Recommended izakaya in Shizuoka Prefecture [Numazu and Izu Peninsula Area]

Rinkairyō Shinkai Shokujidokoro is an izakaya next to Izu-Kogen Station on the resort railway of the Izu Kyuko Line, on the eastern side of the Izu Peninsula. It is located in the shopping mall Yamamo Plaza.
Run directly by a wholesale trader at Ito Fish Market, the restaurant serves fresh seafood from the waters near Izu and house-made dried fish.
Photograph:Mt Roch
While many people come here for the food, you can also use it as a hidden gem izakaya where you can drink while enjoying seafood dishes.
In addition to popular Japanese sake from around Japan, they also stock Japanese sake brewed in Shizuoka Prefecture. There is also a tasting set, so you can enjoy 3 kinds little by little.

Izu’s specialty kinmedai (golden eye snapper) can be enjoyed as sashimi, and you can also try it here simmered in a soy sauce based broth, which brings out its flaky texture.
The popular dish is the “Kinme Aburi Rice bowl,” made by brushing the skin of the kinmedai with the restaurant’s special soy sauce and lightly searing it. It lets you enjoy the fragrant aroma and the rich, savory fat of kinmedai.

I had the kinmedai (golden eye snapper) and shirasu (whitebait) Rice bowl, and the kaisen zenbu nose Rice bowl. This shop is at Izu-Kogen Station. They have spiny lobster, abalone, and all kinds of seafood. The kinmedai was plump and delicious. The kaisen zenbu nose had kinmedai, uni (sea urchin), shrimp, abalone, tuna, bonito, and pretty much every kind of seafood on top. It was incredibly delicious. I highly recommend it.

I ordered a kinmedai (golden eye snapper) aburi Rice bowl as the main dish, along with shirasu (whitebait) with grated daikon and sakura ebi (tiny pink shrimp) satsuma-age (fried fish cake). They also had a tasting set called a comparison of 3 kinds of Shizuoka local sake, and I chose two dry ones (Shosetsu, ?) and Jogasaki. The aburi Rice bowl had a texture and flavor I had never tried before, and I really enjoyed it. It paired perfectly with the Shizuoka local sake, and I was able to spend a very pleasant time.

Located in front of the ropeway boarding area at Atami Port and Korakuen Station, the seafood restaurant Kimi no Hamayaki is directly run by a shop that also operates fishing boats.
The open space makes it easy to use like an izakaya (Japanese pub). It is open from daytime, and dinner service is by reservation only.

The main menu item is hamayaki (seaside-style grilled shellfish), where fresh shellfish are grilled in a bold style. The staff grills them on a special grill, and many people apparently stop by, drawn in by the Fresh Scent of the Ocean.
This simple dish grills shellfish such as sazae (turban shell) and hotate (scallop) with just a small drizzle of soy sauce, letting you really taste the shellfish’s rich umami.
Photograph:R社長
They also offer a wide selection of kaisendon (seafood Rice bowl) topped with fresh sashimi over rice. The “Umi Don” in the photo lets you enjoy mostly local fish, along with seasonal varieties available only at that time.
It is perfect whether you want a quick drink while sightseeing or a filling meal.

A drink with hamayaki (grilled seafood)! Right in front of the Atami Ropeway, and the smell coming from the place was so good that we walked in without a second thought! The place was almost full and really lively. We ordered hamayaki and aji himono (dried horse mackerel). Everything was delicious, and the drinks kept flowing from the middle of the day♫

Starting with their signature hamayaki (grilled seafood), they offer a full lineup of seafood dishes made with plenty of fresh fish and shellfish, and you really can’t go wrong with anything you choose. It’s also great for a Quick Drink. Since I don’t eat much, I love that they have mini Rice bowls. The whole aji (horse mackerel) senbei is unbelievably good!

