[Fukuoka City Chuo Ward] Restaurants with Great Omurice

Gokoku

Chuo Ward in Fukuoka City, home to Tenjin, the largest downtown district in Kyushu, is a popular area packed with commercial facilities such as department stores. The Omurice restaurant in Fukuoka City's Chuo Ward is Gokoku.

Inside, the stylish interior has a cafe-like atmosphere.

The restaurant’s signature dish is Mentaiko (spicy cod roe) Omurice, made with Fukuoka City’s local specialty, mentaiko. The salty taste of the mentaiko and the soft, jiggly egg are said to be a perfect match.

The popular Men-omu Lunch comes with Mentaiko Omurice, plus a salad and dessert set.

In addition to Omurice, you can also choose "ikura (salmon roe) rice" and "maguro (tuna) rice," both made with plenty of fresh seafood.

The "kaisendon Gozen set," which comes with miso soup, tororo (grated yam), and sunomono (vinegared side dish), is said to be very filling and enough to leave you full.

In a little over 10 minutes, the men-omu arrived. The omelet was thick and jiggly, and when I cut into it with a spoon, it flopped onto the plate like snow sliding off a roof. Was it gokokumai (five-grain rice)? The rice was tinted red like mentaiko (spicy cod roe), and they used plenty of mentaiko too! The omelet was fluffy and creamy, almost like a firm pudding, and the rice was good too!

ふみライアン

The Omurice is packed with mentaiko (spicy pollock roe), and it is exciting to open the soft fluffy egg with a spoon. The portion is a bit much for me, but it is so good that I finish it easily. The dessert cake is also delicious.

Chikae Saryo Daimyo Honten

Chikae Saryo Daimyo Honten is a local farm to table cafe and market run by the long established ryotei (traditional Japanese restaurant) Chikae. Inside, a refined and open space spreads out around a large fish tank.

It is in a convenient location, just a 5-minute walk from Akasaka Station on the Subway Airport Line, making it easy to stop by between sightseeing and shopping.

The photo shows the "Special Omurice with mentaiko (spicy cod roe) cream sauce." It uses special uni (sea urchin) butter rice and eggs from Asakura, Fukuoka Prefecture.

The mentaiko cream sauce served on the side is known for its rich flavor, with the signature spicy kick of mentaiko as a nice accent.

Dishes made with plenty of ingredients from Kyushu (Japan’s southwestern main island) are popular here. The photo shows the “Watarigani (blue crab) Curry with Kyushu vegetables,” topped with deep-fried vegetables.

The curry, infused with the rich stock of watarigani, has a nice balance of spicy heat and umami, making it a flavor that appeals to a wide range of people.

ちーずとうふ

The mentaiko cream Omurice I had been wanting to try. You split it open down the middle to reveal soft, creamy eggs over special uni (sea urchin) butter rice with rich seafood stock and deep flavor. The uni flavor is not too strong, but if you look closely, there are tiny pieces of uni in it, giving it an elegant taste. As expected from Chikae. And above all, the mentaiko cream sauce is outstanding.

YSL-LOTTA

The special Omurice was outstanding, with excellent harmony between the uni (sea urchin) butter rice, egg, and mentaiko (pollock roe) cream sauce. The mentaiko and Spear Squid spaghetti was also very tasty, and both the mentaiko and Spear Squid had a great texture. Also, the mentaiko France, soaked with the special mentaiko filling, was excellent and delicious as well.

マイケル弱小

I was craving Omurice, so I visited Shiro no Furaipan. They had two kinds, demi-glace sauce and mushroom sauce, and this time I ordered the demi-glace sauce. The sauce was rich, and the eggs were soft and runny, so it was very good. I’ll definitely visit again!

I went with the pasta. I was very happy that it came as fresh pasta and was served in a piping hot frying pan, and it was also very good. It came with pizza bread instead of regular bread, and the pizza bread was very tasty.

Omuya

Omuya is a yoshoku (Japanese-style Western food) restaurant located a 4-minute walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station (Tenjin), just off a side street from Tenjin Nishi-dori, an area lined with restaurants and shopping buildings.

The omu-rice (omelet rice) topped with demi-glace sauce is said to have a nostalgic, comforting taste.

You can also choose "omu white" with white sauce or "omu curry" with curry sauce.

It comes with plenty of sauce with a nice tang from the ketchup, and it is said to taste great even with just the egg and sauce.

なかもりあきない

I had been curious about this Omurice restaurant for a long time. The Omurice with soft, fluffy eggs was absolutely outstanding! The sauce was seasoned just right, and I could enjoy it without getting tired of it until the last bite. The atmosphere inside was calm, and the staff were polite and attentive. It is definitely a place I want to visit again.

The moment you step inside, a Showa retro atmosphere opens up, making this Omurice restaurant feel somehow nostalgic and relaxing. The Omurice may look simple, but the way the egg is cooked, the tang of the ketchup, and the richness of the chicken rice are perfectly balanced, and the more you eat, the deeper the flavor feels.

The Omurice had a soft and fluffy egg on top, while the rice inside had a rich tomato flavor, and the onion added a nice accent, making it very tasty. Of course, I had the Large size.

I ordered the tomato and hayashi Omurice. The combo of soft, fluffy eggs and cheese is really delicious. It goes well with both sauces. Also, the pickles and soup come with free refills, and eating the pickles together with the Omurice lets you change up the flavor.

Every time, I sit at the counter in front of the Teppan-yaki station. This is almost my number one restaurant for Omurice. The fluffy eggs and thick Hamburger Steak, which is neither too firm nor too soft, go well with the demi-glace sauce and the mentaiko (pollock roe) cream sauce.

The egg is super fluffy!! The inside is soft and runny. The rice is ham rice flavored with ketchup, and together with the fluffy egg, the seasoning is just right and it tastes really good. I was impressed that they can put out this level of quality so quickly! And the coleslaw I ordered as a set! It was incredibly delicious.

I love the Omurice with chestnuts. I tried ordering the Napolitan. This apparently used to be an off-menu item and is said to be the most time-consuming dish. Since the raw egg cooks on the piping hot Teppan-yaki, it’s best to eat it when it reaches the doneness you like.

・Omurice with squid and mentaiko (spicy cod roe)
Once you make a cut with a knife, it opens up neatly. It seems you can make the amount of cream or rice a paid Large size. The rice is simple butter rice. Since there are various sauces, maybe they keep it simple so it pairs well with the sauce. The Omurice mixed with the sauce was very delicious!
