Okinawa Prefecture [Naha City] Shops Where You Can Enjoy Doughnuts

Oroku Donuts

A shop near Onoyama Koen Station in Naha, Okinawa, selling a wide range of donuts from classic picks to seasonal items.

The bold wall design really catches the eye. It is available for Takeout only, but some reviews also recommend eating them at a nearby park.

The many donuts lined up inside the shop, in all kinds of colors and shapes, all stand out for their cute appearance.

The donut dough is made by mixing in air, which creates a light and crisp texture. They are said to have a sweetness that is not too heavy, so you can keep eating them with ease.

The recommended item is the pink Kabe no Donatsu (Wall Donut). True to its name, it is said to be the donut that served as the model for the donut painted on the exterior wall.

The Tokachi Anko (Tokachi red bean paste) shown on the left in the photo is also very popular, and seems to be a filling donut packed tightly with anko inside the dough.

Well then, first off, you have to go with the plain one! After that, it was a tough choice, but I picked Tokachi anko (sweet red bean paste) and rare cheese (light cheesecake)! The donuts were surprisingly moist. They paired really well with the anko and rare cheese too. At this price, I really appreciate this level of quality. They go great with coffee ☕️They would probably make a nice gift too. There was even a customer buying 20 of them.

Kinako (roasted soybean flour). This is a donut with a simple, homey taste. The sweetness is mild, so I think even people who do not like sweet things can eat it. Some of the donuts might melt if you carry them around, but the taste was good.

THANKs BREAD and DONUTS

This bread and donut shop is on the 5th floor of a small building in Higashimachi, Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture. It is about a 5-minute walk from the west exit of Yui Rail Asahibashi Station.

The shop has a full eat-in space, with sofa seating where you can relax comfortably. On the 1st floor, they also seem to have wagon sales that make it easy to stop by.

Every morning, skilled artisans carefully make each one by hand, and you can enjoy their carefully crafted Homemade doughnuts.

The doughnut dough is said to have a fluffy and chewy texture, with a juicy mouthfeel as well. People also say they are not too sweet or too heavy, so they go down easily.

The lineup includes donuts with all kinds of character, such as the cute pink Berry Donut and the Kokuto Donut coated with two kinds of kokuto (brown sugar).

The Apple Cider Donut ordered that day was an old fashioned donut flavored with apple puree and spices.

The cinnamon doughnut has a soft and chewy texture, and it seems to melt away the moment you bite into it. I had never had a doughnut like this before. It was unbelievably good. The sweetness is mild, and the sweet aroma of cinnamon gently comes through. Instead of coarse cinnamon sugar, it is finished with powdered sugar, so it melts smoothly in the mouth and is easy to finish in no time.

TDAWG

Tucked into one corner of a cleanly renovated multi-tenant building, this restaurant has a calm atmosphere. The doughnuts I had this time were moist, with a nicely balanced sweetness. They had a finish that showed care in the choice of ingredients, and while simple, they were very enjoyable and tasty. The space was also appealing, keeping some of the character of the multi-tenant building while adding a polished feel.

Mister Donut Naha Main Place Shop

This major donut chain has restaurants all across Japan. Takeout and eat in are both available.

Like a local bakery or cake shop, it makes a wide variety of donuts by hand in the restaurant kitchen from the morning. It is near Omoromachi Station in Naha, Okinawa.

The Homemade donuts focus not only on ingredients and texture, but also on the coffee served to enjoy with them.

They offer long loved donuts such as Pon de Ring and Old Fashion, including the chewy "Pon de Ring" and the crisp "Old Fashion."

One of the nice things is that you can easily get it for Takeout, whether for home or as a gift.

When eating it later, it tastes great if you heat it in a toaster oven until the surface turns golden brown, or warm it in the microwave. In summer, freezing it is also recommended so you can enjoy a new texture.

RR(*^^*)

I ordered a chocolate doughnut, a custard cream doughnut, and a Pon de Ring for the first time in a while. Personally, I still like the simple chocolate doughnut best. It may be orthodox, but that simple chocolate doughnut tastes really good to me.

ペチュヤエ

I had the teriyaki chicken pie. They warmed it up for me, so the pastry was nice and crisp. I had not been able to get any savory items at Misudo (Mister Donut) lately, so I had a pie for the first time in a while. It did not have much filling, but it went well with the pastry.

Okinawa Prefecture [Nago City] Shops Where You Can Enjoy Donuts

Shima Donuts

Located in Isagawa, Nago City, Okinawa, this shop serves donuts made with shima-dofu (Okinawan tofu), okara (soy pulp), and tonyu (soy milk).

The stylish building, set in a home with a distinctly Okinawan feel, makes it easy to spot. It also has a compact eat-in space. Many customers seem to use it for Takeout as well.

Inside, rows of baked donuts line the shop, with a variety of options on sale, including "black sesame," "banana," and "cinnamon."

Some say these simple donuts have a somehow nostalgic feel. They also offer daily changing donuts, so it seems like you can enjoy them no matter how many times you visit.

