Bel Amer Kyoto Bettei

Bel Amer Kyoto Bettei is a cafe run by a chocolate specialty shop, about a 5-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma Line. The interior makes use of a traditional machiya (Kyoto townhouse) with plenty of charm.

On the first floor, they sell carefully selected chocolates and baked sweets, while the second floor is a cafe space open as a "chocolat bar."

They offer chocolate, alcoholic drinks, coffee, tea, seasonal assiette dessert (plated dessert), and a popular afternoon tea set.

They also have food items such as galettes and Bolognese, so you can enjoy a light meal as well.

The photo shows the “fondant chocolat ~smoked~.” The moment it is brought to the table, a gentle smoky aroma rises up, making this an original dessert you can only enjoy here.

Chocolate flows out from the moist cake, giving it a rich and full flavor.

This is a Special chocolate shop where you can enjoy high quality chocolate in a calm atmosphere that feels very Kyoto-like. The beautiful chocolates, which change with the seasons, are delicate in both appearance and flavor, and every item makes a great gift to bring along. The attentive service is pleasant too, making this a charming chocolate specialty shop you'll want to stop by again and again.

It was quiet, calm, and very comfortable. It looked very cute, and it tasted great too. The jelly at the bottom was especially delicious! The other parfaits also looked cute and tasty, so I’d like to go again.

Fuji Tora

Fuji Tora, about a 2-minute walk along Kawabata-dori from Keihan Railway’s Gion-Shijo Station, is an atmospheric cafe set in a renovated 100-year-old kominka (traditional Japanese house).

From inside, you can look out onto the inner garden and spend a relaxing time while enjoying the charm unique to a Kyoto machiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse).

The “seiro-mushi (steamed in a bamboo steamer)” course, made with high quality ingredients such as seasonal vegetables and Kyoto pork, is popular.

Using a seiro (bamboo steamer) and slowly cooking with steam gives the ingredients a tender finish and brings out their natural flavor. Another highlight is being able to enjoy different flavors with gochujang mayonnaise and yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper paste).

A popular dessert is the monaka (crisp wafer filled sweet). You can enjoy the well-balanced sweetness of salted anko (red bean paste) and fresh cream, along with the crisp texture of the monaka.

For sweets, they also offer the omanju set and the Fuji Tora parfait.

Steamed basket lunch♪ It had that Kyoto feel, so I made a reservation and was really looking forward to it. The food came quickly, and you can tell every detail was carefully thought out. It was so good! The Kyoto Pork shabu-shabu had wonderful rich fat. The vegetables were also delicious, and steaming really brought out the natural flavor of the ingredients. The takikomi gohan (seasoned rice cooked with ingredients) was tasty too, and maybe because it was a steamed meal, I felt like my metabolism got a boost.

A restaurant in Gion serving seiro-mushi (steamed dishes in bamboo baskets). The entrance is not very wide, but the restaurant is long and narrow, with tatami seating in the back, giving it a very nice atmosphere. The vegetable seiro, the pork seiro, and even the rice seiro were all very good. This is a place I would definitely like to visit again.

Saryo Kyoto Yoshitsugu

Saryo Kyoto Yoshitsugu is a cafe about a 3-minute walk from Shijo Station on the Tozai and Karasuma subway lines, set in a kyo-machiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse) built in 1877.

Rather than being renovated in a modern style, it still has an appearance that carries on the charm of Kyoto today. A kura (traditional storehouse) remains in the back of the interior, and between it and the main house spreads a garden where you can feel the changing seasons.

You can enjoy authentic matcha made with Uji-cha (Uji tea) from Kyoto Prefecture.

The sweets selection is also extensive, including "Hon Warabi Mochi" made with 100% hon-warabi-ko (bracken starch), all crafted by skilled artisans. They also use Kyo-yaki (Kyoto pottery) tea bowls, showing care even in the choice of tableware.

The "Hana-an Cake" is a gorgeous sweet topped with plenty of hana-an (flower bean paste), made by blending Otebo-mame (large white beans) from Hokkaido with white bean paste.

Inside is a shortcake, with the gentle sweetness of the bean paste adding just the right accent. It is said to be a dessert that lets you enjoy the best of both Japanese and Western styles.

白米とお味噌汁

I was drawn to the cute hanaan cake (flower-shaped bean paste cake) here, so I made a reservation and visited. Maybe because of the time of my reservation, it was Sunday but the shop was not too crowded, and it was easy to spend time there even on my own. This time the hanaan was a sunflower, but the other designs like cherry blossoms and cosmos are all beautiful and lovely too, so I would like to visit in different seasons as well.

When I went to Kyoto, I stopped by here for a break. I had tea and dango (sweet rice dumplings). Both were very good, and they also served yatsuhashi senbei (cinnamon rice crackers) on the house. It did not have a noisy atmosphere, and the shop had a lot of charm. The food was delicious. Thank you very much.

The spacious floor gets soft light through the windows, giving it a very open feel. There are also many sofa seats, so you can relax and unwind.

Homemade bread and pizza made from scratch from the dough, along with Homemade pasta lasagna, are popular. There are always 15 or more kinds of bread, and six kinds of pizza ranging from classics to more unusual options.

