[Nara City, Nara Prefecture] Restaurants with Great Omurice
Photograph:Story1000
Yukitei is a yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant about a 15-minute walk from Nara Station, located in Takamikadocho in central Nara City, where the old townscape still remains.
It is a popular spot known for its Omurice, and some days there is even a line. On some days they hand out numbered tickets, and benches are set up in front of the restaurant for people waiting to go inside.

It is open only at lunchtime. They also offer a set with fried shrimp and Hamburger Steak, as well as beef curry.
The popular choice is Omurice. An omelet made with plenty of eggs and cooked into a beautiful shape sits on top of chicken rice, with plenty of sauce poured over it.
Photograph:ちゃだか
When you cut into the omelet with a knife, the soft half cooked egg spills out and covers the rice.
In addition to the omelet, the chicken rice is also said to be very good. You can enjoy it as a set with a mini salad and soup. You can choose either demi-glace or ketchup for the sauce.
もももごはん
I ordered the Omurice set. It was really delicious. The photo shows the Large size, and they say it uses as many as 6 eggs. It tasted rich and indulgent. The staff are kind, and they always talk to me after I finish the Large size. It is a warm and welcoming place, so I think I will come again.

With one bite, the egg tastes mellow with a gentle mouthfeel. What stands out most is the ketchup rice. It has small pieces of carrot and chicken, and the flavor has a mellow richness that somehow brings butter to mind. The tang of the ketchup, the soft and creamy texture of the egg, and the rich depth of the rice layer together nicely, giving the dish real depth of flavor.

Phyllis is a restaurant located about a 3-minute walk from the west exit of Nara Station, near the station parking lot. The menu mainly features Omurice, pasta, and doria (Japanese-style baked rice gratin).
The compact interior has about 16 seats. The warmth of the wood gives it a cozy feel, and its homey comfort is also well liked.
You can choose from several kinds of sauce to pour generously over the signature Omurice.
A popular choice is the "beef sauce." It has a demi-glace flavor made with stock from beef, and the light sauce is said to go well with the egg.
Photograph:S.Y Nのグルメ日記
There is a wide range of toppings, including vegetables, bacon, and corn, and the flavors also come in options like tomato sauce, white sauce, and demi-glace.
Another plus is the generous amount of sauce and how it stays piping hot for a long time. At lunchtime, it apparently comes as a set with salad and soup.

I ordered the Omurice with beef sauce. The egg had a gentle feel and was good. Above all, the light, smooth texture of the beef sauce without any heaviness matched the Omurice really well. I finished it in no time.

・Bacon and Cabbage Omurice
The balance between the thick, soft half-cooked omelet and the ketchup rice cooked to a light, fluffy texture is excellent, and it is filling and very satisfying to eat. The sweetness of the cabbage and the mild flavor of the cream sauce really brought out how good the Omurice was!

Sun Bird is an Omurice specialty restaurant about a 3-minute walk along Higashimuki Kita Shotengai (Higashimuki Kita Shopping Street) from Exit 1 of Kintetsu Nara Station. It is so popular that there can even be a line on some days.

You can choose from about six kinds of Omurice, each different in both looks and taste. They change not only the sauce but also the seasoning of the chicken rice inside.
A popular choice is the "Lemon Butter." It tops soy sauce flavored chicken rice with soft runny egg. It is said to taste light yet still have the rich umami of butter and soy sauce.

Reviews say they offer everything from simple Omurice to Omurice with demi-glace sauce or cream sauce, and every one of them makes you want to try it.
They also have limited time menu items made with seasonal vegetables and other ingredients. Even though the portions are hearty, they are so good that people finish them with ease.

I had the Carbonara Omurice. It was not as rich as it looked, and the balance of pepper was just right, so I kept eating it with no trouble. I had the 300g portion and finished it easily. There were more than 10 kinds, so I want to come back and try them all.

・Omurice with lemon butter soy sauce
The lemon butter soy sauce is the signature item you can only enjoy here. The fresh taste of lemon, the mellow richness of butter, and the toasty aroma of soy sauce. This perfect trio coats the soft, creamy egg and spreads through your mouth all at once, which is just irresistible✨The tang of the mayo adds a slight accent, and the whole dish feels really well put together.

Pinokio is a coffee shop located in Mochiidono Center-gai, about halfway between Kintetsu Nara Station and Naramachi Odori, a popular sightseeing area known for its old world charm and wooden buildings dating back to around 1860.
The interior has a calm feel with brown as the main tone. Some reviews say you can relax and spend time here at ease.

