[Fukuoka Prefecture] Want to eat delicious pudding! 4 popular shops

Located in the northern part of Kyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture is a nature rich area surrounded by the sea and mountains. Its downtown districts are close to nature, and it also offers a wide variety of local gourmet food. In this article, we focus on pudding, a popular dessert in Fukuoka Prefecture that mainly comes in two styles: firm pudding made by gently steaming custard, and smooth pudding with fresh cream. We have rounded up popular shops in places such as Fukuoka City and Kitakyushu City.

Purin (Japanese custard pudding) Recommendations

Purin no Susume, a 14-minute walk from JR Kurume Station, is a shop where you can enjoy pudding made with carefully selected ingredients.

Set in a prewar detached house, it has a modern feel. The first floor is a Takeout-only floor, and the second floor has a cafe space.

The recommended "Kin-koku Purin" is made with carefully selected eggs called Eguro Waiyaru. It is made with a special blend of several kinds of cream.

It is said to have an irresistibly creamy, melt-in-your-mouth richness.

The "chiffon cake" comes with a choice of three kinds of ice cream on the side. It has a light, fluffy texture, and they recommend topping it with all of the ice cream before eating.

There is also a set that comes with a drink.

けいとっち

It may be just right because it’s a rich, fairly dense pudding and the caramel is bitter. It looks like the shop in Kurume (Kurume) also has many kinds of pudding, and I’d like to visit. It was a great meal.

There were more kinds of parfaits than I expected, they looked cute, it was fun to choose one, and of course they tasted great too. Next time, I’d like to try the dessert plate as well.

Nishidori Pudding Maingu Ten

Nishidori Purin Maingu Ten is a pudding and gelato shop located inside Maingu Hakata, the in-station shopping facility at JR Hakata Station.

It is known for its tasty mushi-purin (steamed pudding), a Fukuoka-born specialty. It is a Takeout-only shop, and you can eat on the benches near the store.

The lineup includes several kinds of pudding, such as the custard flavored "Poche" and the limited time "Chocolat."

The most popular "Poche" uses eggs from Kyushu. The caramel sauce has a slight bitterness that pairs perfectly with the pudding.

The "gelato" lineup features flavors made with ingredients from Kyushu, including Amaou (strawberries) from Fukuoka Prefecture and Jersey milk from Kumamoto Prefecture.

Among them, the "Amaou gelato" is said to be especially good, with the sweet and tart flavor of strawberries spreading across the palate.

Pour on the caramel sauce served alongside it, and with one spoonful, you get a rich egg flavor and an extremely smooth texture, while the caramel has a proper light bitterness. The balance of sweetness and bitterness is good, and while simple, it also has a rich depth that feels made for adults. It’s incredibly delicious.

・Amaou (premium Fukuoka strawberry) dorayaki
It is a dorayaki, with Amaou cream sandwiched inside the batter. The batter is maybe a little on the firm side... The cream has a wonderful strawberry aroma. I enjoyed it.

Mojiko Principal

Moji-ko Principal is a pudding Takeout specialty shop located in front of JR Mojiko Station. It is on the first floor of Moji Yusen Building, with a craft beer shop attached.

Inside, the shop has a stylish and chic feel, with high ceilings and a clean, open space.

The recommended item, "Mojiko Purin (Mojiko Pudding)," is a pudding with a firm texture.

It has a smooth mouthfeel and mild sweetness, while the caramel at the bottom has a light bitterness that pairs perfectly with the pudding.

"Mojiko Beer" is craft beer made in Kitakyushu City. The lineup includes several kinds, such as rich Weizen and refreshing Pilsner.

The "Sakura Beer" in the photo is said to have a high sugar content and a toasty malt flavor.

It was my first time trying Mojiko Purin (Moji Port pudding), and while it was a slightly firm old fashioned pudding, the inside was smooth and the slightly bitter caramel was very delicious.

The pudding in the bottle was, for me, a firmer style of purin (custard pudding) that I really like! It had a nicely bitter caramel in it too, and I enjoyed it very much.

Pudding Labo

Pudding Labo is a shop specializing in carefully made pudding and macarons using eggs from Itoshima, Fukuoka, and milk from Kagoshima.

It is located 3 minutes by car from Fukuoka City Subway Kamo Station. The gray and white interior has a chic and stylish feel.

The standard purin (custard pudding), "Plain," is known for its smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

The caramel sauce and meringue come on the side, and you crack up the meringue and add the toppings to your liking to finish it. The crunchy meringue adds a nice accent.

For the "Chocolate," meringue and cocoa powder come together in a single bag.

The refined sweetness of the chocolate sauce and the bitterness of the cocoa are said to be a perfect match, creating an addictive flavor.

It’s new. The crunchy texture of the meringue is nice. The pudding itself is pleasantly chewy, which is really good. I received it as a gift, and now I’ve decided I’ll bring it to my own customers too.

• Shio Caramel (Salted Caramel)
This has to be the one! The meringue added a salty note and extra texture, and I really liked the caramel sauce for its rich sweetness.