Shizuoka ranks among the top areas in Japan for maguro (tuna) landings. This place is popular for serving hon-maguro (bluefin tuna), often called the highest grade, and it has many positive reviews.
Even people who are crazy about maguro seem surprised by the strong umami flavor here.
Photograph:しゃちまるる
The menu also includes local Shizuoka specialties such as Shimizu motsu curry and Mishima croquettes.
The “Torobocchi no Kara-age” in the photo is another local specialty. This dish features mehikari (greeneye fish), a deep-sea fish landed at Numazu Port, fried until crisp, and is known for its tender flesh.

The staff were lively and pleasant, which got my hopes up. First, I ordered the limited quantity maguro (tuna) sashimi and a draft beer✨So good♥Next came the shirasu (whitebait) salad, aji (horse mackerel) fry, and young corn spring rolls. So good♥They also had my favorite Hoppy, so I ended up drinking a little too much... Then I added Mishima korokke (Mishima croquette) and motsuni (stewed offal)✨I ended up drinking even more (lol)

After work, a client invited me out for dinner. They took me to an izakaya (Japanese pub). I left the order up to Omakase. Motsu curry, hon-maguro (bluefin tuna) sashimi, and Mishima croquettes. Everything was great! The hon-maguro in particular was as good as you would expect from the real place. I also tried torobocchi Kara-age and deep-sea fish dishes for the first time. One of the best parts is getting to enjoy flavors you can only find in the area.

Speaking of Shizuoka, shirasu (whitebait) is famous. These are tiny young fish such as sardines. Boiled shirasu is eaten in many places, but being able to eat raw shirasu is something special to towns close to the sea.
The photo shows "nama-shirasu (raw whitebait)," which you can enjoy only for a few months of the year. It is also worth comparing it with boiled shirasu.
Photograph:risamic
The small, pink sakuraebi (cherry blossom shrimp) is also a local specialty landed in Suruga Bay. Depending on the season, you can even eat it raw, and if you have it as kakiage (mixed tempura fritter), coated in batter and deep-fried, you can enjoy it year-round.
This is a place where you can enjoy local drinks such as Japanese sake along with Shizuoka gourmet specialties as otsumami (small dishes to go with drinks).
matsu60877
Without a doubt, the one thing to get here is the nama-shirasu Rice bowl (raw whitebait rice bowl). It arrived about 5-6 minutes after ordering. With a bit of ginger soy sauce, you get that feeling of, wow, so this is the great taste of Suruga Bay. There were no off notes at all, and I fully enjoyed the delicious nama-shirasu Rice bowl. If I get the chance next time, I’d like to try the set with nama-shirasu and kamaage-shirasu (boiled whitebait).

I was able to have the kamaage shirasu (boiled whitebait) and bara-zushi Rice bowl. The toppings were salmon, hamachi (young yellowtail), tuna, and octopus, and half of it was covered with kamaage shirasu, with tamago (Japanese omelet), cucumber, and other ingredients packed in about two layers, so I was surprised by how much there was. I really enjoyed it. It was a great meal.

After entering the restaurant, the first thing I ordered was beer. The beer was cheap too, at about 300円!。It was proper beer, not happoshu (low-malt beer), and it tasted great! I ordered dishes like sashimi, gyoza, and Shizuoka oden (Shizuoka-style oden). Everything was delicious! For drinks, I mainly ordered the 100円 sours. I thought the alcohol was a little light, but I could drink plenty, and I was drunk by the end, so I think that was not a problem.

My friend lives in Atami, and when I came to visit, they recommended this restaurant, so we all went together. I was Surprising that the otoshi (small appetizer) was tai (sea bream) kama-yaki (grilled collar). It was very good. As expected, seafood in Atami is delicious. First, we had beer and ordered the food on the touch panel at the table. Once again, every dish lived up to expectations. First, I ordered the restaurant's specialty, the 5-skewer Hako-kushi assortment. I was drawn in by the price of 1 skewer for JPY90, but it had a unique texture, like fried yakitori chicken skin. It came with as many as 12 dumplings, so it felt very filling! It was a Manzoku meal.