They offer about five kinds of Omurice, and on certain days of the week they also have special menu items served with fried shrimp or chicken Kara-age.
The simple Omurice is the kind with ketchup flavored rice wrapped in a thin egg omelet. It has a neat shape, and you can taste the sweet and tangy flavor of the ketchup.
Photograph:京きのこ
The Omurice topped with cheese over ketchup rice, covered with soft set egg, and finished with plenty of demi-glace sauce is also popular.
Many people also seem to enjoy desserts like cheesecake and chiffon cake after the meal and spend a relaxing time here.
A classic Omurice. The egg wrapped softly around the ketchup rice is not flashy, but it has a simple, gentle finish♡This kind of old-school classic Omurice is the most delicious...! The balance between the soft, creamy egg and the sweet-tangy ketchup rice is great♡

The places crowded with tourists always seem to come with lines and a rushed atmosphere, so I avoided those and visited this calm spot instead. I went in around noon and was able to get a seat without waiting. The tomato sauce Omurice was reliably good, and since I wanted a little more, I added a cake set after the meal and was able to spend a relaxing time.

Baby Face, a cafe restaurant with restaurants across Japan. This is the Oskuma branch in Jingu, in northern Nara City, where kofun (ancient burial mounds) from around the 5th century can be found.
This standalone restaurant sits along Nara-yama Odori and also has a parking lot. The decor has a resort-like feel, and it seems you can relax in Semi-private room seating.
Photograph:@sum
One reason for its popularity is the wide menu selection, which makes it easy for families and groups to relax and spend time here.
For the main dishes like Omurice and pasta, you can choose the portion size, including extra extra Large size. Even the regular size is said to be quite generous.
Photograph:のんだくれのどん
They add butter to the egg for the Omurice and cook it to a soft, fluffy texture. There is also a wide variety of Omurice options.
The signature dish is the "Chomolungma Omurice," which combines ketchup rice and cheese. They also serve a Japanese-style Omurice wrapped around pilaf and paired with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) sauce.
のんだくれのどん
I had stopped going as often after my favorite item, the mentaiko tororo, disappeared from the menu, so I was excited to see it come back. The inside is pilaf, and the mentaiko tororo makes it go down so smoothly, making it easy to eat while also adding a nice accent, so it is an amazing dish. The Omurice here also has soft fluffy eggs, and among chain restaurants, this is one of my favorites! The S size comes with 500g of rice, so I recommend it when you want a really filling meal.

・Chomolungma Omurice
Even the S-size Omurice has real impact. It comes piping hot with plenty of sauce, and the eggs are soft and runny, making it very delicious. You can really taste the cheese too, so this is recommended for cheese lovers!

A key feature here is that you can choose the size of your Omurice, the sauce, and toppings, and enjoy an Omurice customized to your liking.
The standard Omurice wraps ketchup rice in a thin egg crepe. Even the small SS size uses 2 eggs.
Photograph:ネコルル
The standard rice is ketchup rice with bacon and chicken. They also have butter rice and rice seasoned in a Japanese style.
There are also various sauces, including demi-glace, cream, and curry. They also offer a low-carb omelet made with onion and ground meat wrapped inside instead of rice.
キングダム52
A nostalgic Omurice. There used to be an Omurice restaurant like this in my hometown too. I had it for the first time in a while, and it tasted so nostalgic. I ordered the S size, but the SS size might have been just right. The classic one is the best.

桶屋の鬼吉
According to the description, the SS size uses 2 eggs with about 1.3 bowls of rice, and the S size uses 3 eggs with about 1.7 bowls of rice. The ketchup rice is stir-fried well, the eggs are soft-cooked and fluffy, and the sauce on top is a house-made rich sauce based mainly on tomato ketchup.

Omurice no O-mise Fu~Fu~ is an Omurice specialty restaurant near the Seiwadai Nichome bus stop in Kamimaki, an area in western Nara with easy access to Osaka.
It stays open straight through from before noon until night. There is also parking, so it is easy to stop by casually.

They offer a wide variety of Omurice. At lunchtime, they also serve it with soup and salad.
The classic tomato sauce is said in many reviews to have mild acidity, a slight sweetness, and a gentle flavor. Omurice topped with ketchup, like home cooking, is also popular.

They offer a wide range of sauces, including Japanese style with a thick sauce and spicy curry.
The creative dish called "Omurice doria" combines Omurice with plenty of sauce and cheese, then finishes it in the oven, making it piping hot and satisfying.
nikorange25
I finally got to visit this Omurice specialty restaurant that I had been wanting to try for a long time. In any case, there were so many kinds of Omurice. But this time, I went with the most popular tomato sauce. It had a gentle flavor and was very delicious. Next time, I’d like to try a variety of dishes.
