-age is also fried up nice and crispy. It seems they even add liver extract, and the staff are lively and pleasant too. It was a great izakaya where you can have a fun drink with a big group.

"Yamadori Ueno Icchome Ten" is an authentic kushiyaki and yakitori specialty restaurant where you can enjoy grilled chicken skewers along with a wide selection of Japanese sake and craft beer, located within walking distance of Ueno-hirokoji Station and Okachimachi Station.
The interior has a simple yet modern Japanese feel, with a comfortable space where small groups can relax and spend time at ease.

The yakitori mainly uses Sanadamaru, a jidori (local chicken breed) from Nagano Prefecture known for its firm texture.
Each skewer is carefully hand-prepared one by one, then grilled over binchotan (high-grade charcoal), which gives it an outstanding aroma. The "shiro reba (white liver)," with its melt-in-your-mouth taste, is the most popular item on the menu.

In addition to meat, the menu also includes skewers that put vegetables front and center. That is a nice plus for people who care about a balanced diet.
The vegetables seem to be grilled with the far infrared heat from the charcoal, bringing out their natural qualities. The shishito (mild green peppers) topped with plenty of katsuobushi (bonito flakes) is also said to be delicious.

The shiro reba (chicken white liver) was the best! Of course the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) was great, and every item on the menu was delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff's service were both very good. I’ll definitely come again!

I enjoyed the classic momo (thigh), bonjiri (tail), and sunagimo (gizzard), each served with the seasoning that best suited the ingredient, such as salt, pepper, or sauce, as chosen by the restaurant. They also offered rare cuts like soriresu (oyster cut), which I really enjoyed. Another restaurant I’d love to visit again has been added to my list.

It was a restaurant a short walk from Okachimachi Station. The exterior was clean, so it felt easy to walk into. The customers were about half regulars and half new visitors. The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) Rice bowl was delicious. It went very well with draft beer.

I visited for the Kara-age. The Ume Suisho came in a crazy heaping assortment. I ended up leaving some, but the piping hot freshly fried Kara-age was the best. You could really tell they put a lot of care into it! The highball was good too. Looking at the menu, I was surprised by how reasonable the prices were. It is a clean, nice restaurant, and I would like to come again.

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) prepared by the owner himself are grilled over strong heat from a distance, which locks in the meat’s rich flavor.
The secret tare (sauce), which has been added to since the restaurant first opened, is based on chicken stock slowly drawn out over time.

This is the kind of happy place where you can enjoy cheap, quick, and tasty charcoal grilled yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). You can also change up the flavor with miso or yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper paste), so it is easy to keep eating without end. It is also fun that you can always choose from about 9 kinds of Japanese sake. I definitely want you to order the rich soup too.

I ordered several skewers A la carte. The size of the nankotsu (cartilage) was just right. Whenever I go to a yakitoriya (yakitori restaurant), I always order liver and nankotsu. This yagen nankotsu (cartilage from the breastbone area) had a nice texture and a pleasant level of salt.

Each yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) is carefully skewered one by one, and it is nice that every skewer is the same price, which makes things easy to understand.
The tare (sweet soy based sauce) uses a traditional seasoning that has been kept since the restaurant first opened, and they slowly simmer plenty of chicken with vegetables and fruit.

If you are not sure what to order, the house specialty “momo kizoku-yaki (grilled chicken thigh skewer)” with tare sauce is a great choice. Sweet negi (Japanese long onion) pairs well with the rich flavor of the chicken thigh, and it is popular for its perfect balance of flavors.
They also offer a wide variety of skewers, including “yagen Cartilage” with its unique texture and “tsukune shio (salt-seasoned chicken meatball)” with its rich flavor.

Chikarakobu (chicken drumette) has a nice springy bite and is juicy. The piiman nikuzume (green pepper stuffed with minced meat) pairs the crunchy bite of the pepper really well with the mince. The classic pork belly skewer also has rich, irresistible fat. Sankaku (chicken tail) is also juicy, with the oil gland properly removed, and the crisp crunch of the cartilage is excellent.

焼き肉マン
I already like yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), so I had high expectations. I quickly tried the momo-niku (chicken thigh) with tare sauce. Yep, it was good! Since the price was low, I was not expecting much at all, but it was tasty! The tare sauce was on the sweet side, and the meat was plump, thick, and highly satisfying. Drinks like Premium Malt's beer were also cheap, so I can see why young people line up for this place. It is cheap, tasty, and good for drinks, which is nice.
