Parlor & Cafe BC JR Utsunomiya Ekimae Ten

A cafe with easy access from JR Utsunomiya Station. It offers a wide variety of cafe menu items, centered on light meals and hand-dripped coffee.

Wood-grain tables and chairs, along with soft lighting, are said to create a warm atmosphere.

The "Napolitan" is said to be made with thin noodles seasoned with ketchup. The ingredients are simple, just wieners and onions.

The butter and garlic add a light touch, making it so tasty that you just can’t stop eating it.

They offer a wide variety of coffee, including decaf and arranged drinks.

The "Brazil Special" is a specialty coffee known for being easy to drink. Its deep richness and just the right acidity are said to leave a pleasant aftertaste.

The coffee had an amazing aroma, just the right amount of bitterness, and was so good that I ended up getting 2 refills.

東京ヒトサシ飯

This long-established kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop) has been in business for more than half a century, and despite its location right in front of the station, it has a nostalgic feel as if time had somehow stood still. Even the exterior has a retro charm, and opening the door reveals an interior that still holds onto the atmosphere of the Showa era.

Brazil Coffee Shokai Tochigikencho Mae Ten

A retro cafe founded in 1971. It is located near the Tochigi Prefectural Government Office.

Inside, which features a wood grain theme, there are table seats and counter seats. The lighting and cash register are said to create a good old atmosphere.

The "pizza toast (comes with salad)" is topped with mushrooms, green peppers, salami, and more.

It is cut into 8 pieces, which people say makes it easy to eat. You can enjoy the rich taste of melted cheese.

The "Cheesecake (Rare)" is a recommended item to enjoy with coffee.

The cake is said to be moist with a smooth texture. It has a nice cheese flavor and is not too sweet, so it is easy to eat.

ににぺ

・Vienna coffee
First, take a sip of the cream. The cream is only lightly sweetened, so it tastes great even on its own... It's creamy and rich, and I want to drink it again.

I stopped by to kill some time. The retro interior is lovely. I was also happy that the coffee cups were Noritake. I ordered my favorite Mandheling coffee. It was delicious!

Cafe Gallery Yuzu

A retro cafe renovated from a kura (traditional storehouse).

With its high ceilings and a space where you can feel the passage of time, it is said to be a place where you can spend time however you like. It also has an attached gallery where you can buy colorful pottery.

The "Today’s Omakase plate lunch" starts with nimono (simmered dish) and tea.

The main is a daily fried dish, and it also comes with three kobachi (small side dishes), rice, and miso soup. After the meal, you can enjoy anmitsu (Japanese sweet with agar jelly) with coffee.

The "matcha parfait" is a popular menu item made with plenty of Homemade kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup). The glass is filled with kanten (agar jelly), tsubuan (chunky sweet red bean paste), and shiratama (rice flour dumplings).

It offers a nice mix of flavors and textures, so you can enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it.

くまくもぐ

• anmitsu (Japanese dessert with agar jelly)
The shiratama dumplings were nice and chewy, and the sweet red bean paste and syrup were both sweet and very tasty. It was a deluxe anmitsu with kiwi and strawberries too!

I ordered the cake set with a half-and-half of cheesecake and matcha (green tea) cake. The café feels like a renovated kominka (traditional Japanese house), and you can enjoy a good old-fashioned atmosphere there.

AKAI TORI

This retro cafe is about a 10-minute walk from Tobu Utsunomiya Station, near Utsunomiya Futarayama Jinja (Utsunomiya Futarayama Shrine).

Inside the cozy space, there is table seating. Small goods are displayed throughout the cafe, and they say it is fun just to look around.

The drink menu offers a wide selection, including coffee, tea, and juice.

The photo shows Vietnamese coffee with milk. They recommend tasting it black first, then using a spoon to mix in the condensed milk settled at the bottom.

The "Kuro Karee (black curry)" is a dish known for its sweetness and rich depth of flavor. It comes with tender chunks of beef and has a mild touch of spice.

You can also add toppings like herb sausage, corn, and cheese if you like.

