Kitakyushu City [Kokura Area] Yakitori!

Yakitori Asahina

About a 5-minute walk from Kokura Station, Yakitori Asahina in Kitakyushu is a yakitori restaurant by reservation only where you can enjoy yakitori made with Kyoto Takasaka-dori (Kyoto Takasaka chicken).

The interior has a Japanese feel and is a cozy, compact space centered around counter seating, making it comfortable and easy to enjoy dinner without feeling stiff.

At the two-part dinner service, you can enjoy rare Kyoto Takasaka-dori (Kyoto Takasaka chicken) in a five-course lineup of sashi (lightly seared chicken sashimi style), skewers, side dishes, a finishing dish, and dessert.

The sasami (chicken tenderloin) is cooked with perfect heat, and each skewer can be enjoyed in three ways: with plum, wasabi, or wrapped in nori.

This is the tori soboro gohan (minced chicken rice bowl) served to finish the meal.

The soboro, with its nice charcoal aroma, is packed with rich chicken flavor, and when you break the egg yolk, it adds a mellow richness that makes it so good you'll want another serving. It also comes with chicken soup as a set, making it very satisfying.

This well-known restaurant lets you enjoy rare cuts, skewers cooked with careful heat control, and luxurious à la carte dishes. The way they handle the ingredients and bring out their aroma is excellent, making it a must-visit for yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) lovers.

Of course the skewers are great, but they also serve small dishes in between. Every item is carefully made and insanely good. The nama-tsukune (fresh chicken meatball) was a shock! The skewers bring out the best of Kosaka-dori (Kosaka chicken)! At this price, you can get quite full and leave Manzoku! To finish, the freshly cooked ginger rice completely got me. So good lol.

Torizan

Torizan is a yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) restaurant located in a shopping street in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu, about a 1-minute walk from Kokura Station.

The compact interior is clean and comfortable. There are counter and table seats, and it is said to be always lively with many customers.

The carefully grilled torikawa (chicken skin) is said to have a crisp, fragrant surface and a juicy bite, so good that you will want another serving.

It comes in two seasonings, salt and tare (sweet soy-based sauce), and both are perfect snacks to go with beer.

The butabara (pork belly), cooked with perfect heat control, has its excess fat rendered out and is packed with good flavor.

It comes in a large cut, so it is very satisfying to eat. Eating it together with the cabbage on the side freshens up the palate.

It’s a small restaurant in the basement. Great value for money! The food is great too! Not just the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), but every skewer dish was delicious. If you don’t have a reservation, I think it’s pretty hard to get in! The service also feels very good.

しばきち

The negima (chicken and scallion skewer) is generously sized, and the chicken is nice and plump. The skin is grilled until crisp, which is really nice. The smoked quail egg skewer is a favorite, and I always end up eating more than one. All the other skewers are tasty too, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them.

Raizu

At Raizu in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City, you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) carefully cooked over Tosa binchotan (high-grade Japanese charcoal).

Located on the second floor of a building, the restaurant has a small, hideaway-like interior with counter seating and one table. It has a calm atmosphere, so you can relax and take your time.

They serve yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made with fresh branded chicken prepared the same morning.

They are particular about both the charcoal and the ingredients, and they change the grilling method for each cut, which is part of the appeal because you can enjoy each one at its best. The pictured Kisaki Jidori (local chicken breed) furisode (shoulder meat) is said to have a nice springy texture while staying moist.

The tsukune (chicken meatball skewer) served in the "6 Grilled Items Set".

This slender style tsukune is cooked with excellent precision, letting you fully enjoy the natural flavor of Kisa Kiriji (premium jidori chicken) and the sweetness of its high quality fat in a single skewer. The crunchy texture of the nankotsu (cartilage) adds a nice accent.

ティノ11

Each skewer came with what felt like two pieces, but don’t underestimate them—the meat was thick and juicy, the salt was perfectly balanced, and the sauce stayed nicely in the background without getting in the way of the ingredients. Even the nozucchini (wild zucchini) was juicy inside, and the ginnan (ginkgo nuts) were not soft in the middle but had a nice crisp bite. From the very first skewer to the extra aka nasu (red eggplant) and pork belly I added at the end, I was Manzoku the whole time.

The interior is centered around counter seating, and we used a Private room. This area has many yakitori restaurants, and I think the level is generally high, but this place is no exception—the yakitori was excellent, the carefully prepared dishes were great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I will visit again.

虎蘭

The yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) and osashimi (sliced raw fish) looked very good. They also had a wide range of other specialties. I did not order the osashimi this time, but since they were grilling all kinds of things over charcoal right in front of me, I ordered the yakitori. The yakitori was delicious. Personally, I liked the nikudofu (meat and tofu stew)-like dish the best. I think they also have a wide selection of drinks. The staff bring a lot of energy to the place, so I would recommend it.

I definitely wanted to eat squid, so I ordered it first. It was not quite as translucent as I had hoped, but I still enjoyed it. For the skewers, I simply pointed to the ones in front of me to order. They had plenty of meat and tasted great.