The doughnuts made with tofu and okara (soy pulp) have a light taste, making them a good fit even for people who do not like very sweet treats. They also pair well with coffee.

If you are looking for a doughnut with an Okinawan feel, the "beni-imo (purple sweet potato)" is also recommended. It is well liked for its natural sweetness and gentle flavor.

I had the beni-imo (purple sweet potato) and the daily donut. Since they weren’t deep-fried, they tasted light and were very good. The flavors weren’t too strong either, which made them easy to eat. I’d like to stop by again next time I come to Okinawa!

まあ吉くん2001

I visited a kominka-style (traditional old house-style) doughnut shop in Nago City. From the outside, it looked just like a traditional Okinawan house, and I almost walked right past it, but once I stepped inside, it felt like a completely different world! A lovely cafe space filled with the warmth of wood was waiting inside☕✨

SEALIVING

This popular shop is known for its tasty fried donuts, best enjoyed within 15 minutes.

Step inside the stylish exterior, and you will find a chic space selling accessories and apparel. The donuts are available for Takeout only.

It seems the doughnuts are made to order and served freshly fried.

The outside is crisp and the inside is chewy, giving them a great texture, so they recommend eating them right away. The drink selection also seems extensive, with coffee, tea, and juice.

There are three kinds of doughnuts—"kokuto kinako (brown sugar and roasted soybean flour)," "sugar," and "coconut"—and they also seem to offer a set of three mini doughnuts where you can choose your favorite kinds.

The photo shows the "coconut" one. The crisp texture of the coconut apparently goes well with the light, crispy doughnut dough.

yokomin.yy

This is a very cute cafe in Nago. The interior is based on white, and the shop is lined with cute items such as accessories and apparel. They fry the donuts after you order, so you can enjoy them fresh made! Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, this cafe has many repeat customers! The churros were also chewy and absolutely delicious.

小麦畑の三等星

The coconut milk latte had a rich coconut flavor, and the kokuto milk latte (brown sugar milk latte) blended milk with a brown sugar sweetness that felt so comforting and soaked into the body, making it pleasantly sweet without being too heavy.

jinじん

This is a popular shop in Miyakojima (Miyako Island) for malasada doughnuts. On some days they sell out in the morning, but luckily there were still some left even in the afternoon this time. The malasadas have a gentle flavor and are perfect for an afternoon snack. Be sure to try the milk from Tsunfugu Bokujō (Tsunfugu Farm) sold alongside them too!

I bought the seasonal limited orange malasada doughnut and a plain one. The plain one did not have fresh cream or any filling, but the chewy dough and sugar made it really delicious! The seasonal limited orange flavor was light and refreshing, and it was a delicious doughnut that was perfect for summer!

I ordered the cinnamon and kibito (raw cane sugar). It had plenty of cinnamon sugar, but it was not too sweet, the spice aroma came through nicely, and the kibito was nice and gentle. The dough was super soft and delicious! It did not feel heavy or oily at all, and I felt like I could eat as many as I wanted! Lots of customers also came in for Takeout.

I bought the coconut, vanilla, and cinnamon. I wanted to try the others too, but I had already eaten too much, so I held back... The coconut had a nice strong coconut flavor. The doughnut was light and soft, and the vanilla was as good as it looked. They also seem to have chocolate and other flavors depending on the season.

猫を刺身にして喰う

I discovered how good malasada (Hawaiian doughnut) can be, and it completely changed my idea of doughnuts. Especially puka. It was the first texture like this in my life. Crisp on the outside, yet inside, somehow airy and melt-in-your-mouth. What is that texture?!?!? The malasada is served cold, but it is not hard at all, and the cream inside is also really delicious.

グラ男

This time I picked the cinnamon malasada, and the moment I opened the paper bag, the sweet and spicy aroma of cinnamon sugar drifted out. The outside of the dough is lightly crisp, while the inside is surprisingly soft and airy, with a texture that fully lives up to the name "Fluffy."

I tried the kiwami donut (premium donut), and it was light, fluffy, sweet, and delicious. It made me want to have it again when I’m not worrying about calories. My companion had a seven colored donut called the galaxy donut, which was fun to see. It’s not just colorful either, apparently it has seven different flavors (lol). Please give it a try♪

Stopped by for a snack. I ordered a cream malasada, a brûlée malasada, and a plain doughnut. I especially liked the fresh cream malasada! I wanted something only mildly sweet, so choosing the less sweet options was the right call. The size was just right, and I enjoyed them very much.

ISOLA

A gelato and doughnut specialty shop located in Depot Island on the seaside of American Village in Mihama, Chatan. They use no artificial coloring or preservatives, and focus on methods that make the most of ingredients from Okinawa Prefecture.

You can enjoy body-friendly doughnuts with a light and chewy texture.

The donut dough blends Hokkaido wheat and Domestic wheat in an exquisite balance, then adds Special eggs and milk.

I had sata-andagi (Okinawan deep-fried doughnut) and gelato! I went with Okinawa-style flavors, dragon fruit and shiikuwasa (Okinawan citrus). They were light and very delicious. The sata-andagi was also great, and I recommend it.
