Okinawa Prefecture [Naha City] for kaiten-zushi (conveyor belt sushi)!

Ryukyu Kaiten Sushi Kairai

Ryukyu Kaiten Sushi Kairai is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant on the 4th floor of the Naha Airport Domestic Passenger Terminal Building.

Jazz plays inside, giving the restaurant a Japanese modern feel. If you sit by the window, you can watch planes take off and land.

You can enjoy sushi made with local ingredients, including fish from Okinawa.

The “Kensan-gyo no Nigiri 4-shu assortment (4-piece assortment of locally sourced fish nigiri)” lets you fully enjoy fish caught in the waters near Okinawa. They recommend squeezing shikuwasa (Okinawan citrus) over the toppings and eating them with sea salt.

They also offer original creative sushi made with goya (bitter melon), an island vegetable from Okinawa.

The "Goya no Hosomaki" is a menu item of boiled goya rolled into sushi, seasoned with rock salt mixed with black pepper. The tang of the vinegared rice pairs well with the goya.

I had a little time at Naha Airport and felt like having sushi made with local fish, so I came here. Mozuku (Okinawan seaweed) kimchi goes really well with beer ^_^ I ordered miibai (grouper), seiika (cuttlefish), irabuchaa (parrotfish), machi (local snapper), and taman (striped emperor). The grouper family fish miibai and taman have the feel of refined white fish. The seiika was soft, sticky, and tasty.

The moment I arrived at Naha Airport, I wanted to eat Okinawan food, so I visited for the first time. I was impressed by the mimigaa (pig's ear) nigiri, Ishigaki-gai (Ishigaki shellfish) nigiri, nigiri topped with umi-budo (sea grapes), and asari soup.

The sushi toppings use ingredients delivered to the restaurant from fishing grounds around Japan while still keeping their freshness.

Among them, the tuna is said to use Special lean akami (red meat) packed with umami. It has a smooth mouthfeel, and you can enjoy the aroma that only fresh tuna has.

The sushi rice is formed at body temperature, letting you enjoy its mild acidity and the rice’s natural sweetness.

バシタカ

・Tennen shime saba (naturally caught cured mackerel) topped with ume oroshi (grated daikon radish with pickled plum)
This sushi tastes light and fresh, and it does a great job of bringing out the quality of the mackerel. I really like mackerel because it is delicious raw, cured, or even made into oshizushi (pressed sushi).

There is a wide variety of side dishes such as udon and ramen. Ordering is done using a tablet, and I ordered items such as maguro (tuna), tako (octopus), and ikura (salmon roe). The maguro was especially good, and the chawanmushi (savory egg custard) contained hotate (scallop), kamaboko (fish cake), and chicken.

Lately I’ve been really into saba bo-zushi (mackerel pressed stick sushi). I found the thickest saba bo-zushi I’ve ever had. It was so big I couldn’t fit it in my mouth even with a wide bite. The anago (conger eel) was also tender and tasty, and they also had local Okinawan fish. They also offered a variety of creative sushi, and I enjoyed every one of them.

We ordered premium tuna, madai (Sea Bream), whelk, octopus, and shimaaji (striped jack), and everything was fresh and delicious. The nameko red miso soup came in a very large bowl and was really satisfying to drink. Of course, it was tasty too.

In addition to the standard sushi toppings, the Ishigaki-sourced seafood selection includes irabucha (parrotfish), aka-muchi (a local fish), makubu (striped beakfish), and miibai (grouper), letting you fully enjoy island fish. The fresh white fish completely overturned the common image that fish from the southern seas have a bland taste. The side dishes and desserts are also plentiful.

When I wanted to eat sushi in Ishigaki, this was the place that came up in my search! I was looking for a place that felt local and unpretentious, and that led me to Sushinchu. Items from Ishigaki had labels, and they were very good. The rest of the sushi was very good too.

The touchscreen ordering system makes it fun to order and easy to eat too much. There is a slot to return the plates, which makes cleanup smooth, and that is a very good idea.

Every sushi we ordered was delicious. But Hama Zushi's wazabi (wasabi) really packs a punch. The coffee jelly was also very good, and we left very happy, Manzoku.