Inside the kominka-style (traditional Japanese house-style) restaurant, guests take off their shoes before entering, and there are easy-to-relax-in Private room seats with Sunken kotatsu seating. It seems suitable for everyone from small groups to larger parties.

One nationally famous dish is Fujinomiya yakisoba (Fujinomiya-style fried noodles). It features firm steamed noodles stir-fried with nikukasu (pork back fat cracklings), then finished with iwashi no kezuribushi (shaved dried sardine flakes).
The yakisoba has a chewy, springy bite that also makes it filling, and it seems to go well with beer.
Photograph:pen E-P3
They have a varied menu with items like sashimi, yakitori, salads, and fried dishes.
If you are visiting with family or a group, the course menu is recommended. You can enjoy about 9 popular dishes, and it also comes with All you can drink.

There was time before the pre-event gathering set up by a friend in Fujinomiya, so the four of us who arrived early had a quick warm-up round.・Six kinds of kushiyaki (grilled skewers)・Fujinomiya yakisoba (Fujinomiya-style fried noodles)・Draft beer. The five of us shared everything and toasted our reunion with draft beer♫The varied kushiyaki were pretty good overall.

We enjoyed plenty of beer with the All you can drink option. The menu had lots to choose from, so we ordered different dishes from last time. Maybe because the otoshi (small appetizer) was a salad, there was no salad on the menu, so we ordered sliced onions instead. Personally, it was my first time having it topped with a raw egg, and it was good. The cabbage-yaki (griddled cabbage dish) was also ◯, and the geso-ten (fried squid legs) and chicken tempura were good too.

Kuimonoya Wan Gotemba Ten is the Gotemba branch of an izakaya chain with locations across Japan. It is near the Mount Fuji side exit of Gotemba Station.
The space is designed to evoke a kominka (traditional old Japanese house) from 100 years ago. You can take off your shoes and relax, and they also have many Private rooms with Sunken kotatsu seating, where you can stretch your legs out under the table.
Photograph:Kazurin2525
The "Wan" in the restaurant name "Kuimonoya Wan" is said to come from wan (a Japanese bowl). Another feature is that they use tableware that suits the kominka (traditional Japanese house)-style space.
You can also enjoy beer in glasses made from Mashikoyaki (Mashiko ware), a type of pottery produced in Tochigi Prefecture. They seem to keep the foam fine and smooth.
Photograph:Kazurin2525
You can enjoy a wide range of dishes, including menu items that put a twist on classic washoku (Japanese cuisine).
If you're dining with a group, the Hot Pot dishes are also recommended. There are fish Hot Pot and meat Hot Pot options, and they say the broth is good and comes with plenty of vegetables.
Kazurin2525
It is close to the station too, so the location is perfect! This time, we skipped the course and ordered à la carte instead. We also did not add All you can drink and ate what we liked. The garlic fried edamame, and as for the Hot Pot, we chose the beef Hot Pot, and it had a light salty flavor that was really tasty!

I went with oden (Japanese hot pot items simmered in broth) as the main dish. The dashi flavor really came through, and it was very good. I ended up having three glasses of Hoppy just with the oden. The prices were reasonable, and the place I was staying was a 1-minute walk away. It was a perfect time.

Recommended izakaya in Shizuoka Prefecture [Shizuoka City (Shizuoka / Shimizu) Area]

Ushinari Yakiniku is a Yakiniku restaurant on the second floor of a building, about a 6-minute walk from the north exit of Shizuoka Station. They also offer many dishes that go well as snacks with drinks, making it easy to use in an izakaya-style way.
They have seats where you can grill and enjoy the meat yourselves on a tabletop grill, as well as Special seats where the chef grills it right in front of you.