The “lasagna” is made entirely in-house, from the pasta to the sauce, and offers the kind of flavor you only get from something Homemade.

The dessert menu offers a wide range of options, including ice cream and French toast. One of the most popular choices is the "cake set," with 6〜8 kinds of daily cakes always available.

Part of the fun is choosing from that day’s lineup, which may include New York cheesecake and gateau chocolat.

I had lunch with a friend. There were lots of lunch menu options, and lunch comes with homemade bread you can get refills on and a drink. A great deal♡I chose the lasagna lunch◡̎✧The lasagna might take a little longer than the other menu items, but it came piping hot and was delicious! The restaurant was very spacious and comfortable.

I can't believe there is such a stylish place in Kawaramachi (a district in Kyoto)! I was a little shocked that I had been walking right past it without noticing!! The lunch set came with bread, and you could even get refills! The meat in the pasta was like kakuni (braised pork belly), super tender and really tasty.

The "Greek Yogurt" is packed with fruit and nutrition. It is colorful too, making it a dish you will not get tired of eating.

I was looking for lunch in Kyoto and happened to find this place. I pass by here all the time, but I had no idea there was such a cute shop down this alley. We had the croissant topped with cheesecake and the pistachio croissant cut into pieces to share, and it was just the right amount.

The popular Breakfast item, the "soufflé omelet," comes packed with plenty of vegetables. It is soft and creamy inside, with cheese spilling out from the center.

The hearty set also gets good reviews for being loaded with extras, including a salad served with prosciutto and grapefruit, carrot and purple cabbage rapee, and bread.

よく寝てよく食べる

Because it is on a slightly tucked-away street from Kawaramachi Station, it felt like a bit of a hidden gem, and I was able to spend a pretty relaxed time there. The second floor is the eat-in space, but there does not seem to be an elevator, so people with strollers or travelers may want to be careful. It is a calm, relaxing space where you can enjoy tasty crepes and take your time, so I would like to visit again.

Source:よく寝てよく食べる's review

The freshly made crepes were really delicious! I’d love to try the other flavors too, so I’ll definitely be coming back!! They also served the coffee in a cute way, which really lifted my mood! The atmosphere of the shop was nice too, and I was able to spend a lovely, relaxing time there.

This restaurant is in Shijo Kawaramachi. The burgers used carefully selected ingredients. They used local vegetables and fermented foods. There are all kinds of burgers here, but as someone who loves genmai (brown rice), I thought the chewy nekase genmai (aged brown rice) bun was great, and the Yakiniku inside was also incredibly tasty. Each ingredient really stood out, and it had a gentle, comforting flavor. The tartar sauce was also delicious‼️♪Next time, I want to try the punchy Jojukusei Grass-Fed Beef GOOD Burger ✌️

You can pair your pasta with Appetizers, dessert, and more to create a course that suits your taste. The gelato I ordered for dessert this time was rich and very satisfying.

This was my first time seeing this kind of pasta♪ The springy, extra chewy pasta held the Genovese sauce really well, and it was so tasty (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) It was a very satisfying Manzoku pasta dish with plenty of plump shrimp! The open cafe is right along the passage just past the entrance, and the green and white color scheme makes the interior look lovely. The staff were wonderful too, making this a really nice cafe.

This time, I fell in love at first sight when I saw the signboard. I ordered a blue latte and a yellow peach pie. The vivid blue leaf was beautiful, and the only drawback was that I did not want to ruin it, so I could Nakanaka bring myself to take the first sip. They also pay attention to details with Valentino cups and saucers. The yellow peach pie was very juicy, with sweet yellow peaches and a crisp, fragrant pie crust that were a perfect match. It’s a very bright cafe, and you can see the cherry blossoms along the Takasegawa (Takase River) from the windows. I think the pancakes and drink were probably seasonal specials. The pancakes are substantial but still soft and airy, and they’re not too sweet, so you can keep eating them with ease. The drink has strawberry jelly and vanilla ice cream in it, creating a very pretty pink and white gradient.

Cafe Grand Marble Gion Chikara

Cafe Grand Marble Gion Chikara is a Kyoto-born Danish pastry specialty shop about a 5-minute walk from Keihan Gion-Shijo Station on the Keihan Main Line.

The first floor is a gift corner, and the second floor is a cafe space. Inside, there are large bentwood counter seats, table seats, and tatami raised seating areas.

They offer a full lineup of menu items and original sweets made with their popular marble Danish.

A classic favorite is to choose one slice from about seven kinds of marble Danish and enjoy it with a drink. Among them, the Nocha Mont Blanc is especially recommended for its rich taste.

The "ojifuku menu," where you can whisk your own matcha (powdered green tea) using a tea bowl and chasen (tea whisk), is easy to enjoy even for first timers while watching the instructional video.

For the tea sweets, you can choose your favorite marble Danish, and it has a great reputation for pairing perfectly with the rich flavored matcha.

こじおのグルメ

If you're pairing it with Danish pastry, matcha (green tea) is the way to go. Its nice bitterness and deep flavor go perfectly with the rich butter, creating a tea time that feels very Kyoto-like. It is fragrant with a clean finish, so it paired especially well with the sweet Danish pastry. This is a lovely cafe where you can enjoy freshly baked Danish pastry and spend a relaxing time.
