Okonomi Tamachan viva

Okonomi Tamachan viva is an okonomiyaki restaurant about a 10-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station on the Osaka Metro.

The inside has a hideaway atmosphere that feels like a bar. There is terrace seating in front of the entrance.

The restaurant's okonomiyaki includes suji-kon (stewed beef tendon and konnyaku yam cake). The outside is nicely browned, while the inside stays light and fluffy.

The popular item in the photo is the Tamachan Deluxe, which comes with all the premium ingredients.

They also serve Korean dishes such as namul, kimchi, and bulgogi. They have a nice spicy kick and are said to go perfectly with drinks.

Some reviews also said that being able to have okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) as a finishing dish after drinking is a nice bonus.

なおき い.

The first thing that surprised me was the texture of the okonomiyaki. It was nicely browned on the outside, while the inside was light and soft, almost creamy. That perfect balance was really amazing, and the moment I took a bite, I thought, "This is exactly what Osaka-style okonomiyaki is all about." The Tamachan Deluxe was also packed with ingredients, making it a very satisfying dish.

・Tamachan Deluxe-yaki
To finish, I had the okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) named after the restaurant. Crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. It comes with "suji-kon," made with simmered beef tendon and konnyaku (yam cake). The thoughtful Korean small plates and okonomiyaki were a great combo! It was delicious!

I was craving okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), so I ordered the mix♪Can you picture it? The fluffy batter and house-made sauce are so good〜. It’s completely different from the okonomiyaki I usually eat. It made me want to order another one!

The steak is Saga-gyu (Saga beef) fillet. Wasabi salt is the recommended pairing, but akegarashi goes well with it too! The signature "Gekko-yaki" comes with cheese. Packed with egg, it is different from okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), and this konamon (flour-based dish) is fluffy, melty, and delicious♪

やすぼうし

It may sound obvious, but it tastes great. The batter is light and soft, almost melty. No matter which fillings you choose, you really can’t go wrong. On the Teppan-yaki griddle, the wheat flour shows endless possibilities. We finished 3 okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancakes) in no time. At about 1.5 per person, it is plenty to eat. The location down a small lane also adds to the charm.

イクピ

I ordered the basic items, and they were surprisingly good! The buta-tama modern-yaki (pork and egg modern-style okonomiyaki) had great volume, and the fluffy yet light okonomiyaki was very tasty♪

トリコロールたか

We started by enjoying the Teppan-yaki, then for the sauce based dishes we had been looking forward to, my companion had the Buta Kimu Cheese-dama (right), and I had the kaki (oyster) okonomiyaki, Kaki-dama (left). It was light and airy yet nicely set inside, with rich flavor throughout, and it was the kind of okonomiyaki you could never make at home.

Could this restaurant's okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake) really have almost no flour in it? It was so light and fluffy, almost like nagaimo (Japanese yam), and packed with plenty of cabbage and fillings. It feels healthy, it's fluffy, and it tastes great. The tonpeiyaki (pork omelet) we ordered with it had plenty of egg, and the sauce mixed with the pork fat for a really tasty bite. It goes perfectly with beer!

POPなしんちゃん

We ordered the JPY3,500 All you can drink course. Some of the people around us were ordering à la carte. The renkon (lotus root) cheese was excellent! We really enjoyed the nice texture. The okonomiyaki (savory pancake) was of course delicious, but the specialty curry rice-yaki was the best!! It was a fun dish to look at too, with curry rice inside the okonomiyaki.

・Momotaro-yaki
A creative okonomiyaki with the restaurant’s name in it. It is a combo of okonomiyaki and udon! It was a new experience, but it was really tasty. The chewy udon goes very well with the okonomiyaki! It is also quite filling. A satisfying dish.

唐辛子ママ511

For the okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), the staff cooked it for us and brought it over on the Teppan-yaki plate, while for the takoyaki (octopus balls), the staff handled the prep and then we finished cooking them ourselves. Since I do not usually make takoyaki at home, I really enjoyed the whole experience while eating. Personally, I thought the okonomiyaki was light and airy, and very delicious.

STIMS

Making your own takoyaki (octopus balls) is fun. The batter is soft, so even if you mess up at first, you can fix it and shape it into a ball. It was piping hot and delicious. Then the large mixed okonomiyaki (savory pancake) arrived. I thought I might get tired of it after the takoyaki, but the flavor profile was different, so I enjoyed it.

・Daily lunch special
The Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (savory pancake) had a light, fluffy batter, and the soba noodles were pleasantly chewy. From the very first bite, it was clear how well they went together, making for a highly satisfying dish. The sauce was on the sweeter side and incredibly good! On top of that, the set meal came with solid miso soup, rice, and salad, and it felt well balanced as a set meal overall.

The signature dishes are, of course, okonomiyaki and negi-yaki (green onion pancake). They are crisp and fragrant on the outside and light and fluffy inside, with an excellent balance that is neither too heavy nor too light. The negi-yaki in particular keeps a nice crisp texture while still blending well with the batter. There is a real sense of happiness in gathering around the Teppan-yaki and digging into it while it is still piping hot. It was a reliable flavor that both tourists and locals could enjoy with Manzoku.

ジー・ロンド

The tako-tama (octopus okonomiyaki) I ordered in advance is served. Well then, let’s dig in. The sauce is on the sweet side. I eat it while it’s piping hot. The tenkasu (tempura bits) have a light texture and taste great. Even though I hesitated, I decided to go for the kaisen yakisoba (seafood fried noodles) too! This one is also finished with a sweet sauce. I like the texture of the seafood too. The beni shoga (pickled red ginger) gives it a nice contrast in flavor.

Y家

For okonomiyaki (savory Japanese pancake), I ordered the mix tama modern-yaki (savory Japanese pancake with mixed toppings and noodles). It was wonderfully soft, and I thought it was the best okonomiyaki I had ever eaten. I would love to go again. It was a great meal!

The beer set is a great deal! I’m so happy it comes with 5 gyoza (dumplings)! They’re packed with meat juices and flavor, and go great with beer. Out of all the okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), Imobuta (potato-fed pork) might be my favorite. The roughly mashed, fluffy potatoes with sauce and mayo taste so good.

Fowafowa-yaki (fluffy griddled batter dish) JPY700, a special creative konamon (flour based dish) made with takoyaki batter. It is runny and jiggly, which is to say fowafowa. Finishing it with dashi shoyu also works really well. Butatama (pork okonomiyaki with egg) JPY700, with finely chopped cabbage that stays nice and crisp. The airy batter, with a soft egg presence, turns wonderfully runny in your mouth.

It's popular for the friendly service, so the place was already full when we arrived.