They Specially select Wagyu with rich marbling and strong umami, centered on Manyo-gyu (Manyo beef) raised in Tottori Prefecture.
They also put thought into how the meat is enjoyed, with options like a spicy miso sauce and a sauce blended with mascarpone cheese, which gets good reviews as well.
Photograph:tmtm710
They also pay close attention to the alcohol that pairs well with the meat, with a lineup that includes Japanese sake, gin, and beer brewed in Shizuoka Prefecture. They also seem to offer craft beer with a nice natural bitterness and aroma.
The staff provide pleasant service, and the place is also recommended for special occasions.
焼肉大好き320
A friend went to eat there and gave it a good review, so I visited. It was my first time trying Manyo-gyu (Manyo beef), and it was seriously good, with a nice sweetness too. It’s something you should try at least once. The service was VERY GOOD. Manyo-gyu was VERY GOOD. The salad presentation was beautiful. I recommend this place for celebrations.

There were different ways to enjoy each cut of meat. They recommend what to pair with each cut as it is served, such as garlic soy sauce, fresh pepper, ponzu sauce + mascarpone, or tare sauce. The tenderness really showed the quality you would expect from a high end butcher. It was excellent meat with plenty of rich flavor.

Uchoten is an izakaya (Japanese pub) on Ryogaecho-dori, a busy downtown street in central Shizuoka City. It stays open from evening until late at night, so it also works well for a second stop.
There are more than 100 seats in total inside, including spacious Sunken kotatsu seating in a tatami room. There is also table seating that makes it easy to drop in casually.
Photograph:クミコ0909
You can enjoy oden such as daikon radish and konnyaku (yam cake) simmered in a Shizuoka style dashi broth, as well as dishes like kuro hanpen fry (fried sardine fish cake) made with sardines.
One of the house specialties is the “3 Sacred Treasures of Potato Salad.” This potato salad is shaped into round dumpling-like balls, and the highlight is that you can compare and enjoy three different flavors.

They offer a wide selection of popular Japanese sake made by breweries in Shizuoka Prefecture, along with many Japanese sake labels that are popular across Japan.
The food includes many dishes with flavors that pair well with alcohol, and they also have a wide range of drinks such as wine, whisky, and shochu.
園1001
When you step inside, the staff greet you with lots of energy. Every dish is excellent, from the fresh fish sashimi to the Kara-age, and they go perfectly with drinks. The atmosphere inside is comfortable, and the service from the staff is also wonderful!!I think this is a great place for drinks with friends or family♪I also look forward to the menu that changes with the seasons.

こんにゃくZ
We were shown to Sunken kotatsu seating and quickly looked over the menu, and the first thing that surprised us most was the number of Japanese sake options! They even had hard-to-source bottles like Denshu and Jikon, two Japanese sake labels Japan is proud of, and I was amazed (゜ロ゜) If you love Japanese sake, you should definitely go! lol. They had Sara, which I personally love, so that is what I ordered.

Motsu no Gen-chan Honten is a Yakiniku izakaya located under the elevated tracks on the west side of Shizuoka Station, run by a popular Yakiniku restaurant that has been serving Shizuoka for more than 60 years.
It also sounds like part of the fun is grilling the food yourself over a shichirin (traditional clay charcoal grill) fueled by charcoal. The place has an easygoing atmosphere that makes it comfortable for solo diners and groups alike.
Photograph:前田貴広
The menu centers on Wagyu short rib, tongue, and fresh Horumon. You can also enjoy A5-rank Wagyu as Yakiniku.
When grilled on a shichirin (small charcoal grill), the meat takes on a nice smoky aroma from the charcoal fire, with the surface turning crisp while locking in the flavor.
The specialties are "tecchan (beef large intestine)" and "shio mino (salted Mountain chain tripe)". Tecchan is beef large intestine, and mino is meat from the cow's largest stomach.
They cut it into easy-to-eat pieces and season it well, so once it is grilled you can enjoy it as is.
It is said to have a flavor that goes well with alcohol.

As expected from the Kyoshoen Group, the meat is high quality. Their specialty, tetchan (beef large intestine), is excellent. The Outside skirt and tongue are also tasty. I like that they grill it over charcoal. I’m glad someone told me about this great place.

