Shizuoka Prefecture [Shizuoka City]: Popular places to enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers)

fully private room izakaya (Japanese pub) Kushiyaki (grilled skewers) Moga_Ru Shizuoka Ekimae Ten

"fully private room izakaya kushiyaki Moga_Ru Shizuoka Ekimae Ten" is a Japanese-style izakaya serving charcoal grilled dishes and Hakata (an area of Fukuoka) specialties, about a 4-minute walk from Shin-Shizuoka Station.

The interior is a stylish space with a retro design throughout. There are also Private room seats for small groups.

The sumibiyaki (charcoal grilled) yakitori lineup includes familiar skewers such as negima-kushi (chicken and scallion skewer) and reba-kushi (liver skewer). You can choose either tare sauce or salt for the seasoning.

The negima-kushi is said to let you enjoy the plump texture of the thigh meat. It also pairs perfectly with the scallion.

The "Hakata motsu-nabe (Hakata offal Hot Pot)" is filled with plump motsu and plenty of seasonal vegetables. The soup comes in three varieties: soy sauce, salt, and mizutaki (Japanese chicken broth).

It is also recommended to fully enjoy the soup by ordering the add-on tamago zosui (egg rice porridge) or champon noodles.

• 8 kinds of kushiyaki (grilled skewers)
My first impression was that the variety made it feel very luxurious. The sasami (chicken tenderloin) was especially soft and tasty! There was also a skewer wrapped with mozzarella, and the rich mozzarella flavor really came through, which was great. The sunagimo (gizzard) had a nice crunchy texture and was excellent. The momo (chicken thigh) was also juicy and gave that great feeling of eating really good yakitori, so the sense of Manzoku was very high.

We enjoyed it by ordering A la carte instead of a course. We ordered salad, octopus sashimi, hirame (flounder) sashimi, a six skewer set of yasai-maki-kushi (vegetable wrapped skewers), and yakitori. For drinks, we asked for All you can drink On-the-Day. Everything we ate was good, and it made sense that the restaurant was full.

This was a place that caught my eye because I had never tried this Tochigi specialty before. It was a counter-only restaurant, and I felt comfortable even dining alone. I recommend the tsukune.

Visited for a celebration. The portions had good volume and were very Manzoku. This place has the steady quality you expect from high end yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), and I was happy with the taste of each skewer. We ordered the All you can drink option, and the wine selection was nice too. The harmony between the food and drinks was also excellent. The tucked away location in the back was quiet and calm, which turned out to be a good thing.

The meal is served as a course. Each dish is finished really well, and the pacing is quite good. I do not mean that faster is better, but rather that the next dish arrives just as you are thinking about how good the last one was or talking about it. I personally think that is an important point. The staff also seemed very attentive and moved efficiently.

ホッとゲノム

Even though it is a yakitori restaurant, smoke was not billowing through the air, and the clean interior had no smell either. It feels easy to walk into. We toasted with beer and ordered appetizers and yakitori on our smartphones. I usually do not like smartphone ordering because the menu is hard to see, but here they had a paper menu as well, so everyone could chat and order together!

In the middle of Atami, I visited Toriichi Atami Honten because I wanted to have Kara-age while drinking. The clean, modern interior is comfortable, and the chairs are comfortable too. The Kara-age is large, and it is about JPY550 for 2 pieces. You can also choose from several flavors, which makes it hard to resist for Kara-age lovers. I had a great night with a highball and Kara-age. It was a great meal.

I visited because I was in the mood for yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). Every dish served at Toriichi is quite large, so you might wonder if you can finish it, but it is so good that there is no problem. If you cannot finish everything, you can also take it home.

I heard the oden (Japanese stew) was good, and since I wanted to enjoy plenty of drinks, I chose the All you can drink course. There was a wide variety of dishes, and the oden was as delicious as expected. As the weather gets colder, oden really hits the spot.
