Echigo Shubo Hakkaisan Hamamatsucho Honten

Echigo Shubo Hakkaisan Hamamatsucho Honten, a 2-minute walk from JR Hamamatsucho Station, is an izakaya officially endorsed by the Japanese sake brand Hakkaisan.

The interior has a calm Japanese feel, and all 106 seats are in Private rooms with a sense of privacy.

Many reviews said you should not miss the "Today's Special assorted fresh fish selected by expert eyes," which pairs perfectly with alcohol.

Every sashimi (raw fish slices) is said to be fresh and nicely fatty, with a thick cut yet a melt-in-your-mouth texture.

The photo shows "Mochibuta no Harihari Dashi Shabu," a dish where you can fully enjoy Echigo mochi-buta (Echigo chewy pork), a Niigata brand pork.

The soup is well seasoned yet light, letting you enjoy the natural good taste of the ingredients themselves.

しおりの腹ぺこグルメ日記

As soon as you step inside, a calm space with the warm feel of Japanese style opens up, making you feel as if you have traveled to Niigata. What surprised me first was the luxurious setup of all Private room seating. It is a great point that you can relax and enjoy your meal and conversation without worrying about the people around you.

What impressed me most was the “Harihari Dashi Shabu”!! It came piled high with crisp vegetables, and the mochi-buta (pork) loin and belly were full of flavor. Paired with the gentle dashi broth, it felt like I could keep eating it forever

I first ordered the 5-skewer yakitori (grilled chicken skewers) assortment, and every one of them was fragrant and juicy! The negima (chicken and scallion skewer) was especially great. It went well with both beer and highballs!

First, enjoy the natural umami of the ingredients with katsuo-dashi (bonito stock), then move on to soy sauce, momiji-oroshi (grated daikon with chili), sesame oil, shiitake dashi soy sauce, and yuzu kosho (yuzu pepper paste). Each time one of the six sauces takes over, the thick, plump meat from Kuwana shows a different side. I quickly tucked into them while they were still piping hot, and just washing them down with a draft beer topped with creamy foam made the fatigue of the day melt away.
