Popular Bars on Okinawa Honto (Okinawa Main Island) in Okinawa Prefecture

Bar Auru

At Bar Owl in Naha City on Okinawa Honto (Okinawa Main Island), you can enjoy cocktails unique to Okinawa.

Beyond the heavy door is a stylish space with a counter lined with tropical fruits and comfortable sofas where you can sit back and relax.

The specialty here is gorgeous looking cocktails made with plenty of seasonal fruit.

In the past, they have featured mikan (mandarin oranges) from Okinawa Prefecture, and guests said they enjoyed not only the fruit itself but also the authentic taste of the cocktails.

Traditional Okinawan cocktails made with awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit) are also popular.

Awamori is a distilled liquor made from rice and brewed entirely with black koji mold, known for its rich aroma and full flavor. Some say it had a clear awamori character while still being easy to drink and tasty.

I ordered cocktails made with passion fruit and Okinawa-ken (Okinawa Prefecture) mandarins. The fruit packed into the glass was striking, and the beauty and impact of the presentation instantly lifted my spirits. The fresh fruit sweetness and bright acidity layered together perfectly, making it a drink I enjoyed to the last sip without ever getting tired of it. The service was also pleasant, making this a lovely place I would definitely want to visit again.

A bar near Kencho-mae Station on the Yui Rail in Kokusai-dori, Naha, Okinawa. You can enjoy gorgeous cocktails made with island fruits. This time, I had an Okinawa zenzai-style cocktail made with COR COR, a Domestic rum produced on a remote island in Okinawa. I want to go again.

El Lequio is a stylish bar where South American and Okinawan (Okinawa) vibes come together.

In addition to sofa seating, there is a 15m-long counter. Another draw of the place is its casual atmosphere, where you can relax and enjoy yourself without feeling stiff.

Cocktails include the "Ryukyu-Inspired" classic twist series, which makes the most of Okinawan ingredients.

The lineup is diverse, with drinks made using kokuto (brown sugar) from pressed sugarcane juice and cocktails featuring Ryukyu awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit).

At this bar, whose concept is “Nikkei-Latino,” you can enjoy cocktails like mojitos, caipirinhas, and pisco sours, each given an Okinawan style twist.

The cocktails here also stand out for their unique ingredient combinations, and many of them sound exciting.

The interior had such a lavish feel that it almost seemed like I had come to a theme park, and the straw hats and kariyushi (Okinawan shirts) really gave it that full Okinawa vibe! The cocktails were good too, and customers kept coming in nonstop. It's worth a visit!

Anyone who has had soki soba (Okinawan pork rib noodle soup) will know, but this cocktail really has the flavor of soki soba. It was an unbelievably delicious drink, so I really hope you give it a try!

・Okinawa Kaoru Gin and Tonic
A fragrant gin and tonic made with botanicals from Okinawa. The fresh citrus notes and lightly spicy finish are pleasant, giving this standard drink a distinctive taste. It is a versatile glass that works well both with a meal and after it.

Harekurani Sunset is a tropical and bright cocktail with a smoothie-like texture. Airu Eclat can be summed up as tasting like a banana shake, and it was very good. The french fries were hot and fluffy with a truffle flavor. The seasoning was spot on.

It may be a small restaurant, but you can enjoy from 15 to 20 kinds of wine by the glass at all times, mainly natural wine. Best of all, they also serve champagne by the glass, which is hard to resist for champagne lovers. They also have a food menu, and it is really good!! I will definitely be coming back here.

The atmosphere is very nice. There are surprisingly few places like this in Naha where you can drink while listening to live piano music and taking in a beautiful night view, so I think it is a really great spot. The bartender was also very helpful, sharing all kinds of local recommendations that matched our tastes, including well-known awamori (Okinawan distilled spirit) izakaya, bars, and restaurants serving goat dishes.

The beer is the kind poured from a server, so it feels authentic. It was a great beer just as I had hoped. After all, Kara-age is a must with bakushu (beer). And on this day, there were also various tuna dishes made from tuna the manager had caught. Both the food and the beer were good, and I felt really happy to have found such a nice place. Manzoku.

I visited because I wanted to drink Okinawa craft beer. The place is spacious and looks like it can seat about 50 people. All of the beers were good, and none of the food disappointed. The staff were all kind. It’s a place I’d like to stop by again when I go to Okinawa.

ながちっち

Hearing there was an interesting bar, the two of us decided to visit. At first, we got flustered because we couldn’t figure out how to get in, but after calling to ask, we somehow made it inside. I never would have expected to find such a stylish bar in one room of a building. The cocktails we had were great too, and we were able to relax, chat, and spend a really nice time.

They have all kinds of whisky. I drink a wide range of whisky myself, but the master knows even more, so if you tell him what you like, you can come across a whisky you have never tried before. This hideaway-style bar has a little trick at the entrance, making it perfect for surprises.

・Shima banana (island banana) frozen drink
The drink first brought out the sweetness of the shima banana, followed by a clean alcohol taste in the finish. It also came with a side of shima banana, which was a rare banana with a thin peel. My time there was short, but I was able to enjoy a graceful moment.

I had a glass of mango IPA for my first drink. The mango aroma and the solid IPA character went really well together, so it was delicious of course, and while some craft beers are not served very cold because they prioritize aroma, I really liked that this one was properly and thoroughly chilled. I want to go back again.

熊Q

This place is located just a little off the main street of Miyakojima (Miyako Island). The breweries were all ones I had never heard of, and for good reason: all 12 taps today were serving beers from Okinawa. Since I was here, I went with a local Miyakojima IPA. The refreshing feel as it went down was irresistible