Every dish in the course, from the Appetizers to the final course, was delicious, and each one was seasoned to pair well with the drinks. What stood out most was the rice at the end of the meal. It was cooked right at the table, so I was glad to enjoy it freshly made and piping hot.

The course includes 6 kinds of Appetizers, chilled chawanmushi (savory egg custard), sashimi assortment, salad, charcoal grilled jidori (local chicken), seasonal vegetable tempura, shabu-shabu, To finish somen noodles, and sherbet. The sashimi was also delicious, and the chawanmushi was nice too. It was my first time having somen noodles To finish shabu-shabu, but they went well with the dashi broth, and the noodles had a good bite, so they were quite tasty.

The restaurant’s signature yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) is served in two styles: the classic grilled style and Teppan-yaki.

A skewer cooked on the Teppan-yaki grill turns out crisp on the outside and juicy inside, giving it a different taste from regular yakitori.

This is the popular menu item, "Pork Belly."

Each skewer is made by carefully threading large cut pieces of pork, letting you enjoy the rich flavor of the pork and the sweetness of its fat. It is also satisfyingly filling, with a high level of satisfaction.

はまはま0421

Honestly, it was insanely good. The size of the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), the temperature, the juiciness, and even how quickly it was served were all perfect. I never expected to find yakitori this good in Kokura (a district in Kitakyushu). The jidori (free-range chicken) tataki (lightly seared chicken) was also outstanding, so if you want to eat chicken, this place has you covered. It was fantastic.

おいしいの見つけ隊

The pork belly is unbelievably good!! As someone from Fukuoka Prefecture, I do not go to yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) places that often, but I think the pork belly here is the best. It is nice and filling too. The cheese sanmi-age (three-flavor deep-fried dish) also comes wrapped in shiso (perilla leaf), and I really like this menu item for its originality.

For now, we ordered the standard items: charcoal grilled thigh and a 7-item assortment. The skewers were long and filling, easy on the wallet, and tasty. No complaints. This time, we also ordered some A la carte items. The shrimp, sausage, tsukune (chicken meatball), and liver were all good. The grilled rice ball was as huge as ever... motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot) is a menu item I recommend if you come to Sumiyaki Goya in winter.

I went there at night with a friend because we were craving yakitori (grilled chicken skewers). The yakitori was great of course, and the Chicken sashimi (served raw) was outstanding!✨You can eat it with 3 kinds of sauce, so you never get tired of it. For the yakitori, I recommend the chicken skin and tsukune (chicken meatball skewers). They also had my favorite natural wine, and I couldn’t help drinking more.

Sumiya Nakamura

Sumiya Nakamura in Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City, is a well-known restaurant where you can enjoy yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) made with fresh chicken and dishes made with Agu-buta (Okinawan Agu pork).

Inside, the restaurant offers a cozy space with a calm atmosphere. The table seating is spaced comfortably, making it a good choice for groups to enjoy a meal together.

The yakitori, known for being really good, is said to be carefully skewered one by one using exceptionally fresh chicken.

The "Agu buta bara (Agu pork belly)" in the photo is said to have just the right amount of salt, bringing out the rich flavor of its high quality fat. Besides salt, it also comes with yuzu miso seasoning, so you can enjoy comparing the two.

The "tebasaki (chicken wings)" have skin crisped up until golden and fragrant, then coated in a sweet-savory sauce, making them perfect not only with white rice but also as a snack to go with drinks.

Squeezing the citrus served on the side adds a fresh tang, which makes your mouth feel refreshed.

The quality of the yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) was very high, and every item was so good it changed my idea of what yakitori could be, which made the meal a lot of fun! There were also many unusual side dishes, and there were other things I still wanted to try, so I’d love to come back again.

No matter what you eat, it is genuinely good with nothing to complain about. Not only the skewers but also the a la carte dishes are tasty. It is also easy on the wallet. They also offer courses.

Yakitori Toritake

Yakitori Toritake in Tobata Ward, Kitakyushu City, is a well-known restaurant serving authentic yakitori (grilled chicken skewers), with careful attention to the salt, sauce, and grilling.

The interior has a somewhat nostalgic feel and is spread across two floors. On the first floor, guests can casually enjoy dinner at table seating.

The popular item is the “Kushi to Kara-age no assortment,” which can be ordered from 2 servings.

It is an assortment of pork belly, chicken thigh, tsukune (chicken meatball), green pepper, and more, and it is very satisfying to eat. The chicken thigh and Heart are said to be plump and juicy thanks to the far-infrared effect of the charcoal fire.

The "tuna salad," packed with fresh lettuce, cucumber, and onions, is a popular palate cleanser.

It is said to be more filling than it looks and highly satisfying. There were also reviews saying it was nice that it was served about 5 minutes after ordering.

はしのした

The yakitori was reliably delicious as always, and another nice point was how quickly it was served! I usually go for shochu, but on this day I ordered Niwa no Uguisu, a Japanese sake from Kurume. It had a rich, slightly sweet taste that paired very well with the yakitori. I got to enjoy great yakitori and seafood dishes too, and it made for a very Manzoku meal◎

The value for money was great, and the staff were kind, which helped me recover from the fatigue of training. The skewers were tasty, and the Kara-age was juicy and delicious.