浜の布袋

・Vietnamese coffee
The Vietnamese coffee also came in a nicely aged dripper, which gave it a great feel. With milk, the condensed milk settles at the bottom, so you stir it, but that clear coffee color unique to Vietnamese coffee feels perfectly refreshing in summer. It was good.

河井継之助

It might be nice to enjoy it as a jun-kissa (traditional Japanese coffee shop). Time always seems to pass more slowly in a good cafe. This place had that kind of atmosphere.

A retro cafe nearest to Ekihigashi Koenmae Station on the Utsunomiya Haga Light Rail Line. It serves Omurice and other Homemade Western style dishes and drinks, and is said to be loved by locals.

Seating is mainly at tables, and they also have spacious counter seats available.

The "Isao-chan no Omurice" is a plate of chicken rice with the tang of ketchup, topped with soft-set egg and cheese.

The key to the flavor is the demi-glace sauce. It includes mushrooms and has a deep, rich taste.

The one-plate lunch with several dishes served on a single plate also seems to be popular.

The "Omurice & Hamburger Steak Fried Shrimp" is said to be popular for its large fried shrimp and satisfying portion. You can enjoy it with rich tartar sauce.

・Omurice & Hamburger Steak
The rich ketchup rice stands up well to the demi-glace sauce and is excellent. Also, the Hamburger Steak, hand-shaped to order, has a meaty flavor with a nice punch. Please come and enjoy this great yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) while taking in the Showa retro feel.

This retro cafe is known for its food and drinks made with ginger.

The interior is said to make use of a kominka (traditional Japanese house) built in 1926. Each seat has a different table and lighting style, so the atmosphere changes depending on where you sit.

The waffle is said to be crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and nicely fragrant when baked.

The "Yaki Cheese Curry" is a menu item made by baking curry with ginger and rice topped with plenty of cheese.

The sweet and mildly spicy curry mixes with a soft cooked egg and melty cheese for a mild finish, they say.

I wonder if the coffee cup was also made here, because the shop's name was carved into it and it had a nice feel. I had coffee with the sweets, and it was very good. It felt like the kind of place where you would want to come alone when you have time and relax with a good book.

・Hot Calpis
A kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shop) with this on the menu... This is the only place I know in Utsunomiya. Concentrated Calpis isn't something you'd normally think to keep at home. I'm also happy that it comes with lemon. Drinking piping hot Calpis in this shop's atmosphere just tastes so good.

A kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shop) in a quiet area, about a 5-minute walk from Tobu-Utsunomiya Station on the Tobu Utsunomiya Line.

Inside, the shop is decorated with music-related items such as instruments and records. This retro cafe seems to be popular with local residents as well.

They offer a wide variety of Napolitan pasta.

The “Utsunomiya Napolitan” is a yakisoba-style Napolitan made with pork belly and a fried egg. When you mix the egg into the thick noodles, it softens the tang of the ketchup and gives it a milder taste.

The "purin a la mode (custard pudding sundae)" is a menu item served on a silver plate.

Along with the pudding, it comes with ice cream, whipped cream, and assorted fruits. The fruits used apparently change with the season.

天ぷら娘

After having a meal with friends, we wanted to take a short break and ended up here while looking for a nearby kissaten (Japanese-style coffee shop)!! The exterior was cute too, and the inside had a Showa retro feel! Records and 80s music played in the shop, so we could relax and enjoy our time there!

・Homemade pudding, cheese meat toast
The pudding had that old school feel and was slightly firm in a nice way, with just the right sweetness. The toast was thick cut and piping hot. I enjoyed it very much. It was a great meal. The shop interior has a full Showa-era feel and a retro atmosphere

They also offer a wide range of coffee. The menu includes a good variety of both single-origin and blends.

The menu lists the flavor notes of each coffee, making it easy to choose based on your preferences.

Yoshihiro Furusawa

I ordered the All Tobi-nzu Blend and a set with chiffon cake. The chiffon cake was banana chiffon that day. The interior had the retro feel of a kissaten (Japanese coffee shop), and I was able to relax away from the noise of the city.