The signature salted Mountain chain tripe is a must. With a one of a kind cutting style, it looks almost like chicken breast or tenderloin. The signature tetchan (beef large intestine) covered with a mountain of chili peppers is also a must. Unlike how it looks, the fat matches it well when grilled. I ordered another serving! I also really enjoyed the premium Outside skirt.

“Kanzen Koshitsu Izakaya Kushiyaki Moga_Ru Shizuoka Ekimae Ten” is an izakaya that has people talking because you can enjoy Fukuoka Prefecture’s famous dishes while staying in Shizuoka. It is located about a 3-minute walk from the north exit of Shizuoka Station, along Miyuki-dori in front of the station.
The spacious interior has about 90 seats in total, and they also have Private rooms available for 2 people or more.

Their specialty is kushiyaki (grilled skewers) made by wrapping pork around a variety of vegetables and searing them over charcoal. Each skewer is carefully grilled one by one, so you can enjoy a range of flavors.
You can also change up the taste with Japanese spices like yuzu shichimi (yuzu seven spice) and kuro-iri shichimi (black roasted seven spice).

Hakata motsu-nabe (Hakata-style Horumon Hot Pot) is made by simmering fresh Horumon, garlic chives, and other ingredients in a soy sauce or salt-based broth. Many people seem to enjoy Banquet-style group meals while gathered around the Hot Pot.
Both the food and drink menus offer a wide selection, and reviews also say the cheerful service from the staff makes the place feel comfortable and welcoming.
酔いどれヒゲおじさん
Lettuce pork rolls, plus a generous selection of 12 kinds! They are grilled properly over charcoal. The juicy meat rolls with a nice charcoal touch are all good, including the standard okra, lettuce, and tomato pork rolls, but the yamaimo (Japanese mountain yam) and shiso (perilla) pork roll has a crisp, fresh taste and is especially tasty. They also provide kitchen scissors and a skewer remover, so it’s great that two people can share one skewer and try lots of different kinds.

かわぽんちゃん
Today I had a farewell party for a junior colleague from work and went drinking at Moga. We all gathered around motsu-nabe (offal Hot Pot) and dug into kushiyaki (grilled skewers) and more. The Hot Pot was motsu-nabe. The vegetables cooked bubbling hot in the pot were the best! The texture and fat of the motsu were also great! The chilled Japanese sake went down easy, and I really enjoyed the ramen to finish. It was a great meal.

KUSHIEMON Shizuoka Honten is an izakaya (Japanese pub) located about a 7-minute walk from the north exit of Shizuoka Station, near Aoba Park.
It is on the second floor of a building, and they also have counter seats overlooking the park through the windows. They also offer two-person sofa seats and stylish Private rooms.

The main menu features fried and grilled items served on skewers. As shown in the photo, they also offer many skewer dishes that look fun to enjoy with your eyes.
Since skewer dishes are eaten by holding the skewer, they are easy to pick up and eat even while enjoying conversation.

The “obanzai (Japanese home-style side dishes) 5-item assortment,” which changes depending on the day, is also popular. Obanzai refers to everyday home cooking.
For drinks, the entertaining “fruit sour” is also well received. It uses plenty of fruit, and the glassware is said to have an original touch as well.
蛸ちゃんガチ勢
The food was delicious, and although we chose a course meal, the pace of service was just right, so we could enjoy it without ever feeling rushed. They use a system where you write your drink order on a note and hand it over, but they were also flexible enough to take orders verbally, and the service felt warm and pleasant.

This izakaya focuses on kushiage (deep-fried skewers), kushikatsu (breaded deep-fried skewers), and kushiyaki (grilled skewers). The skewers are so good that the drinks go down easy. This time, the recommendation is obanzai (Kyoto-style small dishes). The head chef has put together a menu of small plates that are unique to an izakaya, letting you enjoy everything from meat to vegetables. The kamameshi (iron pot rice) is cooked right on your table, so you can wait for it there and enjoy it hot and freshly made.
