Guriru Kohō

Grill Kohou is a popular yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant about a 15-minute walk from Higashiyama Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway, where you can comfortably enjoy classic Western-style dishes.

Founded in 1961, it has a long history and is said to have the warm, homey feel of a neighborhood yoshoku restaurant.

The most popular item, the "Omurice," comes in small, medium, and large sizes. A nice point is that you can enjoy it in the size that matches your appetite.

The Omurice is a classic old-school style, and people say the rich, savory sauce is delicious. It is simple, but still a satisfying dish.

They also offer a wide range of Western-style dishes, including sandwiches and meat dishes. Reviews say the Hamburger Steak is popular.

When you cut into the warm Hamburger Steak, meat juices spill out from inside, making it irresistibly juicy.

Ketchup rice sits under a lightly browned egg. It is topped with plenty of demi-glace sauce. The egg wraps the gentle sweetness of the ketchup, and the rich demi-glace sauce, packed with savory flavor, brings it all together. It was large, but easy to finish.

Omura House Demachiyanagi Ten

Omurahouse Demachiyanagi Ten is an Omurice specialty restaurant right by Demachiyanagi Station in Kyoto City, with a lineup of distinctive Omurice dishes.

The interior is said to be a space where you can relax and enjoy your meal. In addition to table seating, it also has counter seats where you can watch the Omurice being prepared.

One of this restaurant's draws is its wide variety of Omurice menu items, made with all kinds of fillings from Western style to Japanese style.

The "Hayashi Omurice," popular with people of all ages, features butter rice inside soft fluffy egg, and the sauce is said to be not too rich and easy to enjoy.

If you want to enjoy Kyoto-style Omurice, the Japanese-style toro yuba (melty fresh tofu skin) Omurice is a great choice.

It is topped with soft fresh yuba and a dashi sauce over the egg, giving it great flavor. Inside the egg, there is hijiki (seaweed) rice hidden away.

Drawn by the phrase that it has kept the same taste since opening, I ordered the Meat Omurice. The rich meat sauce combines with the depth of the cheese for a fairly bold flavor. It has a unique richness, and the more you eat, the more you can feel how good it is. The portion of rice is also on the larger side, so I was completely full after the meal. It was a highly satisfying plate.

As you would expect from a specialty restaurant, the menu is extensive, but since I was in Kyoto, I chose the toro yuba (melting tofu skin) Omurice, something you can only eat there. The rice contains hijiki (seaweed) and aburaage (fried tofu), which gives it a fresh Japanese style touch. It goes well with the cold dashi (Japanese soup stock) and yuba, and I ate it while mixing it in bit by bit.

A demi-glace sauce with a perfectly balanced tang is poured over the egg, and you can also enjoy changing up the flavor with tartar sauce. It is also known for its very generous portion.

Inside the thin cooked egg is spiced yakimeshi (fried rice), which has a great match with the sauce.

京都旨得グルメ

Inside the Omurice is a curry flavored pilaf packed with chicken, onions, carrots, shimeji (beech mushrooms), and more, and it is delicious even on its own! Also, as the tartar sauce and demi-glace sauce blend together, you can enjoy how the flavor changes, and although it is quite filling, it stays tasty to the very last bite! This is a flavor you really can only get here!

・Omurice gratin (cheese & Hamburger Steak)
The demi-glace is rich and nice. The cheese goes perfectly with the Omurice, and it tastes so good. The Hamburger Steak is also nice and meaty, just the kind I like. The Omurice has a soft-set center too, which is great. Delicious.

It comes with plenty of kiima karee, enough to completely cover the rice. You can taste the aroma of the spices, but it is not too spicy and easy to enjoy, with a flavor that seems to appeal to everyone.

I finally tried the Omurice I had heard about, with ketchup rice covered in soft, creamy egg. It looked like dress Omurice, and the demi-glace sauce around it seemed to have been simmered slowly, making it really delicious!

The shop looked very cute from the outside. The interior was also spacious and somehow reminded me of a cafe overseas. I ordered a cake set, and the gâteau au chocolat was really good! It was a stylish space where I could relax, and it seems like it would work well for all kinds of occasions.

The Omurice was quite filling, so it was the right call not to get the Large size. The filling of the Omurice was ketchup rice with a mild tang. The egg was thin, but nicely soft, and overall I enjoyed it all the way to the last bite.

Every dish today was high quality. Above all, this restaurant’s signature dish, the Hamburger Steak, was the best I’ve ever had. The demi-glace sauce was outstanding. It was so well made that it could serve as a model for any yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant.

KANAKO0807

There was a very wide variety of Omurice alone, so it was quite hard to choose. Also, as you can tell from the look of it, the portions are very filling and enough to leave you full. The prices are reasonable too, and I thought it would be a great place to visit for lunch with friends.

ぼぅし

A beautifully neat and rounded Omurice that fits the restaurant’s name perfectly. The eggs are made with plenty of butter, and perhaps because they are mixed in a way that incorporates lots of air, they have an incredibly soft and fluffy texture on the tongue. It was served only with demi-glace sauce, but that also had a gentle flavor, so it was easy to keep eating without getting tired of it. The rice was also tasty, fried so well that each grain stayed separate.

ゆうた【関西グルメ】

Ordered the Omurice! An Omurice that looks cute and tastes great too! When it arrived, I thought it might not be that filling, but as I kept eating, I ended up full and very Manzoku! Omurice is the main thing at this restaurant, but they also had Napolitan, and it looked good too. There are lots of other places in Kyoto with great Omurice, but you should definitely try the Omurice at this restaurant!

aki toshi

This time, I ordered the regular size Omurice. Even so, it had a volume that rivals the Large size at other restaurants, and it looked impressive at first glance. The omelet wrapping the ketchup rice was a little uneven in shape, but it had a warm homemade feel and a well seasoned, tasty flavor. The salad and miso soup served on the side were also excellent, and the miso soup in particular stood out for being packed with ingredients.

I was surprised when it arrived. The portion was larger than when I used to eat it before. (It seems to be about 2 cups of rice.) The chicken rice was packed with chicken and onions, and it was very tasty.

Amerimo

You still want to eat this even as an adult, right. A huge fried shrimp, pure white egg, Omurice with a white yolk, Hamburger Steak, cream croquettes, and very filling portions. The beef steak lunch is also recommended—the whole chilled tomato salad served as an Appetizers dish is outstanding.

・Adult Kids' Lunch
It also comes with soup and a whole tomato salad, and the main plate is packed with all kinds of items, so it feels very satisfying! I personally liked the cream croquette the most. The white Omurice was interesting because it didn’t have ketchup rice inside, which felt fresh. At first I thought the demi-glace sauce was maybe a little too sweet, but little by little it became addictive.
